Mount Kosciuszko offers a breathtaking alpine experience, ideal for hikers and nature lovers. The summit provides stunning panoramic views of the Snowy Mountains. The well-maintained trails cater to both casual walkers and serious trekkers. For a unique experience, take the scenic chairlift from Thredbo, which adds a touch of adventure and convenience.

Rating is for the Main Range loop via Blue Lake Lookout (around 22km). Main Range walk part of the loop is spectacular, but quite steep in parts, and the length means the comparatively boring trail back to Charlotte's Pass drags a bit on tired legs, but this is a fantastic way to experience Kosciusko National Park on a well-maintained path.

Dragged my 3 kids up the summit walk. Well worth it and a big accomplishment for them - especially the 8yo who managed 40k + steps for the day in the end.

I’ve done this walk half a dozen times over the last 40 years — and it’s never been better maintained and signposted than it is right now. Gorgeous flowers, plentiful bird life, and views for miles.

Because several of us had done it before, our family group — 8 people from 9 to 59 — were appropriately layered, sun protected, snacked and watered, but we saw plenty of others on the trail who were suffering because they hadn’t taken even elemental care.

Just because you can — theoretically — walk to the top of Australia in a T-shirt doesn’t mean it’s a good idea, especially on a windy day with low cloud, even if it is technically “summer”. Just don’t. At the absolute minimum take a windproof top, sunglasses, good shoes (walking boots preferred) and a hat.

And do not succumb to the temptation of running downhill on the metal trail. Even a minor fall on that razor sharp (and thus effective even in snow/ice) surface will ruin your day.

Highest mountain in Australia, so to get there it was take time with a good hike! Thinking is the key!

Don't forget to fill out the NPWS forms so they know you are up there! This is a must!

Make sure you use sunscreen as there are no trees to hinde under!

You can take the chair lift from Thredbo to Eagles' nest, then you will have a 12km return hike!

This hike has a steel grate to walk along in the summer time but in winter months it is a very dangerous place to go if you are not well prepared, so Plan your trip right and you will have an amazing time...

Although there are several ways you can go, some are quite long with a 19-24km return hike!

If you have time to hike the main range loop it's definitely worth it. Stunning scenery and much quieter than the main drag up to the summit. Can be a bit tricky with the snow cover but still worth it. About a 23km loop.

Awesome experience to walk to the top of Australia! We used the cable ski ride up from Thredbo and then walked to the top. We had a magic clear day in April with some snow left on the ground from the weekend before.

Summited Mt K ( Kosciuszko) one week before ski season started. We were lucky enough to get a good dusting of snow days prior which made for interesting hiking conditions. The chair lift was exciting and pretty quiet, no waiting in lines like I have heard can happen in ski season. Chilly winds and a faceful of snow ripped into us as clambered off the chairlift. Theres a shed like structure directly in front which I recommend using to tuck in your thermal undies and batten down any areas you dont want snow to sneak into ( life hack:back of pants and pant legs y'all). Now, the hike...My advice push on! Dont let the nipple hardening winds and labourous walking ( and or dredging/ dragging) your feet through the knee high snow deter you. After the first hill and before first ( professionally allocated lookout) y'all will find a metal grate path and this makes walking way way easier. Weather changes from sunny to snowy in a flash so dont be alarmed. The summit of Mt K, while Im sure is picturesque ( due to the mini blizzard we experienced while on summit all we could see was 50 meters infront of us, alas no rolling landscapes of the high country) the fun and novalty of hiking in the snow was reward enough. Now I can say I have climbed the smallest tallest mountain in Australia AND hiked in the snow. Have a coffee beforehand, take a sandwich ( on the walk not from the cafe, thats called stealing) and plough through till you make it. Mt K may be small compared to Everest but its all we got . Last one to the top is a rotten egg!

Excellent hiking when don’t take any chairlifts.

It’s a great walk of 13 in return along steel mesh walk ways apart from last 700 m of gravel.

Excellent easy hiking trail to the very top of Australia. Well maintained roads and trails all around, including toilets. Windproof jacket recommended.

One of the most scenic walk ever. Weather was fantastic and we got to see some snow left. Reached the peak and back to ski lift station in 5hours including a lunch break on the peak of Mt Kosciuszko. SIimply amazing!!

The walk from Thredbo to Charlottes Pass via the Main Range Track was fabulous. Weather for much of the walk was windy and cloudy, but it didn't detract from the experience much, and we thoroughly enjoyed the walk, a energy and varying landscapes. The walk was very popular with others too. When we arrived at the top of the mountain, there were around 30 others, and people arrived and left continuously. On previous walks up the mountain, the views were spectacular, and it feels like a whole different world up there. I very much recommend anyone who thinks they may enjoy walking to give it a go.

Decent hike with lovely views. Well preserved, with board walks most of the way to the summit from Thredbo, and the summit path quite well maintained. The views are beautiful in summer with the bloomed flowers.

Love this walk. 13 Klm return walk on formed paths & raised metal grid. Journey starts with a 1 mile long chairlift ride from Thredbo township to the start of the walk at Eagles Nest restaurant. Today's weather was superb - sunny, a light breeze & 20°C - perfect walking weather. Still some snow around the peaks & plenty of other visitors all undertaking a spectacular scenic walk to the highest summit in Australia. Will come back again.

What an amazing experience. I would really recommend doing the main range walk though. It gives you such a higher sense of accomplishment, although it is a much tougher climb. Especially across snow. But this was definitely an experience to remember.

Summit walk is easy aside from the distance and the main range loop is well worth the extra 5km. Summit can get pretty crowded but lovely views. Still some snow to walk across in December, the main range loop has a few river crossings.

Very fortunate to have a superb day weather wise. We did the 23km loop counter clockwise from Charlotte's Pass. We took 8 hrs to walk it with plenty of stops. Actual walking time was 5hrs.

A pristine environment that caters for many activities.
Catch the chair lift and walk the remainder to the summit on a well planned metal grate walkway, or alternative tracks to Blue Lake and Charlotte Pass.
Stacks of mountain bike tracks for every riding style.

Easy walk to the summit. Most of it iron boardwalk. Because of the heavy snow in winter there were some snowfields to cross, some a bit steep.
