On the Rise Bakery Grandin

We were so impressed with our lunch today!!!!! Delicious Cuban, tomato cheddar soup and maybe the best slice of pizza I have ever had. Wonderful service. Great menu. Soups, salads, hot/cold sandwiches, pizza by the slice, quiche, pastries and bread loaves! I took a rosemary sourdough loaf home with us. We were too excited to eat so I took some photos after.

Amazing sandwiches made with fresh bread baked in house. Lots of local options of meat and many delicious pastries and fresh daily baked loaves to take home! They close at 9-3 thru the week and 9-5 on Saturdays.

Ordered custom blueberry cheesecake for my mom's birthday. They were so friendly and accommodating; answered every question I had with the best attitude and cheerfulness. The cheesecake was Soo Good OMG! They will be my go-to for cakes!

Wonderful! The breakfast pizza is loaded with eggs and toppings and was delicious. The baked goods all looked amazing, the gingerbread cookies were soft and tasty! So happy I finally tried this place, I'll definitely be back.

It was lovely! The croissants have a great chew and the sticky bun was heavenly - there were pecans, so nut allergies beware, but the spices they use are fantastic. The blueberry muffin was soft and delicious!

Walk right in and be greeted by the friendliest guy in town. That’s just the beginning. The food is very fresh and unique. The shop is interesting and full of things to look at while your food is prepared.

Save room for the desserts. How can you resist, they all looked awesome. I got the warmed brownies. Yup they are good.

Really nice little spot in Grandin Village. Small but interesting menu. I've liked everything I've tried. Their breads are very good, and they offer a variety of pastries. The historic Grandin Theater is just a few doors away.

Everything is always fresh. They have more then just baked goods. Amazing spot for breakfast bagels pizzas sandwiches and if they have time they will pretty much make you anything they have in house to your desires.

On the Rise is a small eclectic shop that has survived the pandemic. State mask regulations are still followed. Their gourmet-type food is based on delicious baked goods, unique cafe-type dishes, and tasty brewed coffee, and several types of tea. Unusual cookies and pastries, and enticing flavors of whole loaves of bread are available for purchase. A vintage bread slicer stands next to the bread shelves ready to slice take-out bread loaves. Sprinkled on shelves placed among a half-dozen dining tables are small packages of gourmet teas, hand-made jewelry, novelties, and vintage items - all candidates for instant gifts. The proprietors are incredibly competent and friendly.
Although the shop is handicap accessible, parking is problematic. On-road parking is only on the east side of Grandin Rd. and the south side of Memorial Avenue. These spaces fill quickly. Opposite the Grandin Theater, and between the Roanoke Co-Op and Heights Community Church, off Grandin Rd., is the entrance to a large parking lot. The beginning of the lot, including two prime handicap spots, is designated for the co-op and the church, while general parking, including several handicap spots, is behind the co-op. The recent early Friday afternoon, when I visited the bakery, an attendant was standing near the co-op entrance. He stopped me as I walked from the back parking spaces with a welcome message. The next time I needed parking, I was to ask him about using one of the unfilled spaces closer to the road. There are several conveniently placed crosswalks across Grandin Rd. to where the On the Rise Bakery is located.

Carrot cake and chocolate cream cheese salted caramel brownie were so, so good. The Venetian bread with dinner was excellent too. We live close by but have never been in the store. This will change! Thank you for being so kind to us.

On the Rise is an absolute gem and staple of the Grandin Village. Excellent customer service at all times and super tasty foods. Special applause to the GENIUS scrambled egg pizza and their locally made breads! Keep it up, my favorite local bakery! :)
