Safeway

Safeways are generally clean, well organized easy to get into and have most of what you want. This particular store also has a friendly casually conversational staff that is not always resident to other stores and makes checkout better. And nice during the holidays. There's also self checkout to expedite. Fresh bakery, donuts, produce a decent wine selection, snacks, deli and it is in a mall area that has some nice restaurants. They're also some gift ideas inside the store and around the mall. Overall I consider this one of the better Safeways in the area.

The gal working late had seen me running full sprint in an attempt to make it here from afar and at exactly midnight (yes, I felt bad and assured her I understood that I did not make it in time..).. Still she found it in her heart - at midnight after what’s presumably a long and exhausting shift, to let me quickly grab my one little super glue.. (which obviously couldn’t wait until morning.. 🤔🤷🏼‍♂).

It’s acts like this which are beyond the call of duty and are inspiring random acts of kindness that give me hope in humanity, even during the harder times.

Store is easy to navigate. I like going to Safeway when I am in a hurry. The self check out is quick, easy, and convenient

This is a pretty nice Safeway. Selection is good, including (important to me) dairy free yogurts, ice creams and cheese products. Staff was pleasant. Parking was easy. Good place to go for grabbing a few groceries in the evening.

Update: They've started closing the entrance by Starbucks at 7pm. If you're going in at night, be sure to park closer to the main entrance.

Nice clean grocery store with some of best cookies you'll ever taste. Wanted to add photos of the cookies. . . Sorry, I ate them before I could capture the image.

I dont live in this area. Im from Sacramento but this one looked nice. Clean. Their bathrooms were in the back in like their stock room which was different for me but they were clean. Cashier was nice. Its safeway so at night theres only 1 lane open lol.

Good sale today! Prime rib $5.99 lb, Pete's ground coffee $6.99 for 10.5 oz, butter regularly $7.99 with coupon $2.99

Took son to buy flowers for his girl friend. Bought 2 good size rose bouquets at a real good unheard price of $12 per dozen . Not too many places that can beat this price .

I'm always happy to shop at Safeway they are perfect and the selection is always excellent I always can find everything that I want it's sort of normal at Safeway healthy atmosphere fresh food.... I think safe to say I'm always happy to shop at Safeway because I always get what I want there and it feels normal good selection

Clean restrooms. Took care of some late night shopping. I'm glad Safeway is back to being open 24hrs.
Wrong Safeway. The Newark location is open until 1am.
Update: Convenience and price are always good at Safeway but it's the staff that always goes above and beyond to help. I have been finding a lot of good deals with the specials. Thanks Again. Safeway Newark is highly recommended.

Quality items.
Never had a complaint.

Open till late. So I'm one of the last customers. (if my wife remembers to buy something that's needed for early morning ... Ofcourse. I am not fond of going out in the middle of the night unless there's a good reason...)

It's the closest grocery store. Sprouts doesn't count because it's not Raley's anymore.

The annoying solicitors ALWAYS post up by the entrance on the right side, so make sure you look at both entrances before you park or they'll try to hustle you.

A very busy store at times. But they do have what you need most of the times. Parking can be difficult at times too, depending on what time you go shopping?

I love this store. The premade foods are super good, and the variety is huge. They have a lot of typical American stuff and a solid selection of all types of food. Club Card deals are so good!!! You can get so many items at a discount if you have a club card.
Unfortunately, their selection for other cultures isn't very diverse, but they still have a really solid selection that is good for basic foods. You can't get more specific items here, which is totally expected (a non-issue). For asian items (including central asia) I would go to a store that specializes in these things, like the 99 Ranch (across the street), Lion Market (these two are good for east/southeast asian items), or Herat Market (for middle eastern). Arteaga's is good for Mexican and South American groceries. My only issue is that the items here are kinda pricey! If you want toothpaste or stuff BESIDES groceries, you should hit up the CVS across the street. I also can't speak on the quality of the seafood department here, but I do know that the fresh food bar here has pretty solid snacks if you're in a rush. Also, we have an Amazon locker named Neil here.

I live in Southern California and have not seen a Safeway grocery before. When I went into the store I noticed that it was exactly like Vons groceries in my area. The two stores must have the same parent company bc I was able use my Vons rewards phn number at Safeway to get discounts.

We went to get some supplies for my son's birthday. I planned to go to Costco afterwards, but I didn't need to because we found everything we wanted there! The customer service was wonderful!

Often come here to get sandwiches when I work in the area.
Pretty much all the Safeway staff is nice.
Carlo usually gets my sandwiches. He is a good guy.

This is one of the better Safeways in the East Bay that caters to the Newark, Ardenwood Fremont, and Union City. Always clean and never too crowded that's it's unbearable but it does get busy right after working hours on weekdays and then the flower section on holidays. For the most part like other Safeways, the items are thoughtfully categorized in appropriate aisles. One thing they can improve is the amount of self checkout lanes but mostly times the lines aren't too bad.
