Genki Ya - Somerville

I am always trying sashimi restaurants. This is now at the top of my list! I had the appetizer sashimi plate and it was delicious. I will revisit this place! Nice location on the corner in bustling Davis Square!

The Rich Salmon roll was literally some of the best sushi I’ve ever had. It was less than $15. Maybe I got good stuff because I was here at 3pm? I really don’t know, but I’m absolutely coming again!

A peaceful oasis amidst the bustle of David Sq. The service was very good and attentive. Food came out soon. We ordered Miso Soup, Organic Salad and a few rolls. I loved the dressing on the Salad and the greens were good. Not too much dressing, which I appreciated. The maki rolls were also very good. Fresh and interesting. My only complaint was the soup was a bit watery. But given how good the food was this may have been a once off. We will be back.

Genki Ya is the best restaurant in Davis Square! Very healthy and affordable food. I lived near Little Tokyo in Los Angeles for decades and was elected to the local neighborhood council in the district. I haven't had Japanese food that's this good since I left Los Angeles. I especially love the broccoli (the sauce is very unique) and the salmon (perfectly cooked - crispy outside and tender inside). Quiet and relaxing environment with Hawaiian style music playing all the time. Extremely kind, compassionate and friendly owner and staff. The broccoli salad is amazing and after I eat the sashi-mi my brain almost always works better. Elaine (I-Ling), Paul, and everyone else at Genki Ya always treat me like a friend and a neighbor-- not just like a customer passing through. Genki Ya is my favorite restaurant in the neighborhood---and I plan to keep coming here whenever I am in the area!

My favorite sushi spot in David square. Sushi is super fresh the owner and waitstaff are super friendly and helpful! I highly recommend this place to all of my friends before they go out in the area. The sake is also great and if you aren’t sure where to start you can always ask! 5/5 stars

High quality ingredients prepared simply and well.

I went here for lunch. There was no wait and service was excellent. The music put me in mind of a tropical paradise, and the atmosphere was lovely.

I had the genki special roll which was tuna and salmon with caviar on top of a rice roll that was lightly fried. The fried roll was still warm when I got it. The simple flavors married perfectly with the soy sauce and wasabi. The ginger was lightly pickled and not too sweet.

I will definitely be back!

I ordered from Genki Ya, Somerville last week.
Foods are fresh and hot. Sushi is always tasty and appealing. Their curry entree is a must to order. Once you’ve tried it, you’ll be addicted to it. The lady who took my phone order was very polite, patient and can customize my order based on my dietary needs and wants. She is very nice to me and so considerate. Later I found out that she was the manager. I’m so glad the owner who has hired such a wonderful lady working in his restaurant. I’ll start ordering regularly. Keep up the good work.

best thing ive eaten in a long time! (seafood tempura roll with brown rice)

I always get really good quality sushi takeout from here. They have nice outdoor seating set up right now as well. Their 3 roll combo is a great deal. They seem to get pretty busy around dinner time, so the takeout sometimes takes a little bit longer than what's quoted on the ordering site.

This place was absolutely amazing. Our waitress was outstanding: pleasant, helpful, and smiling the whole time. The sushi came after a reasonable prep time and it was easily the best sushi I ever had. My party of four stuffed ourselves with sushi and it was only $120 for sushi and drinks. I’d come back to this place in a heartbeat!

Awesome sushi place, a lot of sushi options. Definitely worth coming back regularly. They are generally super quick at prepping food. They do get busy around dinner time from 6-8 and you may need to wait a little longer, but the food is the best among other restaurants that I have been to and worth your waiting time.

Tried the Tokyo Curry and really enjoyed the dish. Flavors reminiscent of other places' Japanese style Curry, yet with really fresh ingredients and a selection of toppings. (Picked onion, picked veggies, or crispy garlic bits.) Food arrived quickly and service was friendly, but took a while for them to bring the check. Sushi appears to be their other focus and looked like they had a good selection.

Beautiful decor, very relaxing and comfortable. Excellent service, food presentation is gorgeous and seafood quality is excellent. Really impressed with the vegetarian selection, that's very hard to find. The fruit rolls are interesting, not something I would have ever thought of but really delicious. A welcome addition to Davis square.

The last thing we needed in Davis was another sushi place, but this one is quite good! They have a great selection of vegetarian rolls, which my wife liked. I had the eel and avocado roll and a rainbow roll, and both were good! They did a great job designing the space as well.

We regularly order from Genki Ya and they are wonderful! They even customize our order based on some dietary needs. Their sushi is all very tasty, and they have some great vegetarian options. Their curries are also a nice addition on cold winter days when I want something warm in-addition to sushi.

Absolutely loved this place! A friend and I tried it for dinner on Saturday night and it was just lovely. The service was fast and friendly, the host was so kind and friendly, and the food was delicious. I felt the prices were reasonable for what was great portions and very high quality sushi. The inside is also gorgeous! The seats are comfortable and the restaurant is just beautiful looking. You'd never think it was so pretty inside from just looking in from the street. The bar looks super fun and that's where we'll be sitting when we come back!

LOVE this place! The decor is great and the staff are friendly. It's also worth mentioning that every time I've been there I've been greeted upon entry and exit with respect and kindness. One time we even arrived early and they still sat us at the table! This is hands down my favorite sushi place in Davis Square.

Staff were very friendly and professional and the sushi and sashimi tasted fresh. The decorations was very modern as well. They had a relatively diverse choices of sushi and isn't overpriced. The only think I felt was so so was the flying fish nigiri, but the fish was wonderful.
I recommend trying this place.
