I had first been referred to this fantastic cooperative about 5 years ago while hitchhiking through Northern California during the tourist season, a well as "maximum yield" of harvest time. Therefore, nobody would start seeing a patient whom hadn't been established prior to the start of the new academic semester. I called everywhere within 100 mile radius in every direction, to no avail. I attempted to contact all surrounding counties' General Assistance Information Lines; from SF to LA to Eureka/Arcata even so far out as Butte County which is almost heading back towards the Atlantic seaside. I was just beginning to lose hope when I was informed of this wonderful program offered once every fiscal month of each year for those struggling with being nearly legally blind and unable to afford the going rate for an optical exam as well as the cost of lenses and frames.
Needless to say, on the 1st Tuesday of every month a local Opthalmologist/Optician volunteers his time, talent and treasure to the City and County of San Francisco, California. The first 15-20 patrons whom show up at Saint Paulis Cathedral between 8am-noon will be given a free full eye exam for both glasses as well as contact lenses; the glaucoma pressure test which shoots air into the ocular orifice to measure the ability of your two sight seeing sites to withstand pressure alteration which can predict potential issues in the future which could result in an irreversible disease called Glaucoma. This preventative measurable test is imperative for many people's longevity, as well as their sense of Quality of Life; ad infinitum and L'Chaim to Doctor Edward Soss, O.D.
P.S. I truly enjoyed Dr Soss' "bedside manner, jovial perspective, and continuum of care so very much, that he has been my constant Optometrist of choice ever since my cross country " geographical cure, " back in 2010!
Also, his private office where you must pick up your finished corrective lenses, is centrally located by the famous Crocker-Amazon baseball park.

I discovered Douglas Brett in the early 90s when I worked at Saks Fifth Avenue in the visual department . I just today discovered him again kind a reunion of sorts relocated on Polk Street .

About a month ago I came here with my teenage nieces. I asked if I could purchase the statues that were featured with some crystals. He replied “They are for sale but I don’t believe they are within your budget.” I’m sure you can imagine my nieces were waiting for me to angrily respond. I smiled at him and told him have a nice day. I’ve never been treated so horribly by a salesperson in my life.

Not that it matters but I shared nothing of a sort to make this man think I couldn’t afford his products and yet he refused to make a sale with me. Horrible service, horrible atmosphere, horrible man.
