We bought a loose diamond somewhere else and got the setting from Payson & Stoughton, I absolutely love the design. They have a huge selection on their website and I found the exact setting I wanted. He fixed the stone to the setting pretty quickly considering it was a custom order.

Wonderful jewelry repair with welcoming and helpful staff. If you are looking for a jeweler/ jewelry repair shop in or around Plattsburgh, this is the only place I would recommend. I look forward to doing more business here.

Best jewelers in town, hands down. I have been bringing my precious jewelry there for many years (30+ years) to be repaired, sized, etc. Their in-house jewelry work, never sent out, is absolutely amazing. I trust them with my fine jewelry without a doubt.

Payson and Stoughton Jewelers was an absolute pleasure to work with when designing my engagement ring with my grandmother's diamonds. We were not easy customers by any means, but Mr. Payson had such patience, talent and the best computer technology to bring our vision to life. He worked off hours to make sure that we had the best possible product done by the time my fiance wanted it. I am in love with my ring and am so glad we decided to do business with Payson and Stoughton! We will be going back!

I had a great time working with Shelly to find the right ring for my Fiancée. I met her at bible study outside and she was very kind and encouraged me to stop by and see her sometime. I'm not the best at writing reviews, but here is how I'll break it down for those reading and interested:

Atmosphere: Shelly's shop was very clean and well lit. She offered coffee and tea for customers while talking with them. It was a warm, cozy and friendly environment. I felt very comfortable there. 5/5

Knowledge: As for education, she knew diamonds inside and out from all of the different questions that I had. She also knew the prices of the diamond market and was able to ball park my costs very closely. She gave me the skills for basic jewelry care and offered for us to stop in anytime for free help. I would also give her a 5/5.

Customer Service: Shelly was kind and friendly every time I came in to see her. As a guy lost in a diamond world, she educated me on the differences in diamonds from quality, size, shape, brilliance and color. She was very patient with me with the number of questions that I had and always tried to work withIN my budget. We even had a couple of customizations based upon what my Fiancée wanted and Shelly did them quickly. I would give her a 5/5.

I would highly recommend the family-owned Payson & Stoughton Jewelers in Plattsburgh. My husband wanted to alter my engagement ring for our 10th wedding anniversary. I found a picture of what I wanted and stopped by the store in early December to inquire. I did not want to go to a large franchised jewelry store, but instead, wanted to find someone who we could trust to make a custom ring and provide the personalized service I remember my parents having 30 years ago. I was delighted to find Mr.Charles Payson. He was very friendly, knowledgeable and detail-oriented. He provided quotes on various options for settings and stones in the store and via email as we live about an hour away.

He patiently sat down with us and used his AMAZING computer program to alter the ring design until I was completely satisfied. He kept me updated via email with various ring renderings and the details. He spent his own time, afterhours, changing the setting of my new ring and was very flexible in answering all our questions. He also shared his personal insights with us regarding the jewelry business. The staff at Payson & Stoughton was extremely professional.

We picked up my new ring this week. He was able to set my stones, polish my two bands and resize bands within our specific time frame. His service was fantastic. My new ring is gorgeous!!! If there is a better jeweler in NY State, I do not know who they are. Charles is a consummate professional, and takes great pride in everything he does. His craftsmanship is second to none; he helped us consider every conceivable option before we settled upon the final design for our engagement ring.

His willingness to go that extra mile was superb, and his patience with us while we "umm'd" and "errr'd" was huge.

It was no surprise that my fiancee cried when she put the ring on her finger for the first time. Indeed, the ring has lead to us hearing many "ooo's" and "ahhh's" among our friends when we showed them his work.

So sad that someone so miserable owns that store. The front end lady, and the husband/repairman are incredible people. That Mrs. Payson though, LOOKOUT. Talk about incredible customer service, YA, RIGHT!! That poor woman out front looked so incredibly uncomfortable when I asked about a return, she looked terrified to even ask the bug eyed ol hag. So sad, seems like such a beautiful store, and great quality pieces also. Im sorry that her name is on the billboard. So sad.

Went in person twice. The older gentleman said he could set the diamond that I bought already. I asked him to order the blank ring. 2 Months later I call and he says come on in. When I get here woman tells me no we don't do that.
Do not recommend

I came in polite and friendly as usual. Woman very rude. She wouldn’t give me her name. She offered me 46% melt down value for my gold.
I replied I appreciate a store turning a profit but could she do a bit better. She said I was arguing and that she was glad I was leaving. Many people start with a small amount of gold to see if the place is for real or just a pawn shop. I was appalled. I’ll go back to Burlington where there is professionalism.

The absolute worse customer service by a lady whom didn’t even give her name with salt and pepper long hair. Rude and they buy gold but shot me down instantly because it was pearls and didn’t say nothing more but a roll of the eyes. Disgusting attitude would never recommend!
