Good Eats…Good Prices!!!
Family owned and yup Family recipes served here. I really enjoyed the Brunswick Stew and the BBQ sandwich with coleslaw is delicious and my favorite, lip smacking good. Excellent, yummy Banana Pudding with Nilla wafers is by far the best!

I usually try to avoid going to restaurants near closing time. But I was starving and pulled in here with 2 mins until closing. I was fully expecting someone to grumpily take my to go order. But it could not have been further from the truth! The young lady was super-friendly and welcomed us to order. Service was awesome.

I ordered the bbq plate with baked beans and potato salad. The photo shows how enormous the serving size is. I ate a ton and still had some left over. The bbq was phenomenal vinegar-based sauce. It was served hot. The sauce was a great mix of tangy vinegar and with I tiny bit of spice. Definitely worth trying. The hush puppies were glorious! Nice and sweet with out being fried into hard chunks like a lot Resturaunt do. Baked beans were nice good too. I love this place and will definitely come back again.

While there I was talking to another customer. He doesn’t really eat fish often but always orders the catfish because “it is the best thing I ever tasted”. So I may try that next time.

Great Eastern North Carolina style BBQ piled high with creamy eastern style slaw on a good sized bun. You could share one of these with someone if you weren't super hungry. The barbecue has a nice flavor where you can taste the smokiness of the meat and the vinegar of the sauce without either one being overpowering. I would definitely recommend trying this place as a great example of Eastern North Carolina BBQ. The dining room is a throwback to the 1970s with plane decor and simple tables. Service was good and prices are reasonable.

Everything is delicious. The hushpuppies are incredible and crispy, the fried catfish is so fresh and not salty, fishy or greasy. The coleslaw is really nice and fresh, not too creamy and has a nice bite from black pepper. The milkshake is more like a frappe than a milkshake ($2.75 for a small), but that might be regional and I'm certainly not complaining

Anytime I come to Allen it’s always been great but the lady attitude today sucks. I love Allen and sons. But today was not today. If she don’t like her job. She should find her something else.

Very good and moist BBQ, not many sauce options but the pork doesn’t need sauce. Hush puppies have good flavor and not too doughy. Baked beans are very tasty. Large portions. Well worth the $$. They do take credit cards. Also, there is a dining room with table service in the back of the building.

Everything I had was delicious. BBQ was on point, with perfect amount of sauce. Hushpuppies are delicious. Highly recommend. I got the small plate and have enough pork for two meals, over 1/2 pound. Definitely one of the top eastern style pork restaurants in the state.

Easily the best BBQ in NC. Consistent high quality BBQ and the fries, hush puppies, and burgers are the best I've ever had.

This was my first visit. The BBQ was very good. It was moist, not dry and seasoned just right. The sides were good. The service was great. I would recommend and plan to visit again.

The barbecue is delicious. Hands down one of the best in the Triangle, if not all of North Carolina. The only problem is how often they run out with so many people ordering huge amounts for house parties. If you’re making a special drive, call ahead or be prepared to feast on their enormous sides alone

You don’t come here dressed to impress. It’s not that kind of place. But if you want authentic pork barbecue and slaw served with typical southern flair. The pork should be smothered with their vinegar based sauce. Then each bite has that tangy taste. The pork has the right amount of seasoning and onions he taste and texture is true to NC Pork barbecue. I’m he slaw is homemade and has awonderful black pepper finish as it clears the palate in route to the tummy. Add this location to your pork barbecue restaurant hopping.

You get so much for your money here! Currently with COVID its to-go only, not a problem at all just call ahead and pick up 😎 of course I dug in as soon as I opened the bag! Next time I'll take a pic! We get cheeseburger steak plates, 2 sides and rolls instead of hushpuppies.

Excellent NC BBQ. Vinegar based sauce. Hand cut fries. If you go for lunch, arrive early. It is a relatively small venue, with only about 10-12 tables. They have a takeout window also.

The takeout portion of Q was large enough for me to get two meals out of it.

I regularly went to the original location off rte 86. It was by far the best pulled pork in the area as it was slow smoked over split hickory. So when I saw the same name on a joint on the 1 near Pittsboro, I had to check it out.

Seems that James Allen sold this location to the Stubbs family when he retired and Stubbs & Son has been operating it since.

I ordered what I usually did at Allen & Son in Chapel Hill: a BBQ sandwich and Yankee tea ( unsweet tea ). It was good. Solid smoky base and classic eastern vinegar sauce. Naturally I got coleslaw on it seems mandatory to me now

The sandwich was very good. Generous serving on a soft bun. I also ordered baked beans which were excellent. The iced tea was welcome on a warm day.

The restaurant gets very busy at lunchtime, so plan accordingly. I recommend this location.

Their barbeque is the best of the best, and so is their slaw, collard greens and Brunswick stew. I have been enjoying this great food for over 40 years! What is really surprising is the fact that lean pulled pork (like they have here) is actually super high in protein , and loaded with other nutrients and with a reasonable fat content (less than 10 grams) per serving.

Great bbq!! Awesomely balanced—not too sweet, too peppery or too vinegary. Hush puppies, sweet potato fries, and French fries are awesome too. Coleslaw is on the peppery side, but some folks love that :). Friendly staff, quickly served and food was hot and fresh—highly recommend!
