Came in for lunch. Service was great and quick. I'm on a quest this summer for the best lobster roll in Bar Harbor (I'm a Mainer and I've had my fair share). This one gets a 10/10. It was a traditional lobster roll with plentiful chunks of meat. Just the right amount of mayo. And the hot dog bun was toasted to perfection. It'll be hard to top. My husband had a fish sandwich and said it was pretty good. We will definitely come back. There was a few other things on the menu that caught our eye

Went on a road trip to Maine and our last stop was Bar Harbor. After a full day at the Acadia Mountains, we came to the Thirsty Whale Tavern and were not disappointment.

-The lobster roll was stuffed and tasted very fresh.
-The fries were nice and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
- Coleslaw 7/10
- Pasta salad was on the sour side due to too much vinegar.

The service was very great. I asked for hot drink options and the server brought me lemon tea and gave me honey as well and made good suggestions for my partner too. She was very attentive and kept checking in on us, made suggestions for good and takeout options.

The atmosphere was nice, it was busy and everyone seemed to be having a great time. All the locals in the area were very welcoming.

Definitely a great place to stop by if you’re in town! They may stay open late but their kitchen does close couple hours earlier so do make sure to call and check that.

We had the chowder which was delicious and we’ve had chowder several places; blackened fish and chips and blackened ceaser salad I started eating and 1/2 way through realized I should have taken a picture.
Food was one of the best places we’ve eaten sat far prices were very reasonable compared to others in the area. We were very pleased.

The hostess here on Saturday was SO sweet. When we first came in, we told her we wanted a table for 2 and I noticed that a window table was about to close out. Since the restaurant wasn’t too busy yet, she let us grab a drink at the bar while that table closed out and got cleaned up. This absolutely made our dinner! It was so nice to be able to watch the street and people watch while we ate. I definitely recommend the black & bleu burger, the blackened haddock sandwich, the trout dip, and the fried clams! Oooh, I can’t forget to mention the chili too, perfectly spicy with the jalapeños in it *chef’s kiss*. The cocktails here are made strong and have great flavors. We got the whale lemon drop, the super nova, the pear cocktail, and a local lager. Our server was a little curt with us, but the restaurant was getting busier throughout our meal so I imagine she had a lot on her plate. Thanks for a good time Thirsty Whale!

Amazing Place. Looks like a hole in the wall. Go inside and nicely renovated. The BEST fried seafood platter, EVER! Coast to coast I have never had such a perfect light breading on the freshest seafood .... Atlantic shrimp, local Clams and sweet Scallops plus Haddock. I was So impressed. Servers were great!
Plus a great variety of cocktails and beers brewed in Maine.

absolutely GOATED 💯 amazing lobster roll, very fresh and tasty. Best chili I’ve ever had in my life. I live 8 hours away but if I had the money time and means I would drive here everyday and eat this meal over and over again. Thirsty Whale, You Rocked My World

I have always been an avid seafood person. And this place didn't disappoint. I started out with the New England Clam Chowder and the flavor was on par. The fish was tender and melted in my mouth. The French fries appeared to be hand cut and were amazing. I had the local Bar Harbor beer. It's great to be up celebrating another National Park , on my bucket list. Thanks for making it a good night , Thirsty Whale.

Thirsty Whale is one of my favorite restaurants in Bar Harbor. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. I ordered lobster bisque that was amazing as well as a haddock taco wrap. Our server was friendly and very helpful despite the restaurant being busy. We were very impressed. The atmosphere was cozy and clean.

The food was so good, my fiancé and I ended up dining here twice. The lobster rolls were stuffed with lobster, the cocktails were delightful, the beer was good, and so were the burgers. This place does get busy because it's so good, so come early or get on the waiting list. The staff were friendly and they took good care of us. Definitely visit this place if you're in Bar Harbor.

Visited the Thirsty Whale for lunch during peak summer tourist season in August. Great experience, got a 4-top table up front. A couple of us got the lobster special for $30 which was a lobster roll & lobster bisque. We're from New England, and I've never seen so much fresh whole claw meat in a lobster roll, it was amazing and the bisque was also on point. I was happy with my blood orange margarita, but the real star of the show was the Super Nova (shown hiding in the middle of the drinks), we would travel back to Bar Harbor for that alone. Great job by the staff and crew, we will be happy to visit in the future!

Lobster rolls were really good, clam chowder soup was very tasty and creamy. It was a busy day but I got seated at the bar right away. Great atmosphere, good food and good customer service. Definitely a must go place to try Lobster rolls after a hike at Acadia national park.

The most bang for your buck in bar harbor. The blackened fish sandwich was delicious and the whale salad was surprisingly fresh for a tavern. My husband got the fish and chips and enjoyed it. If you are looking for a sandwich, definitely come here it's much cheaper than other restaurants in the area and the food is good.

Ended up here after trying to grab lunch at a few spots that ended up being closed for the season. They quickly accommodated us along with our one year old. The staff were phenomenal from our server to the food runner/bus boys. We had lobster rolls, lobster bisque, clam chowder, & the smoked trout dip. Everything was 10 out of 10 - delicious. We can’t wait to stop back in.

Went here a week before memorial day so it wasn’t so busy. We also came in at soon as they open, server was very friendly and attentive. We just ordered a quick bite before we drive home. Lobster roll was great, a lot of meat and tasted very fresh! One of the best I’ve had. Shrimp was also fresh and perfectly cooked. Loved our quick lunch

Cute place with food that was way better than I expected!
The spicy chicken wings were my favorite, and is one of the best I've had.
The other seafood dishes are also great, if you get fried shrimp, not that they're small. You get a lot but it's not a satisfying as the larger ones.
The drinks were also delicious especially the Deep Eddy Sipper.

The best fried fish sandwich I've ever had! The batter wasn't too thick and the fish was still perfectly tender. The seasoning was delicious without overwhelming everything else. The hot chocolate was also delicious. Service was fast and friendly. Cost wasn't bad at all considering the quality of the food. Would highly recommend the blackened haddock sandwich!
