Grand Isle Ferry Dock

Well run ferry with relatively short lines, convenient hours of operation, and staff that move cars quickly and safely. Was able to get a great shot of the sunrise. There is also a lookout area at the top of the ferry. The journey across the lake only takes 10-20 minutes and was a lot of fun!

Representing one of the New York-Vermont routes provided by the Lake Champlain Transportation Company, the Grand Isle Ferry Dock pairs with the Cumberland Head Ferry Dock to form an approximate ten minute path from one state to the other.

I was pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness and organization of the area surrounding the dock, ensuring that the service never deteriorates the natural beauty of the landscape nor becomes too industrial.

The loading and unloading process was simple: members of the ferry crew direct drivers into numbered lanes and board with the wave of a crew member’s hand. On both sides of the ferry, congestion or confusion was nowhere to be found.

For those concerned about sea sickness, the lake was mostly flat and the size of the vessel defeated any rocking that would be felt by smaller boats and the only sensation that could be felt was the light vibration of the ferry underfoot.

Guests have the option to remain in their vehicle and experience the unusual sensation of sitting in a car and watching the landscape move around them, or getting out of their vehicle and climbing a short flight of stairs to an observation deck. However, the decision to remain in the car can sometimes be made for you, depending on where you are directed to park.

The price was reasonable to me, speaking as someone that doesn’t use the ferry frequently and savored the experience as a novelty on a vacation to the area. However, at $11.25, plus $5 per passenger, those that required the use of the ferry more often may be tempted to use the bridge at the north side of the lake. Equally, the cost would have been easier to accept if there was a return ticket, which would be particularly useful for both commuters and vacationers.

Always on time. People collecting the tickets are polite and when getting to the destination, they always wave goodbye.

The last time that I crossed on this ferry, I was going to greet my fiancee at the Burlington Airport. Today, I crossed again with our 35 year old daughter, her first time to cross this lake. We have all been world travelers but this was hers and my first time together on this nostalgic crossing. This place and time are forever in my heart...as long as it lasts.

Not much to say. They load you up and get across the lake. Very efficient. Great views from the ferry.

The wait is minimal and the ride is a nice break to take in the views! Restrooms and an indoor seating area available on the upper deck!

Easy to access and not wait. Pricing is $9 per person. Absolutely worth it depending on distance you safe instead of driving. Friendly staff and safe.

We take this ferry every time we go across the lake to visit family in Plattsburgh, NY. Friendly staff and okay prices. Charge by the person in vehicle. Great views all around across the Lake.

Very convenient short cut across Lake Champlain. We waited in line for about 10 minutes before we drove on to the ferry. Loading all the cars took a few minutes and then we were off for a 15 minute cruise across the lake. A few minutes to unload and we were off.

What a beautiful day for a ferry ride. Always pleasant. Well worth the price to save all that time driving around.

Quick and easy ride across the lake

Nice short ferry ride. I drove from Burlington to get to Plattsburgh, NY at night. Lets say it was a stressful drive to get here because the roads are so dark with many curves

The ferry staff is friendly and professional, and the crossing is quick and smooth. Overall, I highly recommend!

Excellent. Ferry from Grand Island to Plattsburgh N.Y. ,
runs every 15 min. In the summer. Quick, beautiful, great customer service from ticket booth to deck hands loading the lines of cars. Enjoy, get out of car and sit at the above deck for sitting.

I had to take this ferry once a week every week for about 5 months! The people are super friendly and helpful and even though I had to wait most of the time (my timing was always off!) it was never horrible and I always got on the next ferry (please note that these were not during rush hour!)

The ride over the lake was always smooth and had a spectacular view no matter what season it was.

Safe and reliable! Much quicker than taking one of the two bridges available.
