Make sure to stop here in the morning around 10am to get some fresh ginger cakes. A traditional recipient made the “old way” in a wood-fire oven. When the cakes are warm they fill you up with joy. Limit 6 per person but also under $2 each. Such a great treat to start out your historical day!

The fresh gingerbread cost is 3 for $4! It was delicious and hot with just a touch of crust on it. Oh to die for! The well dressed baker was kind and virtuous. Because it was Christmas time you can get a “fat man” ginger bread man cake which is also delicious. A ten percent discount is added for patriot pass or military. They offered breads and other cookies but we left with a huge bag of gingerbread!

Longtime favourite when we are visiting Williamsburg! When available, the fresh baked ginger cakes can't be beat, however availability varies.

Yummy freshly baked cookies and a small choice of beverages. The bakery is located behind the reproduction of the historic tavern where the intellect and wealthy planned their separation from King George III. It's in the heart of the restored area on Duke of Gloucester and an absolute must visit. The bakery is a hidden treasure so follow your hunger and thirst pains to this historic watering hole. Try one of each homemade cookies. Though the presentation isn't authentic the taste approximates it!!

The ginger cookies are tasty, thick and soft, which are great for dipping into coffee. I, also, tried a blueberry scone that was in the same lovely fashion.

Great place for fantastic baked goods & drinks. Only outdoor seating on benches so be aware. It's also easy to miss so make sure you follow a Colonial Williamsburg map to find it. The small bakery is tucked away off the beaten path, but aren't most great discoveries a bit off your usual course?

Back in the day, you could watch the baked goods being made over the fire in the open oven. Times change, recipes change, menus change, and this is still a place to visit every time we're in CW. Personal favorite - the sweet potato muffin, now that the Shrewsbury Cake has been discontinued. Enjoy!

At the time my husband and I were visiting, this was pretty much the only on- site open for lunch. There were only two restaurants open and there was a long wait. Not wanting to go offsite, we decided to take our chances here. They have cookies, muffins, chips, cold drinks, and small selection of salads and sandwiches. There are a few tables to sit on outside of the bakery, but not enough

One of our favorite places to visit at Williamsburg. A smart spot for a quick snack. Baked good are fresh daily from Williamsburg. My wife loves the ginger cookies. The Williamsburg Ginger Ale is delicious too. Not a huge selection like a formal bakery, but plenty to choose from and it's all good. Great atmosphere and secluded courtyard to snack on purchases.

I love the ginger cakes. Get there early to get the freshest ones. They sell them all day, but at a different location, and they will be in sealed plastic packages. If you get there early, you can get the ones they bake right there in their brick oven, and they will be sold in paper packages or by the dozen.

This place is amazing - make sure you drop by to get a cookie and hot cider! The refillable mugs are a good deal if you plan on staying for more than a day or two, so pick one of them up as well.
The hot cider will warm you as you walk down DOG street during the colder months, and bring back pleasant childhood memories, all while giving you that jolt of energy so desperately needed!
I was pleasantly surprised to see the same gentleman baking cookies that was there 3 years prior - he thanked me for continuing to patronize Colonial Williamsburg, and I told him how much we enjoy visiting and seeing him!

Nice place to grab a quick lunch and get back to colonial Williamsburg.
The ginger cakes are absolutely amazing, especially if you can get them fresh out of the wood fired open hearth oven!

The ginger cakes and spiced cider were super tasty. I highly recommend trying them. They also have good sandwiches available, if you're looking to have a less expensive lunch.

Talked to the Baker. We watched him put ginger cakes in the oven and got fresh ones out of the oven. Delicious! Staff is always extremely friendly and attentive at Raleigh Tavern.

Great little bakery behind the Raleigh tavern. Must see!! We go multiple times whenever in Williamsburg. Get the freshly made ginger cake, made as they were in the 18th century, and get a cold chowning's rootbeer to go with it. It's a tradition in our family.

Came back here since 2016. Ginger cakes always good with Root beer. Stop by between 10:00 and 12:00 to see them baking.
