i have delt with numerous officers from this department as my job unfortunately involved a lot of calls to champaign police. in my experience, these deputies, including the dispatchers, are very polite, impartial, and professional. response times may vary as they are sometimes swamped with calls, but they tend to deliver exceptional service. even with regard petty or tedious incidents, they are an invaluable resource to this city. God bless ya'll, stay safe on patrol!

As a 19-year old UIUC student who has a clean record, I can say the officer who stopped me for accidentally blowing a stop sign was very courteous, explained to me the reason for the stop, allowed me to speak and ask questions, and graciously only gave me a warning. I don't know the guy's name (it was dark and those siren lights are bright) but I was glad a guy like him was working for CPD.

Edit: I had a very curtious group of officers that actually wanted to further help me, after an extremely traumatic experience.

Sometimes you just have to keep calling to find the one who cares.
So thank you

Officer badged 702 gave me a big ticket of $164 for improper using cellphone. He did not see me operating a phone, only holding it with the off hand, and just gave me a big ticket. I was watching his car the whole time, did not operating my phone at that time. This kind of improper police behavior should really stop! According to the illinois law, even if no warning is given, first offense is $75, why gave $164 on a person who did what everyone else does on a regular basis just because the officer is bored? Very bad way to treat people and lied about the situation to me. Will see what the Judge say about this, the police cannot just get away with lying.

How many times do my family's cars need to be broken into our stolen from our house, still never found out anything about that crime. Other than doing my own detective work, finding the area where they went joy riding in the nearby park and left it stranded in a field.
No matter what is reported you'll never get answers. I have yet to ever get a follow up on anything we've reported. We let people leave broken down vehicles in their driveway blocking the sidewalk for a month and a half, still no sticker placed on the car. The car is still sitting there. Police drive our street multiple times a day, so how can you not see this car!
So this morning my daughter's car gets broken into, cigarette smoke inside, seat laid back, etc.. do I even bother calling the police? What exactly will they do to help us this time? Frustrated!! As long as they get those speeders on mopeds!

I was robbed at gunpoint and not only did they not make a public report about it, but they also didn’t arrest the person holding a gun to me and my friend because it was their first offense. I also couldn’t get any of my money back and didn’t have a job and it was my birthday money. Very sad that the cops did nothing for our safety.
