A very historic cemetery, on rolling, tree-covered grounds. Established in 1885. It overlooks the French Broad River and contains 87 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds on five terraced levels with more than three miles of roads. Oaks, poplars, evergreens, dogwoods, mimosas, azaleas, rhododendrons, and laurels shade the unusual monuments and mausoleums. Take your time and grab a map at the visitors center nearby.

Really cool cemetery. It has a mix of old and new. They have a cemetery map at the entrance and parking right outside the entrance on the street. We ended up just driving through it and stopping when we wanted to. They have Wolfe and O Henry’s graves marked with a sign across from them.

First time here. Established in 1885 and a beautiful cemetery that is well-maintained with a Lotta history. I did grab a map, but the only problem I had was that there were no markings so you couldn’t tell which road you were actually on to find the actual grave sites. I will probably go again because I was disappointed that I couldn’t see everything.

A must visit. Its odd to have a cemetery in Asheville as a must visit item but our Airbnb host recommended it and I am so pleased that we did as it is most definitely unique. You can drive right in to the Riverside cemetery and follow the google map location. There is limited parking so you may park off the paved path inside the cemetery. The landscape is rolling hills with tons of different trees spread over 87 acres. We read about the cemetery on their website as we walked around. You can also download their self guided tour which lists some famous people that have this cemetery as their final resting place. We enjoyed walking around and pausing to read the stones. There are also a few benches around to sit on. We saw a couple of people lying on the grass but I wouldn’t recommend as I saw a ton of ants. This was a nice and peaceful way to spend an afternoon.

Lovely, well kept resting place, including Thomas Wolfe. Enjoyed walking there and resting under the beautiful trees.

The Montford Park (?) Nearby was especially rude and annoying with their VERY loud and obnoxious music - truly, that was the worst for the experience at the cemetery.

This is one of my favorite places. Riverside was developed in 1885 as a garden resting place. You can take lunch and a blanket smoke a lil appetizer and nobody bothers you. Walking tours are offered. Thomas Wolfe, OHenry, and Vance are a few of the well known persons who lie there. So here’s how I see it. Enjoy.

This is a super pretty cemetery!! Lots of cool trees and old graves. It’s almost as cool as the ones in New Orleans with above-ground graves. :)

If you don't have anything to do, go to Riverside Cemetery. The history, the architect and the rolling hills make it a interesting place to visit. The cemetery provides walking tour maps, at the entrance. It's like going to a museum, so much to learn.

I worked here for a year and loved the staff as well as being surrounded by all the history the place has to offer. Even saw a bear in here a few times too!

Its a large cemetary with lots of old interesting head stone and it is resting place of author Thomas Wolfe. It also is a known spot for paranormal activity

Something about walking through old cemetaries that intrigues me. Reading the head stones, finding
Thomas Wolf's'
resting place. This place tells so much about Asheville.

Beautiful, hilly old cemetery, where Thomas Wolfe, O. Henry, and many soldiers and vets are buried.
