I have always wanted to come here and it exceeded my expectations. Bad for the locals, but great for us, Petra itself was very quiet and has been cleared of stalls outside the Treasury. So glad we had our guides, it made it so much more interesting to have everything pointed out and with historical context. 5 stars every time!

Too expensive for tourists. While it is 1 dinar for locals, it is 50 dinars for tourists. Moreover, if you want to stay in Petra bynight, there is an extra fee of 17 dinars. It takes about 2-3 hours to walk inside, you should definitely have a hat, sunscreen and plenty of water with you. They need to remove the camels from the treasury building immediately. If you want to get beautiful angles for the treasury building, unfortunately you have to deal with people asking for tips. Although they received 50 dinars, no contribution to the historical structure or ease of travel was provided. There is no descriptive information, no descriptions of the places are written. Information is insufficient, but the historical texture is magnificent. Business improvement definitely needs to be made

Visited in winter, and had about a 4 hour window in the cold to get in before rain and sleet. Was perfect hiking weather for me, but bring a hat, gloves, and a good jacket! Breathtaking hike, and they have golf carts for mobility impaired in and out in addition to horses. The hike to the viewpoint above the Treasury was closed, probably to slick in the rain.

A must stop for tickets to enter ancient Petra, the airy Visitor Center is the gateway for adventuresome explorers. The site of Petra, being an ancient city, is sprawling, storied archeological site, and the visitor center instantly orients first-time visitors via detailed information and maps. It’s a must stop on your way to an unforgettable day.

Definitely worth a visit. It's not close to anything but very beautiful. Get there before 9am and go in the off season, otherwise it's hot and very crowded. Look for a guide when you arrive, they know all the places.

Amazing visit to Petra. A truly magical place and worth the visit.
We got there mid afternoon and it was surprisingly quiet. The walk requires a decent level of fitness and appropriate footwear. It was beautiful, the scenery and views are breathtaking.
It was hot so bring water.
There is a cafe and toilet by the treasury.
The people are very friendly.
Despite the issues in the region, we felt perfectly safe as female travellers.
Work with your hotel, they will advise you and look after you. Our hotel (Anbat Midtown) were amazing at working out the best route for us and what to look for and a shuttle service to the visitor centre.
Purchase the Jordan pass for free visa and entry to Petra. Much cheaper that way.
Highly recommend Petra, don’t be put off by issues in the wider area. It really is safe and the locals genuinely care that you have a great time.

My visit to Petra visitor Centre was spectacular. The rich historic site is something you must experience if you ever visit Jordan. In a little over three hours we only got as far as the theatre, so, I advice you make out more time so you can see more things. Be careful with the people claiming to be 'tour guides'...they just want to rip you off. If you must use one, use the official ones at the payment point.
A one day pass costs 50 Jordanian Dinars (approximately 65 USD), but totally worth every single dinar. The guys with the horses told us the horse ride was part of our package but insisted on a 'tip' at the end of the ride.....
All In all, it was a worthwhile experience.

Truly, Petra is the new wonder of the world, it was worth visiting. We had previously purchased the Jordan pass electronically in Armenia and visited Petra without any queues or obstacles. In Petra, we spent a separate amount for our entertainment, in particular, we were grateful to the Bedouin Ali who was there, who very respectfully accompanied us to the platform for special photo sessions.

It is not enough to say that Petra is beautiful! We were recommended to start from the Monastery. You have to take the FREE BUS up to Little Petra and then you take another car for 5JD to the starting point to the Monastery. It is a 40-50 minutes hike. In this way, you will visit the city from the Monastery to the main entrance and it’s totally worth it.

Petra trip was amazing. It is a must to visit for anyone visiting Jordan.
The staff at the visitor center and at the ancient site were polite, professionals and well trained.
Job well done for tourism board in Jordan for all the of the infrastructure improvements.
One little thing to consider is to add more public bathrooms were from the beginning of the Siq and walking right toward the theater there were only one public washrooms and the doors were locked!!!.
Other than this it was amazing 👏

Beautiful scenes of historical places such as the man-made building. Though a bit hot at summer time so would recommend coming late at night. But overall fantastic experience would recommend.

Absolutely amazing ancient historical site to visit. So spectacular. It takes around 2 hours and I’d really recommend arranging a private tour beforehand. The tour guide was so well informed, although I have to say if you are not able to climb steep hilly mountain levels, might be wise to sightsee at your own pace. It’s really quite energetic on foot. One thing to remember is wearing suitable walking shoes or practical trainers for the long walking steps, as there is uneven ground and deep sand further along. I wouldn’t say open toe sandals or flip-flops are suitable.
Of course the elderly or infirm can join in the Wonders as there are buggies or cars for transport.
There’s lots of places along the way to get refreshments, and also places to use bathroom WCs. Places are aplenty for souvenirs and you can even buy a Bedouin scarf for a traditional feel to the tour at the start.
I recommend getting a Jordan Tours Pass directly from the Consulate before travelling. It was 70JD for 1 day pass in Petra and allows many other sites to enjoy on the same pass.
By The Treasury (around half way in) you can take a camel ride for 5JD.
One last thing, it gets really hot here so a hat would be advisable.

Travelled to petra and like everyone say its worth visiting .
1. Parking is available easily and its free. Stay away from guides near parking just ignore their words for side entry etc etc and walk away
2. If you have jordan pass then just enter if you dont prefer walking as it take over 40 min to reach first point better to take cart 25 jod per person for 2 way travel time 10 min approx
3. The person who will drive ur cart just tip him like 2 or 3 jod as goodwill .
4. The petra famous shot 7 jod per person and guide will take u till the point or else u cannot go so no need get into argument

Amazing place. Great ancient architectures.
Be careful when riding with golf carts. Some of the drivers are harsh and insensitive to the riding comfort of the passengers. It's better to walk. Some of my friends also were victims of fees when having pictures of camels. Hope the tourism agency would correct these bad practices. Overall the place is very nice.

The photo is of Al-Khazneh or the 'Treasury' in Petra. Hand carved out of the sandstone wall using copper tools. It is a place to make offerings and later a tomb. In reality, it was never used for either. It is only several feet deep with a main chamber and 3 antichambers. The interior is plain and empty.

The visitor center is 2.2 miles or 3.5 kilometers back at the start.

Well kept- multiple languages available- you can walk Petra in 2 hours. You do not need a 2 day ticket. The Petra at night light show is ridiculous. Do not go. You sit in a dark with tea lights in paper bags listening to a wooden pipe being played. There is no “light show”. Good luck at getting WiFi to work out here.

Obviously absolutely incredible and an unmissable trip, there's a reason it's a wonder of the world. However what I'd really like to recommend is our tour guide Sofian, we found him through the official guides at the visitor centre. We'd already done the classic treasury/monastery routes so he took us along the Al Madras route and to the High Place of Sacrifice. He was incredibly incredibly knowledgeable about everything from history to archaeology to geology to plants and biology! There wasn't a single question he couldn't answer. On our third day he took us to Little Petra (which is also very much worth it!) and to some panoramic viewpoints. He was absolutely amazing and if I could give him 10 stars I would.
