Snowy Mountains is a region in southeastern Australia, known for its stunning alpine landscapes and winter sports. Located in the southern part of New South Wales, the Snowy Mountains are part of the Great Dividing Range. This picturesque area is home to Australia's highest peak, Mount Kosciuszko, which stands at 2,228 meters (7,310 feet) above sea level.

During winter, the Snowy Mountains transform into a winter wonderland, with snow-covered peaks and ski resorts attracting outdoor enthusiasts. Perisher and Thredbo are two popular ski resorts in the region, offering a range of skiing, snowboarding, and other snow activities. The area's breathtaking beauty extends beyond winter, with opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and fishing during the warmer months.

Sydney, on the other hand, is Australia's largest city and the capital of New South Wales. Situated on the east coast, Sydney is famous for its iconic landmarks, including the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The city boasts a vibrant cosmopolitan atmosphere, with a diverse population and a thriving arts, culture, and dining scene.

Sydney's coastal location provides ample opportunities for enjoying beautiful beaches like Bondi, Manly, and Coogee. The city's harbor is a major attraction, offering harbor cruises, waterfront dining, and recreational activities. Additionally, Sydney hosts various festivals and events throughout the year, such as the vivid Sydney Festival, New Year's Eve fireworks, and the Sydney Royal Easter Show.

Together, the Snowy Mountains and Sydney offer a wonderful contrast between alpine landscapes and bustling city life, providing visitors with a diverse range of experiences in Australia.

Great place to go during winter if you are NSW, ACT, VIC or anywhere in the world and want to enjoy snow.

You can choose to go to any of the resorts Thredbo, Smiggin Holes, Perisher or Blue Cow.

Note tobogganing is not allowed in Thredbo.

Only issue is there is very little chance to practice your ski skills if you don't take a lift pass which is about $195 per day per person.

But it is best recommended to take ski lessons if you are a beginner. 2 days of lessons with equipment and lift access can cost you about $600 -$700.

5 star to the instructors, they are good at any level you choose to do your ski instructions. You will be able to learn the basics in about 3 days.

You could stay at Jindabyne if you book early or Cooma. Get your ski gear from Cooma or Jindabyne and also your tyre chains if you are not driving a AWD or 4 WD as it's a mandatory to have them in your car even if don't need to use them.

Book your lift passes online and get a mountain access card which will load all lift pass, lessons, etc on to it.

All resorts have restaurants where you can get food and drinks. If it's too cold have mulled wine to keep you warm.

On a warm day you can chill at the snowy River bank or Jindabyne lake. Do a picnic and fishing ( look for boards on where you can fish and the season)

It is such a beautiful place to spend your holiday... you could find any motels nearby and the equipment for playing such as, ski, snowboards, jackets, pants, walking boots, as well. if you want to save money for accommodation, you can stay in motels, around 1 hour, before the resorts

Awesome snow fall, we visited during end of June 2021, weather ok, lowest temperature is around 1 degree.
Jindabnye is the nearest place for accommodation, else if bit of travel ok can stay at Berridale where minimum daily need things available, Cooma is big city where we can find all kinds of stores Aldi, restaurants, Reject shop, birdsnest shop, many others.

Usually entry allowed from 7am for both Thredbo & Perisher. So one can have good breakfast and start to snowies. Exit is recommended to start around 4pm from either of the locations.

We hired snow gear/ tobaggon at Snow City, Jindabnye good & friendly service they provided. Better plan to have food before 2pm at both locations otherwise cafes will be closed n need to go to Jindabnye for food. If u r ok to have food in your car, can pack some finger foods. We have Woolworths at Jindabnye, some shops n restaurants here. Near the Jindabnye lake we can enjoy the weather, we were lucky that we were there on a full moon day.

Tobbagons not allowed at Thredbo, but at Perisher tobbagons are allowed.

For little kids they might cry as they don't want to be packed & tries to remove the snowgear & cries for the unbearable cold. Be cautious with little one's.

We enjoyed unlimited ride for cables at Thredbo till 3pm, but weather is very unpredictable quite a big wind at Thredbo, hence they stopped cables and made everyone to come down from the mountain through cable, if weather becomes worst, we may need to spend the whole time at the top of the mountain until weather settles. The other day snowfall along with rain at Perisher.

Tip- If you are ok better have breakfast & Dinner at Room stay, have lunch outside restaurants which makes you cozy with hot food all day like this :D

Don't forget snow boots though, if u forgot u need to regret ;)

The best time to visit is before August. There are few more places to visit, just check google and find tourist places nearby.

Way better in person than the "Snowy River" movies. If you are of a mind to step away from your computers and devices and GO OUTSIDE 😲 this is a beautiful, lush place to enjoy yet not far from "civilization".

Mesmerising views and just like a magical place. But make sure to have enough fuel to go back and chain with you as we really had trouble in both of above mentioned things

Skitube is very expensive and a good option if you have don’t have a 4WD. Better stay near the mountains or reach the ski earlier than 7am to get a parking!

This is the first time I saw and touched snow! So beautiful and relaxing.

I tried to learn skiing. It's not as easy as it may seemed. I suggest you to take the ski lesson.

My husband hurt himself while skiing. I could see him waving his hand from far away asking for help. I was confused and didn't know exactly what to do. But thank God they have reliable rescue team there, very fast respond. The doctor there was very kind and funny, helping us to calm down.

So yeah... Enjoy the view, have fun skiing, just don't hurt yourself.

Great place to ski, tobaggaging or snow boarding. Ideal time to visit world be in June and July although it can get quite crowded by the mid July with most people coming to ski the slopes at Thredbo. Make sure that your vehicle is in perfect condition as the drive to go out towards Canberra passes through a single lane path with a lot of wallabies and wombats coming in the way
