Bay Grape is my absolute favorite wine shop in Oakland! Not pretentious or stuffy with friendly staff- I often go in with a meal I’m planning to cook in mind and they provide excellent recommendations. No, this isn’t a natural wine shop, but they thoughtfully source their wine from fantastic wine producers. This brings bottles and varieties you wouldn’t be able to find anywhere else. The ambience inside is also so cozy and inviting. You can grab a charcuterie selection from the cold case and share a bottle with a friend for a very small corkage fee (I think $5) or just grab some wine to go. The owners are a wonderful husband and wife duo who care deeply about their community. Go check it out!

super chill place to have some great natural wines. friendly staff and very helpful! they also also have a nice selection of craft beers. extremely reasonable 5 dollar corkage fee for wine and none for beer.

Bay Grape is a delight. Awesome selection of wines, and as a member of their wine club, I am introduced to new wines regularly with a free flight monthly at the counter. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Please spend some money here if you like good wine.

Amazing experience! Matt was really nice and it made my experience even better. I loved that he was fine with making selections for me. He was awesome! He gave me suggestions on what to purchase and what to try. I think it is also great you can add a certain amount to the price of a bottle and drink as much of it as you want! I wish I was able to go back before I leave.

Bay Grape has a great atmosphere, beautiful bar/seating area, and unique selection. The team is knowledgeable and very willing to talk about wine, teach, and help folks select wines. I love coming for a glass or tasting, in addition to picking up a bottle at the shop. I recently gathered friends for a private blind tasting class at the Oakland location, too, and am so grateful to Josiah for facilitating a friendly, approachable class. We had wine enthusiasts and total beginners, all of whom learned a ton and discovered new wines to explore. I recommend Bay Grape to everyone, hope that other friends will consider classes here, and hope to bring my team from work for a similar experience. Such a fantastic place for the Oakland community!

Large and interesting selection of wine to drink there or take away for all budgets. The staff are really helpful, friendly and knowledgable and are always willing to give good recommendations. If you’re sitting in, the atmosphere is really cosy and welcoming. Would definitely recommend!

Moved away, visited for 2 days, thrilled to return and see Bay Grape thriving! Like coming home. A flight or a glass or tips on what to bring home, such a solid community of wine lovers. Great humans, so low key but somehow out-of-their-way friendly. So much love!

One of my favorite wine shops in the bay area. Excellent wine buying/tasting experience. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about local wines and festivals around the bay area. I don’t know anything about wine making or choosing my wine but i felt welcome in this space and ended up having one of the most memorable moments here after tasting a great selection the dude recommended.

Really delightful wine shop. We went after having dinner at Mama and we were so glad to have stumbled upon this gem and have returned since then! The employees truly love wine and walking you through their favorites in the store. You can also pop open a bottle for low corkage, enjoy at bar, and take any unfinished wine home with you! They have a great range and a ton of affordable wines. All the wines are super interesting and include a lot of natural & carbonic wines from all over the world. If you enjoy drinking wine (whether you are an expert or not) recommend stopping at this store!

My one request: it would be awesome if mama could provide a vegan food option along side the meatball sub. Would love to chow on mama food while drinking bay grape wine.

Gotta love a bottle shop with kind fun staff, an excellent selection of reasonably priced quality wines that lean towards natty but not exclusively, and a bubbly and fun space with great atmosphere. Check out their tasting classes. I learned a lot from just one afternoon class

One of my favorite local spots. The owners, (Stevie and Josiah) and all staff are extremely knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, approachable and fun. They are community-minded, learn their customers names and are breaking down barriers about thinking wine and beer knowledge are inaccessible to the general public. I love their wine club and Sunday School.

Customer service par excellence! I ordered a gift selection of wine for an out of state friend. I had friendly, knowledgeable phone help that made the process both fun and easy. Unfortunately, Fed Ex messed up on delivery, leaving it exposed to freezing temps without a signature. When I reported this back to BG, I've received immediate follow up and both concerned and helpful communication from the top. Though it was not their fault, BG is resending the wine and dealing with Fed Ex. So appreciate Stevie, Wei and all the amazing humans at BG. I look forward to stopping by their stores soon.

Stevie and Josiah and their whole team are doing right by their Oakland neighborhood, by winemakers, by women and BIPOC communities, and themselves. I so appreciate their transparency when talking about the challenges of running a small business during a pandemic while still holding to their principles of equity, inclusion, fair wages and environmental impact. engaging and knowledgeable folks staff this gem of a wine shop near Lake Merritt... eclectic selection of wines (as well as a very thought out cooler stocking a small array of amazing craft beers from around the globe) some esoteric, but all seemingly accessible and well priced for any budget. you can also enjoy your bottle on premise, and the space is welcoming enough you'll want to.

We were trying to find a place to kill a few hours and try some interesting wines. What a great place to stop in and enjoy a bottle of wine. Lots of interesting choices and very friendly staff. I great find!
