Left a store an hour away that I thought I'd be buying a guitar from (their website showed a host of guitar I was interested in). Instead, after being totally ignored as a customer, I walked out and headed south.

I knew about Dube's because I'd driven by the store. It's a smaller shop than the one I just left and for some reason, I thought they wouldn't have what I wanted. Boy, was I wrong!!

Two sweet Danelectros sitting on stands and a couple of amps that were what I was looking for in my quest to "electrify" my guitar-playing. Even better, Tom Dube is a genuine guy, someone who doesn't discriminated against guitar players who aren't professional musicians (I am not one of those, for sure). But, I had $600 bucks I was willing to plunk down on a guitar and amp.

Ended up with the Danelectro 59X. What a sweet little guitar! Plays like the Fernandes strat I last owned (Mexican-made in the 1990s) and sold to visit my late son in California.

The Vox was a real surprise. I was in the market for an Orange practice amp, but the Vox is another amazing British amp company. This Valvetronix Vt40+ is an amp that is a practice amp that I'll be able to use when I get ready to gig out in the future.

What I especially liked was Tom saying to me that he had a lesson but to "take my time" and play the guitar through the amp. That's what really sold me, being able to play what I ended up buying.

Would recommend Dube's to anyone looking for a new guitar. Also, thinking about signing up for lessons with Tom in the future.

Dube’s Music is a great treasure. I almost didn’t write this review because I want to keep them to myself. First off Toms a great guitarist- but more over he’s a great musician- passionate- he lives and breaths it. He always has what you need- a range of instruments that are from $$ to $$$$ but the $$ end stuff is still all quality- and fair price across the range. Wait - it gets better-
Dube’s music does their own set ups and repairs “on site” and the turn around time is great- the work is exceptional. Dube’s customized my neck through body Fender tele with two humbuckers in to my own version of the “Frankencaster” ( a-la Steve Morse / Mike Stern) Tom and his technician Dave listened to me- I wanted to take the dual humbucker “tele” away from its relatively narrow range of “shred central” back toward its lipstick “muted boomy twang” and still have the ability to “rock.” I played a little Roy Buchanan and Stern and gave Tom and Dave really wide creative parameters- and all the time they needed. In a 3-4 week period I got back exactly what I wanted plus what is essentially my dream guitar- I have an instrument that covers the gamut from country to Jazz/ Jazz fusion/ to Heavy Metal- and it does it all well- They also reconditioned my vintage Roland twin (which I also bought there) so now in my 5th decade I have a pro rig that was custom built for me. By allowing them freedom in the design / build I gave myself a gift I wasn't expecting- renewed creative freedom. I got exactly what I asked for plus a blank canvas to continue my creative journey. There isn’t another store like it - Thank you Dube’s Matt K- Topsham ME.

Dube's probably has the broadest selection of musical accessories in Maine's southern midcoast / greater Portland area. A must-know music store for the esoteric guitarist.
