Love this store for diy projects. My cushions came with yellow but red wine is my accent color so I headed to the store. Love the result.

This was my first trip here and it was a wonderful experience!!! I found so many wonderful fabrics, all high quality, in beautiful and unique prints. Everything is very reasonably priced including fabrics, trims, and notions. Plan your visit to allow for time because you will have to wait in line to get things cut for you.

Well-organized and has a great variety of good quality fabrics at very reasonable prices - $6/yard for 54" wide upholstery fabric is pretty spectacular. Doesn't always have every specific thing because it's a discount store, but honestly their variety is impressive and I always shop here first!

I was in twin city Plaza recently, and I came across a shop called Sewphosticated fabrics. The owner, Joan, was incredibly helpful when I asked her questions about specific fabrics, how to cut them and about their quality. She actually stayed half an hour late past closing just specifically to help me. She is very knowledgeable about her business. She was incredibly helpful, and the store is also very well stocked with every kind of fabric you could imagine. They also have other items like things to create your own facemasks, as well as lace and other sewing equipment. It’s a really fun, beautiful store. I suggest visiting if you’re in Twin City plaza. Say hello to Joan who’s been there for 35 who’s been there for over 35 years! Support your local businesses.

Prices are bar none for fabric, I've shopped at many fabric stores (the garment district in NYC, JoAnn's, other Boston area fabric stores like Gather Here) and none have been as cheap as this. Frequently find quality fabric for $2-4 a yard. The selection is very weird, they might have only a single type of a particular knit/linen at times, so come in with a bunch of projects in mind.

I've been here probably at least several dozen times now, mostly because of it's proximity to the T and the stupidly low prices. The store is always packed on the weekends and I've never seen the employees being rude to anyone (unless the customer was rude first, which was the case several times). The cuts are frequently generous and the selection is quite nice

A great place if you're knowledgeable and looking to treasure hunt. Prices are amazing! $5.99-$9.99/yd for beautiful silk chiffon. Unique products you won't find at the big box stores. I've never had an issue with customer service here. If you remember it's a discount store, wrangle your kids, and don't mess up the tables, you'll be fine! I wear my baby here because there is NO room for a stroller. Would not be an easy store to navigate with a wheelchair.

I love this place. I come here for all my fabric needs. Lady who I think runs the place is incredibly knowledgeable. I do agree with some of the negative reviews though - don't expect staff to be warm and friendly. They're nice! But just don't go in with expectations of superior customer service.

This and Gather Here are my two favorite fabric stores in the area, for different reasons. Sewfisticated has AMAZING prices and a good selection of quilting cottons (often last year's brand names at discount prices). Their specialty fabrics can't be beat, whether you need decor fabric, wool suiting, or bathing suit material. It's true that the owner is brusque (at best), but the rest of the staff is super helpful and knowledgeable. And really, given the prices, it's worth the minor trade-off in customer service, on occasion.

I nearly always go to this store for my fabric needs. The prices are SUPER cheap, and you'll probably never go to JoAnn's again if you come here!

As for the negative reviews, yeah, the owner can be rude/blunt. But there are clear signs that say to not let your children away from you (I've seen parents acknowledge this, let their children run around and knock stuff over, and then get mad when the owner says something). Considering there's usually only 2 people working when I'm here (3 at most) it gets hectic, and most people are very indecisive when they get their fabric cut.

All in all, if you want good prices, and staff that are knowledgeable about fabrics, check this place out! I couldn't recommend it more!

Fantastic. I thought I’d never see another rag shop again. Discovering this store was a dream. I could enter the shop needing nothing, and leave with a million trims, tassels, buttons, fabrics... I never thought I would have access to such elegant materials - and for a fraction of what they would cost online.

The lady who works there is extremely down-to-earth and knowledgeable. I was confused by some of the defamation on this comment section...After meeting her (while I spent about two hours deliberating over trims), and seeing her interact with other customers, I assume those reviews are coming from some crabby customer who would complain about anything.

This store is so great - I will go here for all my projects. Really grateful to have found it.

People whining about the service are mostly idiots who expect the sales people to be able to tell them how much fabric they need and basically how to make their own project. The prices and selection are incredible, but no you will not get any help on your project from the sales associates here. It is a discount fabric store.

I've never had any problem with the staff, they have always been nothing but nice to me and even let me film here when I was featured on MTV's True Life. So for that I will always have love for them

I normally go to the Dorchester location but I have been to this location quite a few times. Fortunately, I have never run into the owner everyone is complaining about. I would say this location is great. Because each location stocks some different items you can always find something unique. In every review people keep saying "it's discount" as some sort of qualifier. The store is organized and neat as most fabric stores are. The staff have a working knowledge of fabrics and uses. They have a large range of fabric types, colors, and designs. It's not a boutique with hard wood floors and a glass of champagne waiting for you at the door but, I mean what fabric store is? Even Joann's is just a big square room with white walls and floors (depending on the age of the store. West Roxbury store I looking at you and your beige, formally, white everything). So it would be very nice if everyone stopped saying "its discount" as though that means the fabric they sell isn't of good quality.

Also, I've seen several people complain about not being able to buy less than a yard or leave less than 2 yards on the bolt. This is standard at most fabric stores because 2 yards is the cut off for the yardage on most projects/patterns. So if there's less than 2 yards conceivably no one will buy it so they have to discount it as a remnant, which they don't want to do.

I love this place and have been going for many years. I always something beautiful and priced great. Not a place to go to expect to find a particular thing ( I want navy linen, there will be linen but maybe not navy). You will be happily surprised at the great fabrics and notions. I highly recommend this store.

This fabric store has great selection for the best price point. I have gotten high quality denim for only dollars a yard and recently picked up a beautiful wool outwear material for only $7 dollars a yard. Short walk from the lechmere stop on the green line and well worth the trip.

It has a lot of variety of fabric to choose from & the price was good. The staffs are friendly. I read the other viewers comments about grumpy lady who works there but she wasn't there today...maybe I was lucky.

I come here with vague ideas and leave excited about my interesting fabrics that don't break the bank. Lots of different types too and then any little accent or sparkly tape or lace or whatever you need. Best fabric store in cambridge/somerville EASY. The only other one I know of is gather here and they do not have anywhere near the breadth of stuff, but maybe more prints.

The store is laid out very plainly so I tend to mind my business, but I've generally had good interactions with the owner. Once she told me I should start selling my projects and we chatted about how that can make it less fun. I think she's nice, I feel like she maybe just gets frustrated sometimes.

The dorchester location is also great.

Love this local chain (3 stores)!

I come here when I want apparel linen, upholstery fabric, or curtain fabric.

They also have a lot of fabrics for costumes - I talked to someone in line once who was buying supplies for a dance studio.

The Framingham location is my FAVORITE fabric store because it is bigger, but Somerville is great, too. If I am in the area I always go here. The prices are absolutely amazing- less than half the SALE prices at Joann's. One third the price of Fabric Place. They have the largest selection of silks I have ever seen outside of NYC- all less than $10/yd. The bad reviews are all from people who expected to have a personal shopper carry their bolts and calculate the yardage for their project. I really do not know of ANY fabric store that does that.
If you want to talk customer service, just ask the owners whether they have more bolts of a certain fabric and they will go to their warehouse and look and email you. I can't believe the comments about racist behavior because their stores court and cater to African customers. I once saw a woman clean out the densely embroidered cut lace fabric to bring BACK to Africa because it was so cheap at Sewfisticated. They have authentic African wax batiks for $4/yd. The owner told me that he stocks different fabrics at the each store depending on the African nationalities in the area.
My latest steal there? A Marc Jacobs sateen cotton print for $4/yd. They carry stuff that you never see at any other store- tons of fake fur, leather hides, rolls of leatherette for purses, real wool suiting. They give you a 10% discount if you buy over $200 ( yes I have seen this several times) Better yet, sign up for their email list and you will get a 20% off on a $50+ purchase a couple times a year.

They was very good to me. I bought some very nice material last time I was there. They always have very new ce material at very low prices. I always love the material I buy from them; and I love what I make out of it.
