Absolutely gorgeous. The short path up to the observation deck is fairly easy but also steep. It is paved. The observation deck is wheelchair friendly but again, the path up is fairly steep. It was pretty busy when we went but there was a lot of parking. There was a small museum, a gift shop, and bathrooms. There were park rangers to assist.

It was very foggy at the peak when I visited back in October! Although, I really enjoyed the hike through the fog. I’d love to go back on a clear visibility day. My dog loved the hike as well 🐾🥾🌲

An absolutely wonderful place for an easy hike. Driving the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway to get there was lovely in and of itself, and when you enter the state park (which is FREE), you drive most of the way to the top. They have a nice gift shop, small museum, clean restrooms, and a food area for snacks and drinks. The walking path to the top observation deck is paved, with a moderate incline. We went during a foggy/cloudy day, with low visibility. But it only added to the beauty and mystery. The trails looked like something out of a gothic fairy tale. If I hadn't known I was in North Carolina, I would've thought I was in the Pacific Northwest. A must-see, in any weather.

Beautiful and largely accessible natural wonder. The views are of course magnificent, from the summit and most areas within the park. The museum, concession stand, restrooms, and gift shop are all located right off of the huge parking lot. The viewing platform is a 300-yard walk uphill on a well-paved road. There are many hiking trails, including the Mountain-to-Sea trail. Highly recommended.

Mount Mitchell is a beautiful place where you can hike and enjoy enchanted forest. This place is truly beautiful and I enjoyed hiking here with my husband. It's not a difficult hike but in a few places you will have to climb over big boulders. We were able to see some beautiful birds there.

So glad we made a visit to Mount Mitchell! We drove all the way to the top and started by checking out the observation deck. Stunning 360 views. It’s a very short walk up on a paved path, but on a fairly steep incline.

We then took one of the shorter loop trails and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. Such a beautiful park all around.

Beautiful park. I recommend spending as much time there as you can. If you love to hike, I cannot suggest a better place. There are so many different trails to explore. The drive into the park offers quite a few stops or 'overlooks' for views of these breathtaking mountains. I highly recommend the walk up to the Observation Point. The view from here, the highest point, offers a 360° view of the mountains!

Mount Mitchell State Park, nestled near Asheville, North Carolina, is a dog-friendly haven for nature enthusiasts. This beautiful and largely accessible natural wonder offers magnificent views from both the summit and various park areas.

The convenience of the museum, concession stand, restrooms, and gift shop right off the spacious parking lot enhances the overall experience. The 300-yard uphill walk on a well-paved road leads to a stunning viewing platform. With numerous hiking trails, this park comes highly recommended for a delightful outdoor adventure.

Very cool being almost at the top of the world lol just kidding! Pretty cool park with great views going up a lot of stop off . The bathroom is closed for the season. Do you have a picnic hurry off to the side before you get to the top .

I love the Mountains!! We drove to the Top of Mount Mitchell from Grandfather Mountain. It took almost one and a half hours for almost 50 miles as the speed limit is 35 and winding roads. Very scenic and beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway to Mt. Mitchell. I visited almost the last week of June. Last 3 miles drive to the top was breathtaking. I was driving almost into the clouds. Visibility was almost zero. Couldn't see anything beyond 20 feet. But I really enjoyed the drive. There is an overlook point, but we couldn't see anything as we were in the clouds. This is the highest peak to the east of the Mississippi River. It was quite chilly even though it was a sunny day. Just a little bit disappointed as the Visitor center was closed as I wanted to get Magnet or Souvenir.

Great views, lots of parking, refreshments if you get there in time, and a nice little gift shop. Be sure to check the weather forecast before you go, as it can be quite a temperature change from lower elevations. Dress accordingly!

Breathtaking views and beautiful trails to hike. Restrooms and water points are on top near the observation platform. It's definitely worth visiting!!

Got here around 830am on a weekend and it was empty. When we finished our hike at noon, it was packed. Great park, awesome hiking, but would recommend getting there early!

Bathrooms and parking lots available.

You can park on top and walk up to the look out. Resrooms and shops are CLOSED for the season. Hike trail is long but you can do it. For kids would be hard 6miles each way.

It's worth the drive and the short hike. The paved walkway is steep but doable. Our party included two older adults with knee and back problems, and multiple children and toddlers. Everyone made it up with plenty of energy to spare. The views are amazing! Recommend the short additional hike down the Balsam Nature Trail that comes out either on the paved trail or in the parking lot. The forest is like something out of a story book!

This park is beautiful and the best part besides the view is it smells like Christmas because of all the pines. It's a must see for sure.

What a beautiful stop...it is well worth the trip from anywhere nearby. We stayed in Ashville and took the 1.5hr drive to Mount Mitchell. I had no idea that this is the largest mountain East of the Mississippi. We loved the panoramic views from the top point.Make sure that you bring lunch to have a picnic.

I've enjoyed Mount Mitchell during different months of the year. Due to weather we weren't able to visit during the early spring, but it was great to see all the gorgeous green during my most recent visit in July. The drive up is pretty spectacular and we always enjoy stopping for photos along the way.
The path to the summit can be difficult physically, but there are benches to rest on along the way if necessary.
The restrooms are closed before the park closes, so if you need to go, you don't want to delay. The park closes at 9 during the summer, but the restrooms seemed to close around 7.
I highly recommend the easy hiking path that loops from below the summit to the parking lot. Even if the incline to the summit is difficult, the path isn't bad and is about 20 minutes each way.
It was a great way for my family to spend some time outdoors enjoying the sights and sounds of nature instead of staring at a glowing screen.

The drive to the State Park is a very twisty and scenic. It is a slow go, so enjoy the views! Tower at the summit with maps of which mountains can be seen in the distance facing each direction. A snack bar and small museum near the summit. Very clean restrooms. Tent sites available near the top. Sadly, it rained the day we were there but we managed a few views on the way up.
