My son really wanted to go to the aquarium, but it was completely booked up all weekend so we ended up at Reed Keepers Aquarium shop instead and my son was so happy to see all the fish! They have some really beautiful selections and some of the largest fish we've seen at any shop before! Most shops only sell baby fish, but not here!

Owner is very knowledgeable about the fish and plants he sells and all devices to make your tanks run smoothly for optical performance, and if you do have a problem he can help you minimize any loss while bringing your tank back to full health. He has many years in this business and that's why he is #1.

Top tier guys at this store. The young man who was there was exceptionally knowledgable and, upon my first visit, was responsive when I asked "got anything cool to know about?" The owner showed up while I was checking things out and addressed the price of some really nice corals that he priced really competitively and I think I have found my new regular coral spot. I live in Durham, NC so I will drive past two LFS to come here due to the service and quality. Top notch experience guys.

I have been in reef store from Raleigh and Durham, how this store is different than other commercial store
Owner Bill is very knowledgeable and also give you opportunity to shop and ask question as you directly speaking with the owner
So about the difference, this store doesn’t carry lots of small frag, instead it has lots of colonies, however the priced of the colonies are very competitive to any other frag, so basically with little higher price you are getting the entire colony.
The colonies of corals are amazing and very healthy , usually you can see 5 to 10 such colonies in one single store but Reef Keepers Aquarium has 50+ at a time I visited, may be more
The store display tanks are jam packed with coral and look like coral forest and not some fancy frag show, it’s treat just to visit the store and watch the dense coral tank , feels like real underwater
The store has many rare corals/fish/ invertebrates, everything may not be visible , you just need to ask the owner
It has nice fish collection also , for first time I see Gem Tang in store display to sell, some other rare fish like Majestic angle, dogface etc, I didn’t focus much on the fish tanks but its also fully stocked

Amazing Store. This is my 5th time driving 45 minutes to them and I am finally remembering to write this. The advice has always been solid and the owner, Bill is a walking encyclopedia of knowledge about reef keeping that you would be hard pressed to find a comparable source elsewhere. On top of that they way they source their fish and the ethics they do business with are second to none. Today we got a Queen Angel, a Hawaiian Black Trigger, & a Bariene Tang and I can honestly say they are the best looking fish I have seen in the last 10 years easy. Where other stores sell sick fish these guys take the time to source them direct, and ensure they are healthy prior to sell, The end result is you get a fish that lives its FULL LIFESPAN and not 8 months like most other store's fish do.

Simply put, I have been in the aquarium hobby over 20 years and I will say this: IF YOU GO ANYWHERE ELSE FOR FISH YOU ARE WASTING YOUR MONEY.

Are they a bit more expensive? Yes, but you get what you pay for. In this case that extra gets you a quality happy fish. The drive is worth every minute and the fish are worth every penny he charges. Save yourself the trouble of messing with other places and go here from the start. Its worth it by far!

Bill has been at this for a minute so he knows his stuff. At some point you have to acknowledge you do actually get what you pay for. Buy local!

I had an awesome experience the other day when I went in and bought 2 anglefish from them, very professional about the care of the fish and correct packaging so they have a safe and less stressful ride to their new home..Well worth the drive down there and when I get ready for a coral expansion, I'll be going there instead of the Fishroom..

I just started back after a 10 year hiatus and I’m glad I remembered where to find the best aquatic life I have run across in my journey. Worth a days trip just to buy fish from “Bill”! Why? Because the owner genuinely knows what the hell he is doing and he cares. He is not a fish flipper. He brings in the best stock, from the best sources and the livestock is evidence of this philosophy. He is not going to sell you the BS that other shops will try to pawn off. 100% recommend visiting Bill and The Reef Keepers. -Ron

Wow! Very knowledgeable staff. Explained so much about reef keeping. Oh course, i spent more than I intended to. Selection of corals and fish was great.
If you have a big aquarium, this is definitely the place for you.
Had some big fish and I loved watching feeding.
I Will definitely go back.
Just tell the owner to be straight up with you about what tank u have and the inhabitants and your maintenance.
Feelings may get hurt a little, but reefing is on-going and things change quickly!

Went in with my family just to scope out the selection, and they had a lot of really great fish that appeared quite healthy. The large open tank in the front of the store is fun to observe as well. My toddler son got a big kick out of looking at everything. The guy I'm assuming is the owner seemed very knowledgeable, though not exactly what you would describe as warm. My shrieking toddler may have had something to do with that, though.

Visited the store for the first time a couple of weeks ago based on the recommendation from a trusted source. I was absolutely blown away with the selection, quality of the stock, and the knowledgeable staff. I think I've found my new LFS, even though it means a 45 minute drive to get there.

I do not do a lot of reviews so if I do one, know that mean this establishment really made an impression. Reef keepers is by far my favorite saltwater reef store, they are a bit of a drive from Raleigh but so very worth it -- and if you are into this hobby or thinking about starting I highly recommend you take a trip out there to talk to these guys.

Now I am a biologist & chemist by degree but this is my first time setting up and maintaining a tank since my college years... talking to the owner he not only does gives you the answers but he also gives you the reasoning behind them- showing that he not only has a vast experience but he understands each facet of his craft.

For me the science behind it totally clicked and it made the light come on as to why water parameters are so crucial for these delicate creatures. Plus they recommended reference information that for me - has made me learn more than the web ever could.

Now some people are going to look at his prices, but here is the thing - everything we have purchased has been a high quality item and a few things I got from other area stores, well I really wished I had waited and got a quality item from reef keepers... the owner is very open about his merchandise and he will tell you if it's a run of the mill or high quality that will last the life of your tank. And if he doesn't have something he will tell you how to get it and what a fair price would be as well.

The fish - healthy and happy, our two little clowns are great eaters already coming right to us at food time, our goby and pistol shrimp are cohabiting as they should and the pistol shrimp is the most active thing (thanks for the recommendation on that one) and so fun to watch him dozer his way around the tank.

The same can be said for his inverts, our
nessarius snails are plump healthy guys as well as the trochus snails and hermit crabs- with my blue lighting still my favorite.

If nothing else- I hope my review will encourage someone to visit his store, I am still reading and learning but I feel lucky to have the information that I have acquired from Reef Keepers - and that is something money just cannot buy.

Great guy, amazing customer service! Very passionate about his business and extremely knowledgeable. He is more than happy to share any tips and tricks to having a healthy aquarium. His selection is outstanding! Can’t find half of his stuff anywhere else. We drove 40 mins just to come here because you just can’t find his selection anywhere else.

The store is great and there is so much to see. There is a great variety of fish and coral. My husband got his dream coral lol bright lime green carpet nem. Totally worth the 2 hour drive! He has taken us on several fish store trips and this was the nicest by far! You can tell everything is taken care of well! Wish it was closer but we will definitely be back! Also the staff was super nice and knowledgeable ( we learned some new things today) !

Stopped in to check out the store on a visit to Clayton. The young man working was super helpful and answered our questions even though we weren't local and just browsing. Great variety of marine fish and tremendous selection of corals! Would definitely recommend and would shop here for my aquarium needs if we lived closer. Thanks!

This is the best place in the area to get high-end coral. The owner has an immense amount of knowledge and experience - the prices at first glance may seem higher, but he doesn't specialize in $10 frags - although there are plenty of frags to choose from, his plates and complete colonies are just breathtaking and the prices are reasonable for the size and quality so it's hard to walk away with a tiny frag when you can have a massive colony instead. In regards to livestock (fish, inverts, etc) he will have things you won't find anywhere else. When he gets in live rock it's absolutely the most top-notch stuff you will find, but it sells quickly due to high demand so it's best to contact him and see what he has in the pipeline.

Solid, unfiltered advice about saltwater aquariums and corals. Went last night to take advantage of a sale and ended up spending almost 2 hours looking at the amazing selection, but mostly talking with the owner about tanks and marine life. We're new to the hobby and we really appreciate his experience and honest, unfiltered information.
