Delicious... My omelet was perfect... Bagel was amazing... Like fresh baked bread, light crunch outside, soft inside. Service staff was very friendly and helpful. Ambience was so tranquil and romantic in its old club house feel. Only problem was the price. $20-$40 breakfast omelets.

Wish they were open. I give it 5 stars for all the times I’ve been here as a little girl. I grew up eating here. This was our burger house. No one makes them like the Big 4. Sadly, Covid closed them down and they have not reopened.
This was/is an Old San Franciscan place that old San Franciscan money would socialize, broker deals, enjoy the best burgers, see who’s who or be seen, etc… The live pianist and other instruments added to the class of this place. I always felt like I stepped back in time when I walked into this place. It just felt like home to me.
As of 12/27/2021 they have yet to open. Very sad 😢

This is such a great spot to grab a drink in their lounge or eat a nice steak dinner in the restaurant. Old school style and excellent cocktails

Atmosphere is very conducive to a fabulous and quiet meal. Sophisticated restaurant, no kids please. Staff knowledgeable about menu and pairings. Menu is small so easy to narrow down to a choice. Portions are generous: duck liver mousse appetizer is enough for two! Sour dough bread is outstanding. Kansas City beef was perfect. Wine by the glass list has something for everyone. Second visit here and just great!

Excellent service! We came in with a group of eight and they were very helpful in working it out so there will be a spot where we could all sit together. My Irish coffee was delicious! Very traditional swanky ambiance. Pricey but as expected given the location.

We simply did a Google search and looked for local restaurants to have breakfast. This usually finds a few suitable possibilities but, on this occasion, what a find! Beautifully and tastefully decorated throughout, it's like going back to the beginning of the last century. We were bowled over with the high quality of all we had to eat and this was more than matched with the very high standard of service provided. This wasn't just a good breakfast, it was a whole experience! Thoroughly recommended.

Vintage bar, our go to in Nob Hill. Can take anyone there and they'll enjoy old SF oozing through the experience. Piano player, dark wood, classic menu, great vibe, SF prices, wonderful location come to mind. I love their burger but everything on their classic menu is excellent.

A few friends and I stopped by to have a drink and some food after a conference on Sunday. Very nice atmosphere, very good selection of spirits and beer. The menu is pretty slim but they have a decent variety of traditional "bar" food (burger, chicken sandwich, French dip, fries, etc.)

I got the burger medium well with Swiss cheese and a salad and it was really, really good. I was in the mood for a burger and you could tell they use 93/7 beef. I have walked passed this place many, many times but I will be going back for sure. Kind of pricey ($26 for a burger and salad) but it was my splurge for the weekend so I didn't mind.

Fantastic 'old school' hotel bar. Seating is available in the dining room, at the bar itself or at various small tables dotted around. Recommend choosing tables near the fireplace for an excellent view of the live pianist. Bar menu has a modest choice but the burger is recommended. Limited beer selection, but cocktails are the way to go here.

Great food and drinks with an old timey steak house feel too it. Nice location right at the top of nob hill and close to the hotels up there. Service was friendly and the portions were good. Expensive, but felt like it was worth it for an upscale dinner. Would recommend doing the top of the mark sky bar across the street before or after as well.

What a lovely, lovely place. I wish I could stop in every night! The Piano player is outstanding, steak is tender and delicious, and Martin + staff are welcoming and hospitable. Come here alone or with a group - the ambience will take you back in time. Until next time, Big 4!

A true San Francisco classic.
Elegant, great service - that is old-school, lovely ambiance
and an excellent menu. This is not the calibre restaurant you whip out your iPhone to take pictures of the food. As famous for their brunch as their lunch and their dinner menu. Once, along time ago, my date was not allowed in because he didn't have a tie ... The dress code has changed.

Superb food, superb service. Outstanding ambience. I came back for my fourth visit. It's just my favourite classy go to place for a fantastic dinner. NY strip or 8oz Filet Mignon you will not go wrong. I truly believe currently the best steaks in the world are in NYC and San Francisco, not Cape Town or Johannesburg. The African cows are too lean and dry out unless you're very lucky. This restaurant is chic but friendly, noisy, real, and has a vibe. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly, classy and just great. My current favourite place to grab dinner in this city. Addendum: bread pudding is officially the best in the world. Take it with a scoop of gelato, I was told to do this (😂), and it "knocks it out the park". It truly does.

Classic old world style, stunning ambience, professional wait staff, exceptional service all around. We’ve eaten there countless times and haven’t had a single poor experience. Makes us feel as if we’re members of a private supper club and bar.

Perfect, old school bar and restaurant at the top of Nob Hill. Food is great, menu has few surprises. The service is always outstanding. There is a piano player in the evening to provide a sound track to the parade of hotel guests and locals who've given the staff the night off. Not a bargain but always good value.

I just stayed at the Hotel Huntington for the 1st time.

I started the morning off with breakfast at the Big 4 and ordered a 3 item omelet (bacon, mushroom and cheese) with potatoes and toast.

I can tell you that the omelet and potatoes were fantastic! Maybe my best ever.

Service was friendly and responsive, coffee is good, too. A little pricey but that comes with the location.

I'd come back, just for the breakfast!

I came to Big 4 for drinks and had a great time (can't comment on the food yet). This is one of my favorite places in Nob Hill. Historic, great decor and feel, classy style, live piano music. Great place to wine and dine someone.

The food, service, and atmosphere are all very good. My only complaint is that I wish they would do more to recognize the four San Francisco railroad barons for which the restaurant is named. It is in the hotel on property owned by and named for railroad's Henry Huntington.
