SEEDS Iceland

SEEDS greetings from the northeastern farm in Icelandic highlands, Möðrudalur.

Our host Elisabet Kristjansdottir and Vilhjalmur Vernharðsson prepared variety of activities for us. So far we were fertilizing turf so turf roofs get more green and healthy. The idea of the traditional turf style was to allow people to experience an old-time atmosphere to some extent. And we are part of creating this experience.

Other than that we were fixing and painting hiking paths, collecting Icelandic moss for traditional soup of the farm, and of course doing some trash hunting. We collected more than 9 bags of trash.

Besides work we try to see and experience as much as we can. One evening we went to a beautiful canyon which is undoubtedly hidden gem of the area. There were no tourists, just us. We needed to cross river more that 6 times but it was worthy all those wet feet and clothes.

We are lucky to live in a place that is connected with nature. Food we eat is local and produced on the farm. If I can speak for myself I have never eaten better bread in my life. Plus we are surrounded by all kinds of animals. From dogs, cat, sheep, goats, rabbits, gooses. They even have baby arctic foxes. Its just pure beauty everywhere we look.”

It was an amazing experience traveling as a volunteer with seeds. I was able to have great experiences, fun and met all these incredible people.

For people who is thinking about doing a volunteer, if you have the oportunity, take it, but please keep in mind that this is a volunteer program and some volunteer activities are involved, especially in the workcamps, but are really simple task that im sure you'll enjoy.

Ooo, and last but not least please note that the meeting point is not the same place where you will live during the voluntary program

Seeds Workcamp was my first Experience with volunteering and it was just perfect. The people were very friendly and especially our campleader was such a nice human. In general, the organization was sometimes a bit short-term and questionable but that`s what made it very humane and enjoyable.
I would love to participate again in one of Seeds workcamps and therefore I definetly recomend it to everybody else!

Great association. I'm ready for the word camp 089. Great hiceland people. Yesterday all the people are help me with the heart. It was great. Thank you for all and for the future... :)

Ich war zwischen Mai und Juni für neun Tage als Freiwilliger in einem Camp mit Fokus auf Fotografie und Umwelt und kann es von ganzem Herzen empfehlen. Die Aktivitäten, seien es Umweltsäuberung, Fotografie oder Exkursion sind alle sehr abwechslungsreich und gut organisiert.
Die Unterkunft war sehr heimelig und die Zutaten für das selbstgemachte Essen sind von guter Qualität.

Sono stata volontaria SEEDS nel agosto 2022 e devo dire che mi sono trovata benissimo, sia con le attività proposte che con l’alloggio in cui stavamo.
Mi sono occupata del giardino botanico di Reykjavik e la casa in cui stavamo era praticamente all’interno del giardino, un sogno! Il prezzo per il vitto e alloggio è davvero irrisorio per il servizio proposto, contando che l’Islanda è carissima!
Consiglio vivamente a chiunque voglia fare volontariato in Islanda di rivolgersi direttamente a loro, è un team di giovani, con tanta voglia di fare e sani ideali. Mi hanno trasmesso la loro passione e i loro valori, pur essendo stata solo un mese con loro!
