Roots Latin Grill

A couple months ago my wife and I were in Springfield, IL and, just by chance, found Roots Latin Grill. I had the Lomo Saltado for dinner, and it was delicious!

We were back in Springfield recently and had lunch at Roots. We had two cheese Tostones and a beef Tostone for starters. The cheese Tostones were very good, but the beef Tostone was great! For our main courses, we had Pincho (marinated steak, fantastic seasoning, stuck on a skewer, and grilled) and Camarones al Ajillo (garlic shrimp).

Both items were very flavorful and delicious! The servings were generous and ample. Service was excellent.

Lunchtime was not crowded, and we were seated right away. On the other hand, the place fills up for dinner. Get there early for dinner or make a reservation.

The food is excellent, flavorful, and well prepared. We'll be back in Springfield and will definitely head to Roots for a meal. Highly recommended with two thumbs up!!!

My first time in was last September for a friend’s birthday- ordered the Spanish style bruschetta and it was good, but not very filling.
My second time in was last week. We shared the yucca fries with cheese as an appetizer. These were delicious and I preferred them to the steak fries that came with my meal. The spicy blackberry margarita is a fan-fave here for a good reason. This time around I tried the Sandwich de Chola and was not disappointed! Service was great both times. Can’t wait to come back and try something new

Roots is hands down one of THE best places to eat in Springfield. The atmosphere, the service, and the food all deserve a higher rating. If there was an option for a 6 star, this place would have it. The only recommendation I can give is, if you come here, order a steak option and ask for a side of chimichuri. You WON'T be disappointed. Oh, and the bar drinks are wonderful!

Wonderful restaurant with a unique menu for the city. The cocktails were perfectly crafted. I would visit again for a cocktail-only experience. I had the steak skewers with plantain salad and Yuka fries. The steak was cooked spot on and very tender. I agree with other reviews that the chimichurri is a must-pair with the steak. The coconut margarita was also a great compliment to the meal. I recommend the leche cupcake for dessert. Finally, the service was some of the best I have experienced locally. This was my first time visiting but will not be the last.

Guys seriously check this place out. Food was 💥💥💥. Especially the empanadas were to die for. The spicy margarita was incredible and so was the service. Next time your in springfield DO IT!!!

All the other dishes where good but these two are spot on and just what you would expect while eating your way through the capital city of Lima Peru
Drinks are great too.
Staff is always motivated,helpful, and pleasant.
It's a great place to expand your culinary play book. Springfield is lucky to have it.
I've been on three occasions and looking forward to my fourth.

The service was good and the food even better. The steak skewers and Yuma fries were delicious. The piscola cocktail was very good. The dessert was amazing, we had the tres de Leche. This restaurant is a great addition to the Springfield restaurant scene. I will definitely be returning.

Amazing service, great food and drinks, lovely ambiance, and multiple vegan options. The tofu tacos are the best! Love their spicy margaritas. Everything is always so fresh and flavorful. Highly recommend!

I tried the Pork Arepa and Garlic Mushrooms, and both were excellent. The avocado pie is one of a kind. I cannot wait to go back and try more of their many menu options.

This restaurant is so underrated. Everything was delicious and the drinks were flavorful. The waitress was very kind and helped us understand the menu. They have awesome pictures all over the walls. Will definitely be back!

I was thinking just another Mexican place going in and was pleasantly blown away. They're into a larger variety of south American cuisine and it's pretty delicious.
The tostones and empanadas were outstanding, Spanish bruschetta was ridiculously good and the tofu tacos were hands down the best tacos I've ever gotten in this town.
Had some flan for dessert which was outstanding like the rest. Went for lunch also and had an areapas rich ended up being a delicious variation of an open faced sandwich.
The service was outstanding and the price wasn't as high as I thought it would be for this quality of food for lunch but exactly what I expected for dinner prices.
I'm looking forward to going back to try more different things from the menu

We always had homemade empanadas and arepas. I tried these for the first time in Roots. It lived up to the hype. Excellent atmosphere and service. They have beautiful pictures all over the walls that represent their culture.

If you go on a busy day, you may have to wait for a table, so make a reservation before you go.

Amazing. You need to try this restaurant out. Great staff, amazing food, and an unexpected quality in Springfield. My wife and I remarked that it felt like we were in Chicago. Seriously this is a top notch restaurant and we are lucky to have it in Springfield.

First time here and everything was so perfect. Hostess was kind and helpful for our request to sit outside after the rain and brought us a towel to dry our seats. Our server, Kenya was very knowledgeable of the menu and a delight throughout our meal. Great service, delicious, food and I definitely recommend getting a dessert to go if you run out of room like we did! Can't wait to come back and try more cocktails!

Went Oct 2021 and absolutely loved the food and atmosphere! Haven’t been back yet but is on our radar!

We loved the pork Tostones and the Lomo Santado. The pique was really good too. The service and atmosphere were very nice. More people need to check out this place. If you are unsure of a single dish, we recommend the tapas approach!

Excellent food and excellent service. The decor is modern and unique and the food is fresh and has so much flavor. If you’re a vegetarian, they have a ton of options!

We tried pork mofongo, tostones, empanadas and the fried cheese. It was all very tasty and enjoyable! Also the bits of info about the different dishes on the menu was such a cool addition!

My dudes everything is so good here. We drive 1.5 hours to come here because I dream about this food. Tostones are my favorite. The pincho platter is good too. And the yucca fries are oddly addicting. You take a bite of those fries not thinking anything special and then you’re selling your house for more.
