My wife is a regular patron. Every time she goes in to ask about gear, the knowledgeable experts behind the counter always give good advice, often pointing her towards inexpensive solutions rather than the next new/expensive thing.

On my last visit, I saw a beautiful synthesizer that I had been looking at for years, and their price was more than fair. I may have hesitated anywhere else, but I trust these guys and confident that my purchase was supporting a great local business. Easy!

Excellent customer service, fair price, and even called back to make sure I knew about a small scratch on the instrument (I didn't) and offer a discount to make it right (I took it), then packed very well and delivered the next day (no shipping cost). Great instrument and experience, and I will definitely shop here again!

Great place! Inventory is vast and varied. Prices are competitive and the staff is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Recently bought a Yamaha GL-1 guitalele. The price was the same as Amazon but included a case; Amazon did not. I’m about 90 minutes away from this store but will go out of my way to go there again.

I just stopped in from out of town. Every staff member was very friendly and helpful. They have a great selection of gear for a store of that size. I only wish they were closer, as I would definitely buy from them again!

Recently ordered a Gibson Acoustic Songwriter on line. The staff was very knowledgeable and I decided despite living in Michigan I would take the chance. For some reason UPS delayed the shipment and when it arrived the seal was broken and evidently UPS had damaged the carton.
The guys at Downtown assured me that if there were issues they would make it right.
I did a thorough inspection and all was well. Downtown Music was great. The instrument is great and I would definitely buy from them again!

I have a terminally ill young son. He wanted to be a guitarist when he grew up. But, he's not going to get that chance. He wanted a guitar. I figured a Tenor Guitar would be perfect, because they are small, light-weight, and have very narrow necks for his small hands.

I attempted to purchase him one online from a music store. It turned out to be a nightmare. They sent me their used garbage, instead of the new guitar I had ordered. I'm still trying to get my money back.

Then, I ordered one from this music venue. After my initial anger at not having been sent the exact guitar pictured, I realized that they are doing the best they can at working within the limitations of selling through Reverb. The pictures they show can only be representative of what they are selling, not the exact instrument you'll be getting. I wasn't being ripped-off again. They don't have full control of the process, so they can't always guarantee the outcome.

But, what they do have full control of, they do well.
They sent me the new guitar I ordered. It was in pristine condition. It arrived on time. They packed it for shipment very well. I have never seen a guitar packed for shipment so well before. It literally would have survived an airdrop.

My son loves it, and I thank you for making him happy!

The best music store in Northampton. The staff is too notch and always incredibly helpful. They have a decent selection of pro sound gear and have usually found a workaround to my issues.

The service was wonderful and the staff were welcoming and knowledgeable. I went to Downtown Sounds to buy my first instrument in almost 30 years. I walked in nervous, scared, and unsure if I could even play music… I walked out excited to play my new banjo. Thank you for a great experience.

Downtown Sounds is where I go when I need guitar work, and I love shopping there too. The staff are great; they know their stuff and they never make me feel like I need to prove my street-cred in order to feel welcome in the store. They are invested in the success of the store and it’s reflected in how they work with the customer. There is no reason whatsoever for me to consider not shopping here anymore, so they’ll continue to be my first stop.

I recently bought a used bass at Downtown Sounds. The staff was extremely helpful, set me up in a room to try out the instrument, didn’t bother me the whole time. When I was done I was asked how I liked it and the guy answered my questions with thoughtful and knowledgeable answers. I was able to make an offer online and texted back and forth to agree on a price. All in all a most pleasurable experience. Buying an instrument, for me, can be stressful. The price, do I really need it, all the second guessing myself. So having calm knowledgeable non-pushy assistance was great. I’ve been coming to Downtown Sounds since the early 70’s, and am so glad the business is still in existence. Thank you for a positive experience. Also I was told I have 2 months to get it set up to my liking if needed. But it’s pretty well set up as is.

I love living in a town with actual brick and mortar, independent music shops. I have visited Downtown Sounds to buy/trade/sell instruments, have service and repairs, and to purchase accessories like strings, reeds, picks, and replacement parts. I know when I walk in that someone will be able to help me find what I need. Since becoming a co-op, I feel that the focus of high quality service, and individual attention has really shined. The new layout makes it easy to ogle their quality merchandise, and they’ve upped their game with new partnerships with the top brands on the market. Cheers!

I worked with Jason Carpenter on a purchase of an Epiphone Texan. I have purchased hundreds and hundreds of guitars in my life and this by far was the best experience I've ever had... That man has earned my business and I will order many things in the future from this store just to give the business to Jason !! Absolutely fantastic !

I needed an audio interface and so I gave a call . They took their time with me on the phone and made me feel comfortable asking about the product . I ordered it and went to the store where I was welcomed by all the employees . One of them helped me out with some questions about amplifiers . Again , just generous with their time and knowledgeable . Will be headed back there again . Not many music stores like this around anymore .

Found the guitar I was looking for and liked the idea of buying from a worker owned co-op. They shipped fast and the guitar was packaged really well and set up, with some unexpected nice surprises thrown in. This shop is aces. Highly recommend!

Downtown sounds has been a staple for amazing guitar work and customer service in my 25 years of playing! They are very knowledgeable in every aspect of music! They go above and beyond every time. I recently moved further away from Northampton but will always travel to use them as my go to guitar shop!
