Gallina Pizza

A piece of Italy perfectly spotted in the heart of the state capital!! Sandwiches, amazing. Pizza, awesome. Looking for homemade pasta? Spaghetti and meatballs? Yes they have it all! Huge menu, beautiful restaurant! Very colorful. Grab a slice with a beer, do some gambling on the machines, have a kids birthday, they literally check all the boxes!! The owner is exceptionally nice and you can tell the love they put into the place for decades!!

We had a family special, which is advertised for $18.95 on their napkin holders but it must be advertised at $24.95 somewhere else because that is what we were charged. We ordered a large pepperoni, large ham/pineapple, a 2L of Coke, a 6 pack of beer, 2 Snapples, and a large sausage/green pepper calzone = $100.

Not the best lighting but like others said, it seems to be a small mom/pop shop that has been there since 1978.

A definite must stop if you are in the area.

It’s humorous reading some of the other reviews because some of the family members do NOT have the best people skills… smiles are sometimes hard to come by and communication isn’t always easy, but we found this to be the same in Italy.
Their food is pretty authentic; much of it their own family recipes. The excellent sandwich bread is made in house, as is of course, the pizza dough and all their recipes. This last trip I had a plate sized Italian beef with peppers and cheese, yum! All has been great in our experiences, the pizza is wonderful! Everything we’ve had there has been good- their Italian cookies, warmed in the oven, are great, Salads are fresh and crunchy. Many different types of fountain/canned and bottled drinks are available.
It’s just a typical city pizza and sandwich place and the atmosphere shows it, but it’s clean enough, feels historic, and we enjoy talking with the Gallina’s. Don’t miss this little bit of history in Springfield, it’s Italian!

Incredible authentic Italian sandwiches that were huge. This is a family pizza place not fancy lots of pizza lovers with kids. Grampa cooks in kitchen, Gramma takes food to customers. The food was super. The place has old style Italian charm with pictures of Italy and a take out decor. Comfy diner booths.

Was visiting over the weekend and someone recommended this place to us. Glad they did. It’s a cute family owned place with great pizza and calzone along with a variety of other popular Italian dishes. Everyone enjoyed their food. Will definitely be back next year if we come to Springfield for state.

I wanted to give this place as many stars as possible. The food was that good!! The atmosphere could have been better. Kids screaming almost the entire time we were having dinner. Kids will be kids, but the language was shocking.

We had the specialty supreme pizza, and it was truly one of the best tasting, traditional style pizzas I have ever had. The guys cooking in the kitchen were, or came off as, true Italians…I am sure they were. I definitely feel like this pizza would be good delivered, but may have been somewhat soggy due to the amount of toppings. Completely worth the $$ and wish we lived closer so we could eat it more often.

Cannolis for desert, not that we had room to eat them, but could not turn them down because they tasted so good.

We took half the medium pizza home with us. So good. If you are in the mood for pizza, this is hands down the best one to pick. Sorry no pics.

This is a self serve place so service depends on you :) Pizza is good, side salad was ok but I wouldn’t expect great salad from pizza place any way. Chocolate chip cookies I would pass - they felt too dry and crumbly to my taste.

Had a calzone, it was very tasty the cheese was out of this world soo good melted inside..that’s what I call pure cheese. Will definitely come back on my next visit to springfield.

I've been here numerous times over the past couple of decades. Sometimes with a couple of friends, sometimes for family get-togethers, and sometimes for parties. It is always a nice time. Food is great, environment is relaxed, and employees are always really nice. Highly recommended place for great Italian food and desserts.

I ordered delivery the person over the phone was very helpful and quick to help me with my order. My family and I had a lot on our order and they said it would be an hour. Our food within 30-40 minutes and the order was completely accurate and beyond what I expected. Everything tasted amazing. I would highly recommend it to anyone thinking of trying it! We’ll be trying it again in the future!

We ordered the special pizza and a lasagna dinner because we were overwhelmed by the amazing smells and choices as we walked in. They were both fantastic and definitely home made. We were impressed by the family run restaurant and the work ethic and skills displayed by even the younger members behind the counter. Their kindness and knowledge of a homeless man who came in and ordered while we were there was beautiful. We will definitely be back while we are in town and will recommend this restaurant to all of our friends.

This pizza is excellent.The crust was the best I’ve had. Not soggy or doughy but with a good crunch to it. I think this must be a family owned place which is.The people were super nice.

I'm from Chicago, currently live in Peoria, and this is THE BEST Italian joint Ive had in the state. I knew the second I heard the employees speaking Italian that I was in for a treat. I ordered the calzone, it comes with mozza AND ricotta which is nice because it balances out the saltiness of the meats. I appreciated the grab-n-go 6 pack fridge as well. Tip these folks well, they are doing an amazing job!

Came here to take out for the first time. Ordered spaghetti w/meatballs and stuffed shells. Good service and excellent quality. Especially like the bread loaf that came with each. Desserts of Tiramisu and chocolate cake topped off the dinner.

What real pizza should taste like!!! This place blew our socks off! For $20 we got the family meal deal - large 16 inch (more like an extra large, it's HUGE!), super large salad that could easily feed 4+ people and a pitcher or 2 liter of soda. This was split between 4 people and brought half the pizza home! So much food for the money plus it's GOOD!! Highly recommend their sausage as a topping. Amazing Italian sausage in crumbles! Atmosphere is great! Reminds me of a 70-80's pizzeria

Wow. I can’t remember the last time I had pizza this good. The environment feels like a time capsule and the food is absolutely to die for. I will be back!

I have eaten here twice, once in 2009 and once in 2016. Why am I reviewing the place in 2023? Because I was thinking today about how much I liked the food and atmosphere and how much I would like to go back. Alas, I live in the western United States, but I hope to go back to Gallina's someday.

The service was awesome, the man who took my order was so very helpful. Pizza was very tasty. I was really impressed with the service. We had a large order and not 1 thing was missing. Garlic knots are a definite must try. I will be back again next time I cone to Springfield.

I got the Stuffed Shells and a Chocolate Chip Cookie. So these shells were amazing and the cheese on top was so delicious and stringy. The filling was so creamy and flavorful, everything was perfect. THIS was the BEST CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE I have ever eaten IN MY LIFE. It was undercooked so it was still a lot like cookie dough and the edges were crispy and it was amazing. I was originally the only one that bought one and I almost died and so literally everyone in our group bought one and I got another one. They were so delicious i’ve had dreams of them. So if you are ever in SpringField, GO!

Real deal real good pizza! Crust was perfect texture, very tasty. Every other ingredient (sausage, pepperoni, mushroom, and onion) was delicious. But the star by far was the great tasting sausage! Worth the hour plus drive to get here. Plan to return soon.
