Heidelberg Pastry Shoppe

I recently ordered a birthday cake from Heidelberg Pastry and was blown away by their service and product. The staff provided excellent customer service, ensuring my order was perfect. The cake was delivered on time and exceeded my expectations in both appearance and taste. Highly recommend!

I am of German descent and lived 8 years in Germany as an adult. This is my place for a fix of German food. Particularly dangerous for me are the chocolates and the pastry. They are excellent. My only wish is that I lived closer to it. Please check them out.

This place is a neighborhood classic. They keep the prices low (by Arlington standards) and the decor is awesome "mom's kitchen throwback". May it never, never change. I don't love everything they make, but since they make about 87,000 different things, you can find something. Their emphasis is old style German baking with Christian and Jewish calendar seasonal flourishes. This is, for instance, the first place I ever had a "hot cross bun"-- like in the children's poems. (They had them for Easter). And they have a great sandwich bar where I always get egg salad. The quiches are good too. They have coffee and real German sausages that look delicious too. And a nice seating area in front of a huge window. There's always room. So basically, you could spend all day here eating, drinking coffee, reading, looking out the window, and planning your next meal. That would be a great day. (PS: parking is annoying but do-able)

Another "in the area" stop and immediately excited to go back. Don't let the crowd fool you, look around, grab a number, and order some pastries. It definitely moves quickly even with all the people. We chose a variety of donuts and a few brownies. Since we were sharing the donuts, we split them up to try more. The Boston cream was amazing, but all of them were delicious. I really want to give their sausages a try.

My favorite bakery in the area for over 30 years! Every week we buy the hearty grain breads which are delicious and healthy. Heidelberg is our go to place for holidays, family birthdays and big events-weddings and anniversaries. The large pretzel and cheese dip is required at Super Bowl and fun events. Carla and Wolfgang have loyal employees who give the best customer service while incorporating youth in a wonderful diverse experience.

The best german bread and pastries you can get outside of Schlüchtern-Hutton. I took three bags home with me and I will be back!

If you like a friendly and clean bakery with interior and exterior seating this is a place for you. I visited for the first time last week when looking for a local bakery to get a cake for a dinner I was invited to and wandered into this gem. My first impression was one of appreciation at how fabulously clean this place was.

Walking in I was greeted with a beautiful display and a well lit cafe style seating area, behind it a small retail display with some Euro goods and unique ingredients. Next turning toward the interior of the shop, oh the beautiful displays of sweets, petit fours, marzipan goodies, cookies, cakes, pies and other pastries. Absolutely stunning display. Again the display was complimented by the spotless manner the store was kept.

Here shout out goes to staff, everyone was positively friendly and helpful (thanks to Michelle). All were willing to share their favorite items as suggestions and were so kind in explaining what the different tortes were. I ended up getting a lovely lemon cake that had a bright sunny flavor, that complimented the early dinner theme that day.

Hours are limited to mostly before 6pm so get there early but totally worth a visit. Almost forgot there is a nice outdoor seating area adjacent to the parking lot that would be great to sip a coffee and nosh on a sweet with a friend.

There is a reason this bakery is almost 5 stars! I have tried their breakfast sweets, cakes, and marzipan so far and have been impressed by everything. Excellent selection of sweets and everything is always fresh. Prices are fair for the quality and availability of items. They have breakfast sandwiches and coffee and there is a small seating area near the front door if you are staying a while. Certain items are available prepackaged including cookies, pie, candies, and bread. You can preorder items online if you are hosting an event. Service is quick and the employees are very helpful if you can’t decide what to get. Definitely recommend stopping by for a treat!

It's a great place for shopping and also a great pastry for your birthday and all your friends too. I love all of the cakes.

Last week my family had a family reunion in the Washington, DC area. We rented a beautiful and spacious VRBO home right next door to Heidelberg Pastry Shoppe. That made our stay all the more enjoyable! Every morning we walked over to get a fresh made breakfast sandwich and/or pastries. There were so many luscious choices and the staff was always helpful and patient while we make selections.

While we vacationed there, one of my brothers celebrated his 67th birthday. One of my sisters in law arranged for the pastry shop to make a special order birthday cake for him. The cake was perfect!! It surpassed all our expectations and was delicious to boot! It was in the shape of a toilet paper roll with 12 cupcakes around it. The theme incorporated the poop emoji. We all had such a good laugh and we all enjoyed the delicious cake and cupcakes!!

If you ever find yourselves in the North Arlington area, make a trip to the Heidelberg Pastry Shoppe. You won’t be disappointed!

Been going to this pastry shop and deli since the early 90s. Everything is good. My favorite deli item is the Tarragon chicken salad sandwich. My wife loves the pastries. Highly recommended.

Heidelberg bakery was amazing from start to finish when choosing our wedding cake. Our experience in the shop was very personalized as we were able to try a few cakes in a small setting with their employee, two of our family members, and us. They were knowledgeable and gave great advice without seeming pushy when choosing our wedding flavors and design. The price was reasonable and fair. On our wedding day, the cake arrived flawlessly and was delicious. We will definitely use them again for future events that require any bakery needs.

Heidelberg Pastry Shoppe (& Deli) is the real-honest-to-goodness-deal. So many delicious cookies, cakes, tarts, pies, doughnuts, croissants, turnovers and other pastries as well as REAL bread - YES truly real bread - it's impossible to list them all.

Beautiful birthday cakes baked with love. Colorfully designed cookies. Pretzels both savory and sweet. Delicious German sausages and German delicatessen foods galore. Yes! They make sandwiches too!

Charming area to dine inside. Cute area outside with shade trees and tables topped with umbrellas.

There's also a small market with gourmet German foods, herbs and spices for bread dipping, birthday cards, candles, colorful paper napkins and plates.

While waiting to check out there were German folks in line ahead of me complimenting the staff on their cookies, cakes and sandwiches. Remarking that they "always come here" for the best European baked goods and authentic German-style sandwiches.

And the staff are so nice! Actual smiles and sincere thank yous.

This place is a true treasure. Please support this locally owned family business. You will not be disappointed.

If you must strictly follow a low cal/ low carb diet do NOT come within miles of Heidelberg’s unless you have superhuman willpower! We visited here several times over the course of a multi-day family trip to the DC area. Heidelberg is an absolutely phenomenal old style bakery with everything including breads, cakes, cookies, pastries donuts, etc. They also have some packaged spätzle and other German specialties though we didn’t sample any of them on this trip. To top things off the staff is super friendly even on a crazy busy Saturday morning. Parking lot is a little tight and access can get jammed up if people don’t take a moment to think about letting others in and out. Finding a spot street side may be more to your liking. Parking however really doesn’t matter because the fresh baked goods here are absolutely amazing. Some of the best danish you can imagine. Start with the cheese and the cherry. The hamentashen is superb. Buttery and generous filling. Excellent bagels! When we get back the DC area, Heidelberg Pastry Shop will be on my list of stops for sure. Will try to make myself park far enough away to force a walk and maybe burn a few calories in the bargain though…

I’m going to start with the atmosphere. The people working here are 12/10. Everyone is so kind and you are never waiting. Plenty of room and more than enough options for every tastebud. Can’t beat the prices either.

My husband got the Nutella eclair. He LOVED it. A little too sweet for me but I don’t have a huge sweet tooth. I went with the cheese danish. SO SO GOOD. A subtle hint of cinnamon and I was in heaven.
I love Heidelberg and this really brought it with the authentic feel of a Heidelberg bakery. I will be back. Highly recommend.

Excellent bakery with a wide variety of authentic German cuisine cookies, pastries, deserts, and other food. There are wurst and salads, traditional and custom cakes, and made to order sandwiches and marzipan. The service is fast and the staff is knowledgeable and helpful.

First time visiting this bakery/deli. Place was packed but the service was fast and personable. Bakery goods were really good and reminded us of the bakeries we went to in Germany. The dele was stocked with wursts from our favorite place in Baltimore, Binkerts. Parking is a little small so if you can park close and walk that may help you.

Breads, pastries, and sandwiches are all delicious. Always well staffed and workers are very friendly. Even when really busy you rarely wait more than a couple minutes. Can’t think of another place in Arlington of this quality that is also so reasonably priced.

In addition to visiting Heidelberg Pastry Shoppe on a few occasions to enjoy a special treat for breakfast, I had the pleasure of photographing a wedding that featured a gorgeous vintage-style cake from Heidelberg and it was perfect! I loved the beautiful piping details, with a timeless style that perfectly matched the tone of the wedding day. I highly recommend Heidelberg for all occasions!
