Food was amazing, the best Ive tried in Reykjavik. Fish was very fresh and garnished deliciously. Also the fresh salad was beautifully seasoned. The waiter was kind to explain if certain dishes have gluten and excluded some elements of the dish i liked so it will be gluten free. Generally they do offer a lot gluten free options and they are marked on the menu. Also offered me complimentary gluten free bread. I would totally recommend!

My opinion is, this restaurant is the best in Reykjavik. The food I tried was delicious.
Never ate something like this. Especially seafood soup. Unbelievable taste. The arctic char was something extraordinary. It's worth the wait even one hour if you haven't reserved a table to have dinner at this restaurant.
The restaurant is not big, but it's very popular.
Delicious food. Cozy atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend.

Me and my husband weren’t so into lamb before this but at Old Iceland we had the best lamb ever. It was one of the best meal throughout the whole Iceland trip. Others than lamb, please try the mushroom soup. It is not the ordinary mushroom soup. Highly recommended!!

We had an amazing dinner here last night! We made reservations a few days prior and had no problem getting the time we wanted. Most of our party wanted the Mushroom soup which they said was delightful. We had the fresh salad and lamb with potatoes and beets. We also split the brownie dessert. Great experience!

We decided to try this restaurant on the recommendation of others. When we were there, we heard at least two other tables where people came back to the same restaurant on different days! Indeed it was worth the while. Definitely the best meal we had in Reykjavik. Everyone should come! Amazing cod cheeks, catch of the day and lamb ribeye. Even the dessert was amazing!

Old Iceland restaurant is super good! The food is amazing, flavorful, fancily served, and so rich in mixes of different flavors! Both my husband and I were pleasantly surprised by the combination of flavors and the tasty food. Prices are reasonable, but the conversion between Icelandic kroner and other currencies can be confusing. My husband ordered a 3-course meal and I ordered a main dish. I swapped the celeriac mash by vegetables. Both dishes were delicious! Staff is very friendly and kind. The place is very clean and the environment is inviting! I would be happy to go back for a different option!!!

Excellent meal. The lamb and fish stew were delicious. I would come bad and just have the dinner portion of the fish stew with some bread it was so good. Highly recommend for authentic Icelandic food and casual vibes.

Got a last-minute reservation after a very long day travelling from the UK and then exploring the city on foot. This is a small restaurant which adds to the atmosphere. Staff were pleasant, spoke good English, and were attentive. We started with a viking beer and a fruit gin and sprite (havent found anywhere that serves lemonade round here yet). Husband had the set 3 course menu and I chose from the A la Carte. He had salmon to start which he loved and I chose the mushroom soup which was poured out into the bowl in front of me on top of the ingredients that were already in there. It was absolutely delicious.
We both had the lamb for mains. We are sheep farmers and usually eat our own lamb, but this was the best lamb I have ever tasted. Cooked to perfection and tasted so flavoursome it was a taste sensation with each mouthful. A glass of red wine chosen from their menu was an excellent accompaniment. Although full, we couldn't resist a dessert, just to see if perfection ran through the whole menu! From the set menu, husband had the chocolate brownie which he enjoyed, and I chose the rhubard cake which was a cross between a cherry bakewell and flapjack served with icecream and very small pieces of raw, tarte rhubarb. It was a taste sensation and rounded off our evening perfectly. Would definitely return despite the £170 price tag.

Genuinely the best food we had during our stay in Iceland. A small, cosy and traditional restaurant serving dishes made with traditional Icelandic ingredients. Some surprising"older" ingredients like parsnips worked really well despite not being seen often in kitchens nowadays. We had the lamb and the cod, both excellent choices. So much so we went again the next day. The desserts were excellent too, any of the options with Rhubarb are highly recommended.

If you have the opportunity to eat here, even if you have to wait in line to get in, it's very much worth it.

Was blessed to be able to secure a table and had my first meal after landing in Iceland. I had to say, it was one of the best restaurants i have visited in Reykjavik during my stay. Their wild mushroom soup and fillet of cod was marvellous! This is a nice and cosy place with limited seating so be sure to visit early otherwise their waiting list gets filled up pretty fast.

I had a 3 course meal here with friends.
The food was just exquisite from start to finish. The (mushroom soup) was heartwarming indeed.
The ‘Icelandic coffee’ was a treat at the end. A step up from an Irish coffee.
The waiter could have been a little more welcoming and hospitable. Especially when one is paying such as I did…. for 3 courses, a soft drink and an (Icelandic coffee) just short of €100.

I stopped in while walking through Reykjavik to ask about a reservation for 7. The guy I spoke to was very welcoming and immediately gave me a time and guaranteed there would be a table for us. When we arrived everything was perfect. Our table was set and ready! The service was impeccable and the food was excellent. Best meal I had while spending Christmas in Reykjavik. Definitely recommend!

Everything we tried here was absolutely delicious! The wild mushroom soup may be the best soup I've ever had! I also recommend the lamb, arctic char, tindur cheese, fresh salad, brownie, and seafood soup. The best meal we had during our stay in Reykjavík! Service was great and the place was very busy- couldn't keep a table empty for more than a few minutes!

Last day in Reykjavik we searched for a nice local dining experience. We decided for the restaurant “Old Iceland” and reserved a table (recommended otherwise good luck😅). The starters 🦞 and the local lamb menu🐏 was excellent. Only minus point is the regularly open doors because everyone walking by wants a table and walks in and stays between the tables and the door. But food wise I can only recommend to try it out when in Reykjavik👌🏼

Warm and cozy place with friendly staff and amazing food. The wild mushroom soup was life changing! I’m not kidding. My girlfriend and I, both foodies, are now on a quest to up our soup game to try to recreate it. The rest of the food was great, too.

We loved everything here. Especially all the fish we tried, the shellfish soup and beef cheek. The service was great, and all run by one guy. We’ll definitely be returning before our trip ends.

This place is a must-visit when you’re in Iceland. We did the set menu and were blown away by each course and the wine was delicious. Thank you for an unforgettable meal!

My God! What is this place and how did I find it? In the freezing cold December I entered this place without a booking and got a friendly welcome. Tried shellfish soup for the first time, with pan fried char to follow, complemented with a Pinot grigio...
Don't have words to explain... This is fine dining at fair price guys, do not miss this place!
