Desoto Falls Picnic Area-DeSoto State Park

I visited this place yesterday with my kids. It was beautiful weather and am awesome location. There is limited parking but they only change by the car and it was $4 to get in. They had two public unisex restrooms but one had a bad lock on the door. Due to the lack of rain, there was very little action with the waterfall but it was still a beautiful area and now I have an excuse to go back later 😁

Definitely a beautiful place. You must do the hike it’s even better.

Great getaway. Better than Disneyworld. It's a relaxing drive; better sunsets; natural waterfalls; gorgeous skylines; winding roads; cozy town; trees. Unbelievable Nature.

Beautiful place for a nice short hike. I decided to take the hike down to the falls basin so I could see the full view of Desoto Falls. It seems like most people go to the main tail to the edge of the falls. However, I found this hike to the basin absolutely gorgeous. Views of the water throughout the hike. It is rocky, though so definitely pack your hiking boots and water!

Awesome. The falls were very cool to look at. Not much water this time of year. Great beach area for children to play. Nice launch for kayaks. Good swimming area below the falls but you have to hike a bit to reach swimming area. Can't wait to go back earlier in the year and fish and swim.

What a wonderful surprise this state park was! When we first arrived in the parking lot I was a bit disappointed when I saw the dam with water flowing over it, thinking that was what they were calling the falls. However, just below were two more tiers of a beautiful waterfall. We were there just after a few days of good rain so there was plenty of water flowing. The dam itself was was beautiful,but was constructed in 1925 by and independent engineer, A.A. Miller. The first hydroelectric dam in North Alabama and supplied electricity to Dekalb County, Alabama. Kayaks were available for rent for the area above the dam, as well as a snack bar. A few families were wading/swimming in the water just below the dam and above the first tier. There was a walkway with stairs to a viewing area for a better perspective of the falls. An added bonus was the front of the stairs down were decorated with beautiful mosaics that included a Joy Muir quote. Beautiful, well-maintained park!

Great waterfall. Try to time your visit for just after a heavy rain. Definitely worth checking out.

Been here many times. Always clean and safe. 4 bucks a carload. Great view of Dam and falls. Swimming and kayaking.

DeSoto Falls was breathtaking even in the midst of a severe drought. The waterfall was down to practically a trickle when compared to normal but the view was still beautiful.

You can go to desoto state park and there ia an overlook right by the parking lot tk get some good views amd pictures of the falls. You van also go to a trail head which will lead you to the base of tne falls

Depending on the water flow it’s somewhere between beautiful and stunning. Certainly worth the time and drive over if you are staying at DeSoto State Park or generally just in the area. I’d be nervous here with a small child, but that would be the only possible negative on the site.

Such a wonderful place for families! Kayaking, swimming, wading, and beautiful waterfalls. Don't miss it!! Especially Fall.

Such a beautiful set of falls and super easy to get to. 4$ for parking but it's worth it. It's probably only .2 miles roundtrip for the overlook and only a flight of stairs. Highly recommend.

This is a wonderful place to visit! Always beautiful and I love hiking down to the hippie hole. A great way to spend a hot day playing in the water. Be careful; the rocks at the hippie hole can and are slippery.

Super relaxing on a perfect Wednesday afternoon!

Absolutely loved this falls. You can drive up to it which makes it unique as many you encounter don't really offer that. That aside when first driving up the falls literally took my breath away, starts out at the dam which is a really nice size with water flowing aplenty. Then flows down to what is a 100ft+ drop into the canyon. It is a beautiful sight to behold. I took someone who had never really seen a waterfall before and she absolutely loved it. The Canyon wall was amazing as we actually got to see someone repelling down the side which was nice. All in all would definitely go back. You can also kayak and swim at the top which is kinda nice. Really clean trail and park. Definitely would recommend.

This is the spot to see the falls without a long hike. Very nice, needs rain to flow good. Swimming area, too. $4 fee

Alabama beauty at its finest. We have seen full flow and today trickling but still beautiful!

It’s amazing to feel the power of the water, and the care been provided to this area, security and different places to sit.
Relaxation sounds like it's been part of this place.
