Small museum with LOTS of information. The two gentlemen working there are a wealth of knowledge and very welcoming. Definitely worth the visit particularly if interested in boat history, but includes a lot more.

The Museum is small; perfect for kids and people who might not want to tour a large historical site. They have a wonderful folk jam that meets weekly in the warmer months.

Small museum, but very interesting. The highlight for us was watching the model ship building process and talking with the staff!

This museum is a hidden gem! We were the only ones in the place most of the time while we were there and the gentleman there was extremely friendly. He explained to us a lot of history of the Chesapeake Bay and Captain John Smith (no, the real one) and Blackbeard and all sorts of other info about the area around Yorktown and the Watermen's history. All of that (and more) is there and scores of model ships that are made in the museum. Also, since I am in the military, I showed him my ID card and got in for free. This was a great experience!

Director of education Mike was a great source of info. Thank you for letting us into the windmill and wood shop. We will definitely be back again soon!

Great little museum of the history of the Yorktown area. First floor viewing only, but full of artifacts. Friendly and courteous staff small admission fee.

My daughter and her troop worked on her eagle project this morning. Oyster castle installation provided by Allied Concrete. She received great support. I appreciate the Waterman's Museum and their dedication to the scout program and community.

Visited it once and didn't realize just how much was there for see. LOTS of history about the local history and the watermen. At least visit it once if you live in the area.
Update: Just visited the museum a few days ago. 5 dollars for an adult, and 4 dollars for a senior. There was work going on so many of the outside exhibits were somewhat blocked. Also I thought, at one point, the upper floor was open to visitors?
It took us less than an hour to go through. I would say, if I had been by myself, it would have taken two hours. But I love to read and also enjoy asking questions from the staff. Gift shop looked nice and I would have bought one or two books if it weren't for the fact I already had the books in question. Also remember that there are seasonal events and sometimes school trips, so it may be busy,
No restrooms on site.

What a wonderful museum! You can tell the curators have put a lot of time into researching the artifacts. If Bruce, the resident model builder is on site, you are in for a treat! Be sure to spend some time chatting with him…very knowledgeable and great stories!

The museum is small but packs a lot in. They have some boats, a tobacco press, and a windmill outside too. If you visit Yorktown, don't miss this gem.

We were spending a couple of days in Yorktown and found this gem on Tripadvisor. The museum is small but inexpensive, and we went through it fairly quickly. The big plus of our visit was when we met Bubba in the ship building shed. He spoke to us about the museum, and about how he got interested in archaeology, which made an impression on my recently graduated 18 year old daughter. We also wandered around the site, saw the little booths near the windmill, and took pictures of the windmill itself. Overall, a very pleasant experience, and Bubba had a lot to do with it. Thanks, Bubba!

Going this weekend excited because I grew up in VA, and I have never been. Plus, it will be fun for the kids and I.

This is a wonderful must see in Yorktown! Alive and well (even expanding), this golden nugget has a plethora of stories and the artifacts and reconstructions, all donated by local families! They tell our local Waterman's story, as well as how they made their living here on our waterways through the ages in an intimate setting like no other nearby museums can offer. The staff and volunteers are so knowledgeable and friendly you won't be disappointed you stopped in! Consider a donation, even a small monetary or an offer to volunteer your time will help to keep this true diamond shining in Yorktown for many years to come!

This little museum was worth visiting. It's not huge or packed with collections, but what is there is highly informative and valuable. I would certainly recommend for those with children or anyone who may not be terribly familiar with the history of Yorktown. The lady working there was very nice and you could tell she was very much into her job there. The only issue I have is that they have a display listing the Treaty of Paris as having taken place in 1793 - it was 1783.
