Krekel's Custard

I'm a big nostalgia guy. This is a great counter service greasy spoon. Crispy juicy burger fresh off the griddle to order. The Elvis (peanut butter cup and banana) shake was great.

This little place rocks. It was slow but consistent with customers coming in and leaving just enough to keep the inside seating area about a quarter full. I ordered a double cheeseburger, onion rings, and LG butterfinger concrete ice cream. The food was great. The history of the business is reason enough for a stop in. The final price was a little high for this style of place at $17.

We were visiting from out of town and wanted a good ole cheeseburger. Krekel’s got real good reviews so we thought we would give them a try. I am real picky about my meats(no pink, I want well done) Burgers were so so good. Onion rings were really good. And they got my burger exactly how I ask, well done!! Definitely would recommend this place. Will be going back later to try the ice cream. Will update on that later.

What can I say, this is a great restaurant with amazing food. I ordered the breaded chicken sandwich and hot fudge brownie treat. Sandwich was great and so was the fudge brownie. Chocolate shake was very tasty. Go for a small because their large is well very large. I really suggest to try the banana split. It was so tasty. Next time I'm going try the floats.

The young girl with braces has the best personality and gives best customer service. My husband and I love her!

I have been to many ice cream shacks/burger and let me tell you…

This may have been one of the best burgers I have ever had. It easily places Top 5 for me. Maybe even Top 3! I grabbed a simple burger with the usual toppings and it was amazing. They are thin patties a la Steak N Shake, but they taste 100x better. For $2 for a simple burger… you really can do no better.

I grabbed a small strawberry ice cream and that was pretty great, too! But why not a perfect 5? Well, the cashier was great at taking the order, but the professionalism of the staff behind the counter was a bit immature. Maybe I am just getting old….

They also have quite a few Decatur locations, one in Pawnee, and one in Mt. Zion you can also visit, if you are never in Springfield, IL.

If you're in town and want burgers and ice cream, you gotta visit Krekel's Custard! Their burgers were delicious and my girls and I loved the concrete mixers and their Waffle Nachos! I honestly didn't know what I was getting myself into when I ordered those, I guess because I was so hungry, yet I wouldn't change a thing! A+ in my book!

Krekel’s comes from a better time. A time where service was friendly, food was wholesome, and a quality burger was as far away as your own neighborhood. The quintessential flat patty burger lives here. You won’t find a better one, and that’s not hyperbole. The fries, the custard, the chili - it’s all serviceable. But don’t mistake the burger for standard midwestern fare - it’s the underground king of burgerkind. You’ll travel far and wide wondering why nothing seems to hold up to the subtle yet mystical power of a Krekel’s double. Do yourself a favor and grab lunch at one of central illinois’ great culinary wonders while it still serves patties from a walkout window.

This is like an old fashioned Steak n Shake but honestly a million times better over. From the old '50s style music to the decor. Had an amazing time and the service was by far superior. Don't be scared of the neighborhood cause you will be miss out on the greastest burger of your life.

Negative reviews look to be from karen's either lying, looking for peak service during a lunch rush, or just bitter and looking to complain. Probably the best smash burger I've ever had, insanely crispy fries, and good service. Krekel's is a must.

Love this place. If you are looking for a "home cooked" style hamburger this is the place you must try. Prices are very reasonable, service was efficient and friendly. A hidden gem in Springfield

Went to dollar general and happened to pass by and I'm sure glad I did! One of the best smashburgers I've ever eaten in my life! The lemon Ice cream is also a must try!

Fantastic old-school style counter-service burger & shake location. Crispy edge thin burgers reminiscent of an older era. Crinkle cut fries that are cooked to a crunchy outside, softer inside delight. Toasty inside in a cooler day with diner style tables & chairs. Friendly service. Only thing that would make it better is bringing back Coke products like in their 80’s vintage photos of locations on the walls.

Tasty burgers in an old school burger stand kind of place. It's a must-have for lunch when we're on the north side of town.
