I've rarely been as happy with a haircut as I am with Yayoi's. My hair texture is difficult to work with (wavy, coarse, weird growth patterns) and I move around frequently so I typically just take whatever last minute appointment I can get and just wear my hair up a lot. Not anymore! Thank you Yayoi 🌷

Amazing haircut! Yayoi did a really good job listening and styling the haircut. Ambience of the shop is great too. No signs but you will find it next to gracie ji jitsu.

I had the pleasure of getting my hair cut by Naoto, and it was an amazing experience from start to finish. Naoto was professional. He made sure to ask about my hair type, my lifestyle, and my styling preferences before starting the cut.

I had the frozen ice treatment and hair cut. Ricky was very thorough. I have naturally curly and frizzy hair. Plus the perm I did a while ago that damaged my hair, my hair condition was really bad. However, after the treatment, my hair is very smooth now. I can finally use a comb! Ricky also did the hair cut exactly same as the picture I showed him. Not overly short as lots of stylists would do. He is a exceptional designer. I highly recommend him.

Ricky was the craftsman who did the frozen ice straightening on my hair. I can only say it's perfect. I have unruly but thinning hair (the thinning being due to an autoimmune condition). He managed to straighten it without exposing its thinness. I've had Japanese straightening done for over 20 years now and when Reiko from the Grooming Place left, I thought I wouldn't find a replacement. I was wrong. Ricky did a perfect job, taming even a very difficult patch. I left it entirely to him and gave him no instruction except when he asked for it. He is the expert after all, and not me.

P.S. The place is not easy to spot. In fact, we missed it several times as there is no obvious sign, but just a half open door. I came here as the hair salons in SF are still under COVID restrictions. I observed that the salon is clean as the typical Japanese salon is, and felt relatively safe healthwise.

The place is on a relatively quiet street, and the quality/aesthetic of the interior is the best I've seen in a hair salon. Relaxing lo-fi music in the background. I had an amazing experience getting a cut/perm from Keiko, she is very kind, polite, careful, and has great attention to detail.

I've been going to the main branch in SF for the past two years and love not to have to drive up to the city anymore with this new salon! The same stylists from SF travel down here in turn. The salon is just as stylish as the main branch and if anything, more spacious. There's also easy parking right next door by the laundry.

Been going here for more than seven years in both SF and Redwood City locations, super clean and tasteful decoration inside, great service. They used to really serve coffee too before COVID, too bad not anymore.

First thing, there is no name sign outside and so i got confused and had to call to find out where is the entrance. But the service is awesome. My hairstylist couldnt speak english that well but with help from other hair stylist, she understood what i was looking for and did a great job. Definitely recommend this place
