Mother of Purl Yarn Shop

I was traveling with my mother, which is the only way I ever visit a yarn store, but this one was great, the lay out, the assistance from the staff.

This shop has it all -- great selection of yarn and supplies, super friendly, helpful and welcoming staff. This is what knitting is all about. You won't want to leave.

Bright airy store with a great selection of local and international yarns in all weights and various price points. Also have patterns, needles by the drawerful and plenty of samples to tempt you into yarns you don‘t know yet. Staff are friendly without being intrusive, and clearly know their stock and their craft.

Expect to spend longer than intended here, you‘ll enjoy the atmosphere :)

I can't express how much I love this store. The ladies who work there are so friendly and helpful. So many wonderful yarns, sustainably produced and beautiful. Here are some things I've made from yarn I obtained there.

Love this yarn shop! Lots of options for different types of beautiful skeins. Love yarn shops, and this is another winner with a good squishy soft option. Customer service is great each time, as well! If you are a beginner go in there and ask questions 🥰💓

What a wonderful shop! Quite a diverse and beautiful selection of yarns. Also helpful are the examples of various designers' work - it shows the drape and pattern that brings the yarn to life.

I was very excited to visit this shop as part of the Maine Yarn Cruise and due to traffic, I was only able to spend 15 minutes!! 😲 Not to worry though, I will be back because the store is so worth it. The selection of yarn, patterns and tools is amazing but my favorite part is the inspiration samples. They had one sweater pattern knit up in at least three different yarns to see the variety you could create - amazing!! This store is only 15 minutes further than my closest store in Maine and it is now my go-to shop! So glad to have discovered it!

The ladies are super nice! Very helpful to first time customers. The store is neat and organized in a way that you can find exactly what you need super fast, or just browse a bit. They've got just about any kind of yarn you can imagine.

A wonderful store for any knitters dream! Delicious yarn, nifty notions, knitting needles, patterns, books and many samples made for inspiration. The best part is the staff. They are experienced, knowledgeable and so ready to help you create your new knitwear. Best shop ever!

The folks at this wonderful store were so kind and supportive, and had all the answers and a huge selection of yarns!

My daughter and I popped in for a quick visit, since I'm an avid crocheter/knitter. The folks at this store had a fantastic selection of needles and crochet hooks (all mine are packed away still) and an even better selection of glorious yarns in every color imaginable. The price ranges are comparable too, with a few beautiful higher end yarns with simply divine hand.
The ladies running the store also set my kiddo up with her first punch card, where you earn $ for your purchases.
Honestly, if you're in Freeport, Maine, it's completely worth a stop in- getting lost in the yarns is truly a delightful experience!

I haven't been in the shop, but I made an online purchase and am beyond thrilled and grateful for the amazing customer service! I ordered one hank on accident, when I needed two. When I realized my mistake, I emailed them and placed an additional order - which they added to my package to ship out together! They were very speedy with shipping and so friendly! If I'm ever in the area, I would love to stop by!

This is a GREAT yarn shop with beautiful yarns and samples of knitted sweaters etc everywhere. I was helped by a GREAT lady that assisted me with my color choices for two sweaters. Since we no longer have any yarn shops near our home, I had not been in a shop for several years so it was a great treat to visit this wonderful shop.

I am doing the Maine Yarn Cruise and rating all the shops on it. This one is, no question, my favorite in the state. Yes, you read that bold statement correctly! Let me tell you why….

First, their selection is large and varied. They have higher end yarns like Malabrigo, but also some simpler yarns like basic lines from Berocco. The colors are so vibrant, and there is such a broad, well stocked selection that you’re definitely going to find the right yarn for your project AND enough skeins of a dye lot to finish it with ease. Not sure what works for you? Trouble choosing colors? Just ask any member of the charming staff and they will support you, with tips, color advice, and guidance. They ensure you leave with exactly what you need to complete the project of your dreams. They don’t stop there though! The selection of notions and tools is solid, and you’ll easily find what you need. They also have reward programs and even take the lead in organizing the Maine Yarn Cruise! Is there anything this shop can’t manage?! Well, maybe crochet, as the owner freely admits that she and her staff are mostly knitters. But that’s minor, and I’ll say that they’re very open minded about new ideas to incorporate crochet in the future. Finally, I’ll say that signing up for their emails is worth it. I did and I’ve had advance sale notice, opportunities for classes with well known designers and more! No question, hands down, best yarn shop in the state!

My friends and I went for the first time. The ladies were very helpful and friendly. I thought the yarn was somewhat pricey. On the other hand it is a higher quality yarn. I would love to go back without covid so you wouldn't feel guilty spending time in there. Only 4 or 5 people allowed at a time.

This a great yarn shop! It's a haul to get there from my location but well worth the trip!! It is near Freeport which in the summer is a huge touristy area so usually only go to store in the off season. Staff is very knowledgeable and willing to answer questions and help pick the right yarns for a project. Visit this shop if you are in Maine, well worth it.

Lovely shop, very well appointed with yarn organized by weight. Tons pattern samples in scrumptious yarns, great looking unique yarn bags. I almost bought one even though I have to many already. Exceedingly friendly, helpful staff.
