You know the moment you enter this bookstore that it’s the “real thing”. Only book lovers work here, and they’ll help you find the read you’re looking for, or a gift for your niece. If it’s not on their shelves, they’re happy to order. The children’s section will have just the right thing. Outside are the sale books.

This place is a gem. I haven't been in a retail book store for the better part of a decade, and when I wanted to purchase a set of fantasy novels I decided to buy local.

The store is lively and full of energy. The passion for reading is on full display the moment you walk in. The staff are helpful and kind, and the selection is not dissimilar to a good record store, with popular, local, and niche titles to satisfy your cravings.

The specific box set I wanted was not in stock, but they were able to quickly order them in and the price was very good. Book stores are becoming less common, but this one ticks all the boxes and I plan to return often for all of my literary needs.

First time in the store today and the two workers behind the counter were very helpful and friendly.
I really like the selection that they have of some of my favorite authors like Stephen king, Grisham, baldacci and Patterson.
My only critique is that all of the political books tend to be heavily skewed towards leftist ideologies.
I’m not political at all really but I want to read books from both sides.
Other than that I joined the reading club and I’m excited to support this small business

Fantastic book store! Love the way everything is laid out, and their selection is top notch. I don’t even have kids, but the upstairs children’s area was fun to browse with my friend that DOES have kids lol. I live in Florida where books celebrating and educating on diversity are banned. So it was very nice to see them thriving in this store! Loved seeing so many parents buying these diverse books with their kiddos.

We love BPB. Every book shop is different, and what makes Bear Pond stand out is their great selection of both new and used books carefully organized by genre. I always manage to find something I've never even heard of in the non-fiction section, and the deals on remaindered items are also brilliant and very helpful if you're shopping for gifts.

It's also amazing to see how they came back after the July '23 storms with the same charm as before.

My husband and I were just shopping in downtown Montpelier and included a stop at Bear Pond Books, a terrific bookstore with books for kids and adults. It's wonderful to see Bear Pond back in business after the horrendous July floods. We are glad to do our part in helping this business and others that provide so much vitality to Montpelier. Bear Pond has helpful staff who are very responsive. Shopping there is always satisfying!

This place makes you want to read more. They have a huge selection of books and a really cool children's section upstairs. It is amazing how many people come and go to this store. Amazon may have ruined a very good thing in American culture. Love this please.

This locally-owned downtown bookstore is a cornerstone of the Montpelier community. A great selection of the gardening /homesteading books I'm most likely to purchase personally. I also like to stop in here for journals and wall calendars. Welcome back, Bear Pond, after the July 2023 flood! A big community happiness was shared by all.

Best bookstore in Montpelier. I am grateful that they still exist after the flood. Let's all buy our books here to make sure they stay open!

Great selection of new and used books. The bottom floor is dedicated to new books while the top has a variety of used books. Very well organized with friendly and knowledgeable staff. They have lots of cute little gifts scattered throughout the store like blue q socks and trinkets. They also have quite a few unique cards, many designed by local artists. Overall a great little local bookstore.

Great bookstore with a friendly and knowledgeable staff. A joy to browse and find the unexpected. Did a great job rebuilding after the big 2023 Montpelier flood.

The set-up and general vibe of this small independent bookstore feels welcoming and friendly. There aren't many places to sit but I enjoyed perusing the new and used books. I've never been hear before and would definitely go back again. My boyfriend found a book for me here that is perfect book for me to read right now, making it that much more of a special place to me.

Got a couple of good deals - they sell new and used books. The used books that I got were in very good condition. The staff were friendly and I like how they show the staff picks. Would love to spend more time here, they have a wide selection of books of different genres.

Bear Pond is just the best.
Great selection of books, just as importantly, the most amazing staff who provide genuine & caring service.
