The Grand Dining Room

Dinner at the Carrington was wonderful and very much a time warp. The food was lovely – along with the ambience and tireless pianist – and we received exemplary service from two young waiters (we didn’t get their names, but it was Thurs 10 Nov) who were the perfect level of attentive. Thank you – you made our little anniversary dinner so memorable! ☺

Really lovely evening. David the pianist was amazing, played at our request. Didn’t top up wine but minor issue. Normally you can taste the wine first, we could taste red wine but white wine they just poured. Good nice, really worth experience, lovely atmosphere

We’ve eaten here twice and love the ambience of the dining room, great piano accompaniment during dinner and general feel of the place. The food is very much on par with fine dining we often have in the city. Would highly recommend. One thing to note is to park at the entrance to Carrington Cellars around the back of the hotel, off Park Street - the parking you access from the front (off the main road) is for hotel guests only.

We had the most amazing dinner whilst we stayed at The Carrington. I had the Venison and my husband had the chicken. Both dinners just melted in the mouth and the flavours were exquisite.

This is the Carrington Hotel's main restaurant and wow, what a place. It's said to be one of the last Victorian style restaurants in Australia with original features. It's like a journey back through time and a must see if ever in Katoomba.

While the food was good, what made for a truly lovely evening was was the ambience. Such a beautifully lit, nostalgic dining room. The staff were very friendly, attentive and willing to please. The highlight of the evening for me, personally, was the young pianist named Jake. (We were there on a Thursday evening). What a treat to have such a talented musician playing so beautifully while we ate! Would come back.

A beautiful grand experience in the old style, wonderful piano player and atmosphere. Lovely attentive staff. The menu looked great but the meals didn’t meet the same expectations.

This building was here since 1880 and the interior is awesome

We had a mixed experience.
The setting was absolutely beautiful, such a glorious place to dine.
The food quality was however quite below what we expected. Venison meat was delicious, but rest of the plate was subpar (potatoes undercooked etc). Potato rostis were overcooked to the point of being inedible. We sent them back to the kitchen and were told (quite rudely) that 'this is how the chef serves them'.
Luckily the restaurant manager checked in later in the night and was absolutely wonderful when we explained the situation (very apologetic and took the meal off the bill).
Desserts we're all delicious.
Overall this restaurant has the potential to be an amazing experience, but was let down by poor service and hit-and-miss food.
