Umi Sushi

Wonderful Japanese style eatery (not because it’s sushi but how you sit at the bar, order, get your food). Not big so best for a date night or take out for larger orders. But soooooo fresh. Rice, fish, everything was the best we’ve had in a long time. Pay attention to the hours! Early March was closed Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, open Wednesday on. The Chef is a great guy too. Highly recommend going at least once during your stay. Try the Japanese sodas too. You won’t get a cavity like our homegrown drinks.

Absolutely love their food! Too many repeaters ordering their food. This place will be our rotation! Thank you for our delicious meals.

The owner was very nice and gave us a few samples to try. The Miso soup was wonderful. Everything was fresh and tasted amazing! This is our new favorite sushi spot.

Umi is curating an original sushi experience that will leave your taste buds satisfied, and belly full. Each dish is artfully crafted behind the bar with fresh ingredients. And although the seating inside is limited, don’t be afraid to enjoy the company of your barstool neighbor.

This eatery makes for a great stop after a day at the beach, or perfect for a couple’s date night.

Y’all this is a MUST try!! This small business is the best thing to happen in Yorktown! The owner is so sweet, great company and for once QUALITY sushi!! I would recommend to anyone, it’s imitate with good company, great conversation and AMAZING food! The prices are great as well! If I could give 10 stars I would!! COME VISIT AND DEFINITELY TRY! Umi Sushi is a small establishment with I assume the owner making your dishes. He is very nice and accommodating to your curiosity. He let us try our first lychee and melon soda…and they were delicious that we grabbed some to take home. Our order was kept simple: spicy tuna, salmon, California rolls and shrimp tempura. Everything tasted fresh, even down to the veggies! His eel sauce had a kick to it, which I appreciated because I do not like the overpowering sweetness of other versions of eel sauce. Bringing our leftovers/to go order home, our very picky daughter ate all the California rolls stating they were the best she has had! Will definitely be making this restaurant a staple in our rotation

This place feels like a cozy hole in the wall with a great atmosphere! This place is owned by a lovely couple who make their sushi fresh in front of you. The restaurant is very small, only sitting about six people, but it was absolutely delicious! We would definitely visit again!

We accidentally wandered into Umi Sushi past closing time without realizing it. The owner and chef welcomed us in and treated us to a phenomenal dining experience. The sushi and sashimi was fresh, miso soup was flavorful, and green tea mochi ice cream was the perfect way to round out our meal. Quality of food and service definitely exceeded our expectations and are unbeatable for the price. We were so blessed by the food, but even more so by the kindness and friendliness of the owner.

The chef’s special is delicious. Some of the best Korean/Japanese fare you will find. The owner is kind and professional, and his years of experience shows. If you enjoy sushi, this is where you want to go.

Great sushi at a great price for the area. Owners are incredibly kind and it’s such an intimate atmosphere. Be mindful that it’s just the two of them so they get backed up with orders quickly but they do an amazing job. Definitely worth the wait!

Excellent, high quality sushi. I would eat here again for sure. The fish was fresh, the rice was the correct temperature with the sesame seed mix which is my favorite, the service was excellent and and the sake was great. The restaurant van seat about 8 people, it's very cozy, and they also sell a lot of sake, so it had a neat wine store feel to it. Bright colors combined with ample lighting helps make it a very enjoyable place to dine in.

Great experience at Umi Sushi! As other reviewers have shared, the owners are very nice. They opened this small restaurant after running a restaurant in Hampton, VA for 20 years. The sushi was delicious, drink selection was great, and the location in Yorktown is perfect. There is limited seating inside the restaurant itself (probably 8 chairs at the bar) and pretty great outdoor seating right behind the restaurant. Pricing was reasonable. And, we would return.

Very fresh and tasty sushi. Extremely cute little spot only counter seating but it works. Some of the best rolls I've had on the East coast.

me and my daughter came in to try Uni and some dumplings. there was some issues with his machine and he did not want to send us away without any food so he still made us food without charging us. The owner is very humble and kind. The Uni is very good and will definitely come back again and pay it forward. Everyone please come by and show him some love.

My favorite restaurant on Yorktown beach and probably one of my all-time favorite Sushi restaurants ever. Ingredients are always very fresh, (sometimes even from the owners garden), delicious and high quality. The owners are friendly and sweet, part of the reason I return is due to their great way with all of their customers. You can tell they love what they do by how they interact, often offering great food and drink suggestions. If you get the chance, I highly suggest you visit.

Such fresh, delicious, proper sushi. If you like simple traditional style go here. There are a few other non sushi options that are good too. Bulgogi. If you rather food by the pound save this treasure for someone else
