Southern Seaplane

This was such a great experience. All the instructors were great, the DPE was very fair, and Lacey was great and easy to work with, especially when it came to getting all of my GI Bill items squared away. I got the course done in 2 days with plenty of time to study built in. Could not recommend more!

I enrolled for the SES and MES Combo on super short notice and I got what was promised and even more! The entire experience was truly amazing and wonderful. The team was patient, understanding, and worked round-the-clock to ensure I was able to complete both ratings in just 8 days!

I highly recommend Southern Seaplanes if you want to get your seaplane ratings whilst having a ton of fun!

What an awesome aviation company! I just wrapped up the SES/MES course over four days, and it was such a fun experience. Easy and accommodating scheduling, seem-less GI Bill enrollment and billing, fantastic and informative instruction, and fair checkrides! I had such a blast, and I wouldn’t hesitate recommending this business to anyone.

Overall, I give my experience with Southern Seaplane, Inc. Seaplane Safety Institute a 5 out of 5. I could not have asked for a more friendly welcome, hospitality, and very experienced, great instructors. This is the type of atmosphere and training I’ve been searching for after dealing with so many inexperienced primary instructors who were just looking to get their hours and leave. With so much experience, I was happy to actually have a few instructors while here, all who I learned many new things from. The ambiance of the multi-generational family business is something you don’t find much anymore. Southern has been in business since 1954. They have had to evolve a lot since then and it was a pleasure to listen to all the stories. That also meant training was based on almost 70 years of experience just within the family business, more when you add the years and time of individual instructors. While everyone may not officially be family, you could see everyone, from the linemen to the maintenance staff, were treated as so. Being able to stay in the bunkhouse made me feel a part of it also. Plus it was like living on my own airport after everyone left for the day. I had everything I needed with the kitchen, full bath, and time to explore and enjoy my surroundings. Besides all the great things I learned with training, I was interested to see how the course was tailored to the individual, including the ground portion being specific to aircraft type, float brand, and float configuration (straight or amphib). I can’t recommend this training along with the underwater egress portion enough.

I myself think I’ve found the place I’ll go back to for commercial. Thanks so much for the great experience Lacey and Southern Seaplane!

I can't say enough good things about the staff and operation at Southern Seaplane. I did my commercial SES add-on here and everyone was courteous, professional, and yet somehow laid-back and inviting at the same time. I've done several short bush/sea training courses like this one before (including two in Alaska), and the Southern experience was my favorite by far. I'm already starting to plan my next trip back to fly with them again.

Southern did an amazing job for me. intense and informative. i love the high pace and high attention to detail and safety. I traveled half way across the us to come to southern for my training cause it came highly recommended to others in the sea plane industry.

Nicely timed aerial tour of the Delta and area. Pleasant staff and decent equipment. Got some great pictures!

We booked a flight the night before for a 30 minute tour. We arrived a little early, but we were quickly checked in and met by our pilot Rob. We took off from the adjacent canal and followed the Mississippi to New Orleans where he pointed out the major sites, including Algiers Point where we were staying. Then he took us south over the wetlands and did a touch-and-go on a big lake. Then we completed the loop over cypress forests for a perfect water landing. This is not a Delta flight, this is a working seaplane. I would do it again.

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The price was very fair and definitely worth it. Our pilot was very welcoming and made the tour very interesting by pointing out landmarks, points of interests, and some of the history of the area. I will definitely go again if I am in the area.

Absolutely fantastic experience with Nico! Highly recommend. Can’t wait to come back and learn to fly a seaplane!

Southern Seaplane is an awesome company and the pilots are very nice and accommodating.
We had a great time fishing! We will back next year for sure.

Just finished my commercial seaplane add-on this weekend. Great pilots and staff. Worth every dime. Worth the travel ! You will feel welcome and definitely learn what you went there for!!

Unbelievable time fishing with southern sea plane. The pilots were beyond accommodating and professional, will return to fish and would highly recommend to anybody.

Had a great experience with Rob! Took off from the canal and did a touch n go on the lake. He was very friendly and informative, learned a lot and had beautiful weather!

We took the NO Bayou Tour, and it was worth it, thanks to Lacy. I love the seaplane. We will do it again when we will be in NO, for sure.

The owner is very professional, nice and caring. It was amazing experience for me. They delivered their service on the timeframe as promised. Highly recommended!!!

Great plane ride over New Orleans marshes

I just had the best experience with this place. I've lived here almost my entire life and never knew it existed. This place is great. You gotta try it!

If you come down New Orleans. This should definitely be on your bucket list!
