Very friendly and helpful stylists. The store was beautifully arranged. Thick, high quality sweaters. Clay’s should be rated higher! I look forward to my next shop there.

I have loved Clay's since my son started at Amherst in 2002. They have a very unique and individual sense of style. Even my husband knows it's a must stop for me in Amherst.

I love the selection at Clay’s - so many unique pieces, at reasonable prices...and with coupons!
The staff is genuinely helpful if I have difficulty deciding.

Great clothes and selection. The staff tends to hawk and are not exactly honest when helping people. They go for the sale regardless of whether it's flattering for the customer.

I have purchased clothing both full price and on sale from clays over the past two years in Amherst Mass. I am on their mailing list and I receive regular coupons when they have sales. I am elderly and handicap so getting there can be difficult at times but I only shop couple times a year. Today I was traveling home from the North, New Hampshire and decided to stop in Amherst to save myself another lengthy trip from my house to Claus where I live in Springfield mass. I did not plan to shop when I left the house this morning for New Hampshire and when I arrived, the store was empty of customers and two sales people pleasantly greeted me. I explained that my coupon was home but I was on their mailing list and they could’ve easily look that up in their computer as they have my home phone my email and all other information. They informed me they could not honor 20% off without me presenting an actual physical coupon. Unfortunately I did not shop or spend any of my money at this business since they were not accommodating to a loyal customer . My perception was they are more interested in making money then keeping a valued customer. I will not return

I have gone to Clays in Amherst for 15 years, buy all my clothes there, have spent thousands there. I have recommended it to others. But something has changed. I recently bought an item on a shelf on which everything was advertised as 33% off. I was charged the full price. Then I noticed it and went back to be refunded the discount. The clerk, backed up by an owner, refused to give the discount ("that brand was not supposed to be discounted"). I told her it was on the discount shelf. "It shouldn't have been there." I said I was upset, that it was not fair." "I'm sorry you feel that way.
It was surprising, maddening. Amazing. Even if the item was placed there by mistake, by them, they should have honored the discount to a loyal long term customer. I will not be shopping there again and I will discourage others from going.

One week ago I purchased two items that were marked down and understood that I would receive the advertised 50 % off prices. When I arrived home I noticed that one item was marked $23.27 but the sales slip listed the price as $33.27. When I returned to the shop I was told that it was a human error and that they could not correct it. Hence, the price I had to pay with my 50% preferred customer discount was more than the ticketed price of $23.27. The clerk agreed that it did not seem fair but she did not have the authority to either take the item back or to give me the ticketed price at least. She took my name and phone number and said that she would have the owner call me. That was a week ago and I have heard nothing. Buyer beware!

I received a call on 9/30 from the store manager who, under the circumstances, agreed to give a full credit card refund. I am satisfied that this was offered.

My wife purchased a shirt on May 12. Brought it home and prepared to wear it, thereby removed the tags. Four days later a 20% discount coupon arrived in the mail. My wife visited the store with the receipt the next day and asked if the coupon could be honored retroactively. Since the tags were no longer on the item, she was refused in a rather terse and unkind manner. We are very disappointed in this poor customer service. It is no wonder people shop at Big Box stores where such transactions would be honored!! Clay's just lost a customer and my friends will also be warned not to support Clay's because of the unfriendly policy.

I'd shop here if only there were mirrors in the dressing rooms...why on earth would anyone want to come out of the dressing room into the middle of the store to see what the clothes look like? If I want your opinion, I'll ask...it's a very uncomfortable shopping experience.
