Great camping and hiking. Wonderful camp hosts, Candy and Kevin, who went above and beyond to help us when we had car trouble (dead battery, low tire pressure). Shout out to Kevin who promptly and capably fixed these issues. He was prepared and knowledgeable. We always enjoy camping here.

Our stay at Black Mountain Campground was one of the best camping trips we've ever had. The campground we originally booked a site with closed unexpectedly and the folks at Black Mountain were so friendly and accommodating. The swimming hole and hiking trails were great, and the camp hosts were all so personable and helpful! Our kids loved making friends in the big field, which was also amazing for stargazing!

This campground is a amazing! The campsites are a good distance from each other and it has easy access to the Mt. Mitchel hike. We also saw 3 bears! Call that a nice wild immersion!

Thank you Kevin and Candie for being such great camp host. Kevin went the extra mile to make sure my cousin and I had a great spot, site 15 was peaceful with the sounds of the creek. The restrooms and showers were clean. Kevin and Candie were attentive, friendly host and checked in on campers to see if they needed anything. The campground is beautiful. Easy access to Mount Mitchell trail head.

Spent a few nights here camping and it was very peaceful, even in the rain. The campsite hosts showers/bathrooms and each campsite has a fire pit to have your own private campfire’s. As always, be aware of bears as they will smell your food from miles away. So, make sure you put away all of your food back into your vehicle to be safe, no one wants to wake up to a black bear rummaging through your belongings. Enjoy the camping! It’s a great place to bring your family.

1 1/2 year update. Came back with my wife, brother and sister and had a great experience again. Very peaceful and calm. Very remote campground in the Pisgah National Forest. Would always recommend to anyone looking to really get away deep into the forest.

Went here for the first time summer 2021 and stayed a week. We loved this place!! Definitely on our list to return to. Facilities were cleaned daily. We had a nice campsite that was right on a field that they had provided some activities ( volleyball net and ball, Cornhole, football etc...) Lawn was well maintained. There were hiking trails not far to go explore one even had a waterfall. There was another waterfall with about a 15drive and a short hike to. Mt. Mitchell was just about a 45min drive. Was a nice little day trip. If needing to purchase ice and firewood I recommend going back to the main road to a little general store. Firewood was $3 cheaper there, and the ice is also a few bucks cheaper. Dog friendly however recommend shoes for your pups if they play hard in the water. One of our boys tore up his pads playing on the rocks.

Stayed here one night, I was going to hike the next day. The owners were very friendly and helpful. They gave me a hiking map and also let me pick out my own site instead of being assigned one. The facilities were very clean, plenty of firewood, and nifty hand pumps every so often around the grounds. Sites were clean and well spaced apart. Also very convenient if you're going to hike since most of the trails start right there in the campground.

I love this place, my grandad came here as a boyscout, my dad came here is a kid, and I've been coming here since birth. I love this place, did I say that already. Things have changed over the years but nothing stays the same. Campground still remains quiet and relaxing. Water is still the coldest I've ever stepped in, and the air just as fresh. Campsites are cozy and clean. Showers are clean and hot. I take my kids here and I hope one day they'll bring theirs.

We had 21 boy scouts and 5 adults that rented 2 group sites. This was truly a great place to stay! The staff were great, very helpful and kind! The shower houses and restrooms were clean and nice. The boys enjoyed the playing field and especially the creek that ran beside our camp. We all had a great time.

My husband and I loved staying here. We reserved Campsite #8 ahead of time, which is just steps from the South Toe River that Black Mountain Campground is situated on. We weren't able to catch any trout but definitely tried! The staff was very friendly. The bathrooms/showers were clean. The picnic table provided at each campsite was also clean (which was impressive because they aren't always in the best condition). We weren't able to hike up to Mount Mitchell, but a nearby camper said it is definitely takes an entire day and it's pretty strenuous. We definitely plan to stay here again!

Great campground with friendly people. No cell but who cares. Trail up to Mt. Mitchell starts here but other beautiful trails in the area.

Absolute favorite grounds of a camping road trip in July. Extended my stay because I didn't want to leave. Hiking is varied but sometimes crowded. I had site #1 which is the closest to the office and has a small path to the river. I spent sunny afternoons wading around and cool mornings exploring the Blue Ridge Parkway. Staff is great, sites well managed with tent pads. Determined to visit again.

It's a great place for hikers. You can hike to Mount Mitchell or to the fire tower on Green Mountain or access the Mountain to Sea trail. Their is also a nature trail, a trail to a waterfall, and two river loops. Difficult to easy, there is something for everybody. There are two campgrounds and a public restroom. Highly recommended.

Amazing campground! Black bears do visit at night so lock all food in the car! You will be fine and safe. Nice hot showers! Nice park manager! Campsite #5 has a nice roaring creek sound that drowns out other camper noises, and is close to the restrooms, perfect.

Good clean campground that is convenient to easy and challenging hikes. Group site is great for multiple families. Grounds staff was friendly and kept a good eye on the place. Plenty for the kids to check out right in the campground. Mt. Mitchell is only a 30-40 min drive up the Parkway.

Close proximity to several trails. Be sure to take the short hike to Setrock Creek Falls. Free maps are available at the office. We stayed at site 8, which was right next to the water supply, a short walk to the restrooms and to river access. We found a couple of good swimming holes, but the water was too cold for us, even in August! Nights are chilly too.

This is the most mystical, magical place on the entire planet. I love this forest and this campground there is no other campground like it anywhere! Allow mother earths mountains to engulf you . .when you are here you are inside her womb. The drive into the camp on 80 is just breathtaking! Clean bathrooms, Friendly helpful awesome staff that stays on site. Excellent hiking right from the campground.refreshing waterfall hike for set rock falls... immerse yourself in the brook find a rock and surrender to the earth! And by the way NO bears yet and ive been here more than once!!! Did I say quiet and peaceful??? Very quiet and peaceful in fact this is the only campground where Ive been to where all campers respect the earth and forest! This is a campground for real nature lovers!
