St. Joseph Cemetery

After my plans to visit the famous cemeteries to practice my photography were crushed due to them being closed, I chose to visit this one as it was close to where I was staying. I was able to park right in front of it on the street since I was there in the morning when the very personable security guard unlocked the gates. I spent about half an hour wandering but cut my visit short when an obviously mentally disturbed dude in a lime green track suit decided to follow me around with his dog on a leash, and everytime I’d go to walk past him he’d stop, place his hand around the muzzle of the poor mutt, and look at me and growl.
The man, not the dog. I took that as my cue to take my handful of pictures and try again another visit when I might be able to talk someone into going with me.

As a first time visitor to the tombs of New Orleans this was a fun place to go walk and see.

Open to public. Safe area. Don’t be scared!

Unbelievably cool

My family plot is in this one Hasselbeck ..

Everyone said we needed to check out the Cemeteries while in New Orleans, so we listened! You can spend about an hour or more in this one and the one across the street. Super cool to see how they bury the dead, even saw a decapitated chicken on a grave which seems to be some sort of voodoo ritual.

Very cool to see a cemetary like this. The only bad point is that the neighbourhoud is not so nice. It was kind of creepy to walk there.

We rented bicycles and busted it to get to this cemetery in time for closing at 3 pm. The other cemeteries we wanted to see were closed. We arrived at 2:40 and were immediately approached by this honking vehicle and extremely rude man. He told us he was locking up. He didn't care what time it was. We were all on HIS schedule apparently. He did not like that I was questioning the early close, nor did the man in the back of the car who rolled down his window and threatened me when I took this photo. #disappointedtourists
