Mathilde French Bistro

So pleased to discover that the former bistro I once frequented when I worked in the area hasn't lost a step as Mathilde French Bistro. The escargot was perfect and the true charcuterie board was fantastic with the duck rillet and the saucisson d’ail being my favorites. The delicious plat du jour of perfectly cooked sea bass, shrimp, mussels mashed potatoes and saffron reduction was well executed and surprisingly light. Paired perfectly with a bottle of Sancerre. Finished off with an excellent mousse au chocolat. Will return for the cassoulet and profiteroles 🥂🇫🇷😋

We had a 5:30pm reservation. As soon as we arrived, we ordered 5 staters. They were all great but chicken liver salad and mussels was stand out. The sauce coming from the mussels was delicious. You can taste the cream and tarragon in the sauce. My daughter soaked up all of the sauces with the house made baguette. We emptied out all of the appetizers. For dinner I had the filet mignon (medium rare), their fried potatoes was out of this world. I would go again for any celebration. San Francisco is very competitive in terms of great restaurants and I think this one is under the radar. Highly recommend to check this place out if you have the chance

This is a great bistro. The service side of things was fantastic. Everyone worked together as a team to provide a really smooth dining experience.

Food was beautiful to look at, to smell, and to eat. All the ingredients were really fresh. My main was a special; duroc pork chop on red cabbage and mashed potatoes, and a grainy mustard sauce with cumin seeds and it was delicious. A special special to be sure.

I ended the meal with an apple tarte tatin a la mode and a nice caramel sauce drizzle. Along with a piping hot espresso, a fine way to end the meal. I will definitely return here when I come back to the city.

The whole dining experience was enjoyable - from awesome food to great service. The apple tart was to die for! Must order when you come here.

The food & service were both wonderful, and the pricing was very reasonable by SF standards given its quality. The escargot's butter sauce paired very well with the table-side bread and the duck leg confit was incredibly tender. This bistro is absolutely worth visiting!

Went there for dinner and had a fantastic experience. We ordered escargots and mushroom gnocchi as starters. Then for dinner we had the duck leg and it was perfectly cooked. Topping of the night we had delicious desserts.

Service was flawless at all time and everyone there were very kind with us. Looking forward to go back soon!

Mathilde really is a wonderful hidden gem in SOMA! Very delicious traditional French cuisine that is now in my list of favorites for San Francisco restaurants to frequent.

We've been here a couple times now and everything we've had has been amazing. Highly recommend whatever specials they may have: this time it was the beef bourguignon ravioli appetizer. Duck leg confit was delicious on its own, but the potatoes that came with the dish were so perfectly executed and enjoyable, it's definitely worth calling out. Also recommend the mushroom risotto too!

Found this small French restaurant in the SOMA district. Inside are old chandeliers and wall scones. Tables are separated well. We had the Roasted Beet and Arugula salad and Ravioles with Boeuf Bourguignon in Red Wine Jus for appetizers. Beautifully done. For main course we had the filet mignon and the duck confit. The filet mignon was perfectly cooked with crispy potatoes. My wife loved the duck confit with crispy skin.
Service was good and fast. As a side we also had the Brioche bread which we did not realize was an extra charge.

This French restaurant reminds me of home. In this huge city I could not image such a sophisticated French restaurant. This chef was spot on. My night was magical. If you dine at night, it is so romantic. So, make sure to dress up! I can not wait to return to the city but this time I hope to meet the chef.

Tres Bonne! Such a lovely meal. Had the Tiger prawns which tasted like pepperoni and small but super delicious escargot. Lovely bread was served and deliciously enjoyed the rest of the garlic butter from the escargot. Then followed with some flank steak and their special ribeye both were so flavorful and throughly enjoyed. Cant wait to go back and try the fish it smelled so tasty from the table next to ours. I can't say enough good things about this French gem! The service was top-notch, and the staff went above and beyond to make our dining experience exceptional. As for the food, it was a gastronomic journey. Each dish was a delightful revelation of French culinary expertise. The ambiance was a perfect blend of elegance and warmth, creating an inviting atmosphere. This restaurant is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates outstanding French cuisine.

I am from the bayou of Louisiana. This French restaurant reminds me of home. In this huge city I could not image such a sophisticated French restaurant. I normally take more pictures of my food, but I was just lost in the moment with my husband. This chef was spot on. My night was magical. If you dine at night, it is so romantic. So, make sure to dress up! I can not wait to return to the city but this time I hope to meet the chef.

Super delicious meal! The service was excellent and the atmosphere was very intimate and quiet. It felt like I had been transported to France. C'était magnifique ! I would recommend making a reservation, as it is quite a small restaurant.

First of all, the service was one of the best we’ve ever had. We came for dinner with our 2 years old son who was tired and hungry and they brought us French fries from the house for our toddler, in less then 2 minutes after our arrival.
Food was great as well, especially Coq au vin!
Definitely recommend for a cozy delicious French dinner!

Great spot! Lovely back patio dining, great for a date. Food was delicious, especially loved the gnocchi. Service was on point, and had a very charming waitress. Will definitely be back. A new go-to when in the Fidi.

The atmosphere is intimate and nice. The patio is really pretty.
Food was great. Escargot are good, as well as risotto and duck leg. Desserts were really good, especially profiteroles!

We wiped every single one of our plates clean. The servings were pretty big but the food was incredibly well prepared.

Great experience! Love the ambience and vibe. The menu had great traditional French-American selections. Highlights were the French Onion soup and the hanger steak. The dessert selections were equally as impressive, as was the service. Next time I'm in the city, I'll definitely stop in again.

Outstanding! Phenomenal! Incredible! Exquisite! How many superlative adjectives can one find to describe a restaurant like this? Food was absolutely delicious. Service was friendly, competent, and very attentive even to the small details. I and my family cannot recommend it highly enough. We plan on coming back, even if we have to swim across the bay to get here. It is wonderful to find a restaurant like this to cap off a wonderful day in San Francisco. Miss coming here at your own peril!

We were lucky to come when the special boeuf bourguignon was on the menu, so good! The service was perfect, there when you need it but never hovering, the food was classic French, and the wines by the glass were delicious. Great date night.
