All I can say is I am beyond impressed. Vimala herself actually saw to my date and I and made it an exceptional evening. From the delicate and flakey Samosas that I ate too fast to even snap a picture of, the wonderful homemade tea blends, to bar none the best chicken briyani I have ever had and an equally impressive tandoori. Generous portions of wonderful food with an owner that treated us like an old friend. This is the best place I have found in chapel hill.

We were looking for some good vegan options near an art pop up we were coming from in Pittsboro and used the Happy Cow app to find this place. So glad that we did because it was phenomenal!

The menu is really well labeled with gluten free, vegan and vegetarian options. The service and atmosphere were fantastic, as they have indoor and outdoor seating in a quaint courtyard.

The food was delicious and we both loved it! We ordered some desserts to bring home and try because we were so full and really liked all of those as well.

The only complaint is that they are so far from us here in Raleigh. But whenever we're out that way again we will definitely be back to try more of their offerings.

I discovered this restaurant by chance when in Chapel Hill with my daughter. It is a hidden gem - and off the main streets. I can truly say that this was one of the most delicious Indian cuisine meals I have ever had! That is saying something as I am passionate about Indian food and have enjoyed it across several continents.
Every dish was cooked to perfection and I am getting hungry at the thought of the delicious chicken curry - perfect! Succulent - spicy but not too hot.
An experience to be savored and remembered - then repeated!

Not your typical Indian restaurant. Food A+, Atmosphere A+, Service A+. I'm definitely coming back. We had Mysore dosa and Chole Bhature, and it was great 👍 👌.

Vimala's catered a meeting for our mathematics education group. There were a variety of dishes to enjoy, and lots of flavor. My favorites were the VERY crunchy okra and the lacto-fermented pickles, full of complex tastes and bright colors from many vegetables. Now I am craving both delicacies as I am writing this! Thank you for that lovely dinner!

You don't have to know Indian food to recognise the quality that underpins everything Vimala offers at her restaurant. In the last week, I've tried the shrimp and chicken biryanis (delicious, fresh, with enough protein in each serving, including plump, succulent shrimp), meat and vegetable cutlets (have not seen this in many other Indian restaurants - Vimala is constantly changing and adding to her menu), veg kofta (absolutely delicious, with a light gravy that does not need heavy cream or ghee to satisfy), and aloo gobhi (basic Indian "curry" done right).

Vimala's menu is selective and thoughtful, NOT a mish-mash of pre-prepared gravies to which proteins and veg are inauthentically and lazily added. The freshness and quality of her ingredients shines through in her recipes, and the accompaniments (fried onion and curry leaves garnish on the rice, chutneys, homemade pickles, and raita) are not half-heartedly provided or prepared. The fried okra is delicious and very more-ish, and Vimala's pakoras are also an absolute treat, not at all soggy, stale, or bland.

Eating at Vimala's reminds me of eating at all my aunties' houses (well, the ones who were good cooks). It seems to me like Vimala runs her business with her customers, staff, and food uppermost in mind, not profit. There are plenty of other cheaper, identical-to-each-other Indian restaurants from which to choose, but if I want great Indian food made with love and care, that is healthy and true to the spirit of the grand tradition of Indian cuisine, then I'll gladly pay whatever Vimala charges. She knows what she's doing, she cares about what she's doing, and it shows.

The place is little hidden behind another restaurant but a hidden gem. Went for lunch. Ordered chicken curry, Dhal curry, and naan. The server Lamar was nice. They had lots of gluten free options .Food was nicely presented . Food was delish exactly like home cooked meal.
Got to talk to Ms. Vimala, who was very lovely. Found out from her everything is made from scratch. Next time want to try her dosas.
Thank you Ms Vimala for the lovely conversation and chai.

Looks can be deceiving. It’s hidden back behind other buildings. Lots of outdoor seating shared with other restaurants.

No Indian servers but the owners are Indian.

They don’t have “chicken tikka masala” but they have curry chicken which is similar. And it’s delicious. Mix it with the sauce and the rice.

The lassi is made fresh but wasn’t quite enjoyable. Overall a good experience and I’d definitely come back.

Picked this place because the other Indian restaurant wasn’t open at 1:30pm for lunch??

I visited last week with my parents who are raised in Kerala. My parents had such a great time chatting with Vimala who made it a special visit for them. She offered a couple dishes from the menu without us ordering them just for us to try. She made us feel like home and we loved all the food! We will be going back soon :)

100% this restaurant was perfect, My first time trying indian food did not disappoint, i came yesterday with a party of 3, and it is a hidden gem indeed, its secluded in a beautiful area.

Food was bomb, it was finger-licking good, i clean my plate off, the taste from the food felt homemade, this place was absolutely phenomenal, i had the dosa mysore, i did not expect it to be that big when it landed on my plate.

thank you all to the great cooks and everyone who work there, i will be recommending you guys to other people more.

Best Cheese Dosa on earth! Food is excellent, quality of food and freshness is unlike any of the other Desi restaurants in the area and the atmosphere is adorable. The people who work there and Vimala are also absolutely lovely. I drive 35 mins to eat cheese dosa here every chance I get! Well worth it.

I don’t have words. I ordered a Dosa thinking it would maybe be the size of a burrito. When I say it was bigger than the TRAY it came on, I’m not exaggerating (see photo). Beyond that, it was so so good. Everything I had was wonderful. This may be my new favorite place in town. I loved every bite. Also the staff were so amazing and my dog was welcomed in the outdoor courtyard. Overall an A+.

Each and every time I have food from Vimala’s, it is truly amazing. This is a gem in the Triangle. The owners also are so charitable and give to many other good causes. If you haven’t tried it- don’t wait! Go today. 😊

Stop here to satisfy your appam cravings….. The appam with chicken curry and egg masala was very delicious. On the side we ordered Achappam and Banana fritters which was equally delicious. Kudos to Vimala and her staff for serving such mouth watering Kerala cuisine.

Incredible fresh food. Even more incredible outdoor space. The courtyard that this restaurant serves is one of the most charming places I’ve ever seen. Lovely trees, lovely lighting and interesting architecture. We sat there for hours listening to the jazz band and trying out tons of things on the menu. Paneer, eggplant, and the chai were my personal favorites. Easily one of my favorite places.

For anyone looking for authentic Indian Food in Chapel Hill, I strongly recommend giving Vimala's a try. The food is fabulous and the service superb. If you are lucky, you might get to see Auntie Vimala who has a wealth of knowledge in authentic Indian style cooking. My favorite here is their Masala Dosa that is rivaled by no one in North Carolina. In fact, even New Jersey doesn't have Dora's as good as the ones you get at Vimala's.

I strongly recommend everyone give this place a try. You will not be disappointed.

Oh did I mention that they believe in 'farm to table'.

I entered this restaurant thinking I knew everything about beer. Was my face red when they served me a kolsch I was sure was too light colored. Not only was it an excellent kolsch (Mendel's kolsch ale) but the food was amazing. Great service means even handling annoying customers well who think they know everything.
