Challenging short hike to the observation point, but not very crowded and some lovely contrast to the other hikes in the area. Bug free mostly since there isn’t a water source!

Earlier this week I hiked the Arbaney Kittle Trailhead. I took Highway 82 from Basalt and turned on Bishop Road and then turned left and followed the signs to the parking lot next to the trailhead. On a weekday by 11am, the dirt parking lot was starting to get full, so prepare to get there early on the weekends.

The Arbaney Kittle trail is a 1.75 mile steep incline hike which takes you approximately 1,800 feet up to a viewpoint (see my pictures for the view). After stopping for pictures at the viewpoint, we then climbed back down the 1.75 mile dirt and rock trail to get back to the car.

I would highly recommend this hike for experienced hikers. I found great use of my hiking poles, so bring them if you have them!

Gorgeous view. Very tough climb for the first 45 minutes. But definitely worth the effort!

Great hike from Basalt. Nice incline if you are in need of a thigh burn. Very rewarding view of the valley and mountain range. Seems like you can see the entire Roaring Fork Valley from up there.

What an amazing find! Very steep but amazing views at the top. You can go out and back on the main trail or start to the left from the parking lot (labeled by one metal pole) and hike straight up and around and then down the main trail. Steep! Snow chains or spikes for your shoes and poles a must if you have bad knees. Met a very nice local woman who showed me the ropes! Thank you!!!

Albany Kittle is a somewhat demanding uphill with great views at the top and during the descent. There are opportunities for side loops and a lovely maze at the top. A favorite among dog walkers, it's a great place to run your pups off-leash. Ample parking and poop bags are available at the base. Pack it out!
