Man I had been looking for a good stylist/barber who wouldn’t charge me an arm and a leg for a disappointing haircut. I booked LeRoy hoping for the best and they went above and beyond I’m so grateful😭 thank you so much for my cut I really really love it and I’m super stoked I found a welcoming space. I’m coming back for sure, this is my spot from now on🩷 highly recommended!

I am so positively appreciative of LeRoy at United Grooming 🌈 I first went to them in December because my best pal in the Bay *highly* recommended 'em. Greatest choice I have ever made for my hair! I have shoulder-length curly/wavy hair, but had no idea how to take care of my curls... Then, LeRoy gave me the most positive, confidence-inducing haircut experience of my life (and I'm 31, so it's about damn time, y'all! 😂). They instantly made me feel taken care of & HEARD. Also, they gave me amazing haircare tips to help me make every day a good hair day -- WHAT?! Yes, gurl. And for me, yes curls! With LeRoy's artistry, empathy, and guidance, I know I can have healthy & beautiful hair 24/7 + 365, which is so empowering 🔥 I went in yesterday for a trim & layers (per their wise rec) and left feeling like a TEN ^.^ Lastly, as a gay woman, it is such a magical, peaceful feeling to be in a queer friendly shop with a queer barber 🐬💈🌈 Thank you United Grooming for being the dopest & thank you LeRoy for being you!

After nearly 2.5 years since I buzzed my hair down to a 1, I decided it was time to get my hair taken care of. I’m multiracial and I have combination hair type ranging from about 3A to 3C, and so I wanted to find someone who actually understood my hair. I have had hairstyles from short to long, and have visited barbershops and salons both. I was really excited and pleased to find this shop, which is a combination of both. Convenient if I wanted to switch it up again. Plus, it’s very queer-friendly!

Anyways, I decided to try Ariel who has hair that looks a bit like mine. She was very warm and made me feel comfortable right away. And she fixed me up wonderfully, and even gave me some helpful hair care advice, which I was so grateful for. My hair is so so happy and my curls are bouncing! I will be back! 10 out of 10! Highly recommend!!

I got the best beard trim OF MY LIFE here with the fabulous LeRoy. I looked amazing for my photoshoot the next day. My only regret is that I can’t get anywhere near those results at home!

I love united grooming! Very welcoming, very queer affirming environment when it's really hard to find a barbershop that is comfortable to get haircuts for queers. Also they always have incredible local artists' work on the walls.

I made an appointment with Roman. I was looking for someone who also identifies as some form of non-binary, the term I prefer is gender queer. I was able to make an appointment with them for the next day. I went in with long layers and I didn’t feel like how I was presenting matched with who I feel I am, but now I do. They talked with me about the style I want and I came prepared with pictures, but wasn’t sure how it would look on me. They took their time and tried a started the fade part a little lower to make sure they didn’t take too much off. I decided I wanted it to be higher and they happily made that change. We talked about our shared experiences being outside the binary and how our experiences differed. The entire experience was validating and I think everyone who identities as any flavor of queer should go to United Grooming. My appointment was only supposed to be an hour, but Roman spent over 1.5 hours making sure I felt good about the cut and style. I’m sticking with Roman and they have a good amount of others barbers/stylists to choose from. It feels like a queer space and that feels really comfortable and welcoming to me. Anyone is welcome here, you don’t have to be queer, but if you are I think you’ll feel especially comfortable here. It’s super easy to book an appointment online and you can read a bit about all the stylists and book an appointment with the person you connect most with.

I went to Leroy, who was able to correct a really bad haircut from a different barbershop in LA. I spent the last 5 years getting my specific cut in Brooklyn, so it's always difficult when switching Coasts. Especially because my haircut requires a high level of barber skill, combined with the fact that I have finer hair. Symmetry is really important.

Leroy provided their expertise and suggestions, while still listening to my point of view. Felt like an honest and fluid collaboration and so grateful to find a Barber who has a great rapport and level of skill to match.

I got a haircut from Jay recently who gave me a great fade and cut. This was my first time getting a haircut by him and he made sure multiple times to confirm that the cut was what I wanted, which was greatly appreciated. Great barber with great communication!!! Will be back.

Something about this place feels different, sometimes I go to barber shops and you can feel some tension going on. Not sure how to describe it but the shop felt like a family, but great environment! Anyways In terms of cuts, 10/10 would recommend with Leroy!

I had a great experience here with Wes! I just got my first short haircut a few months ago and didn't really know what to ask for to get the right cut. Wes was very kind and patient and helped me figure what style would be most affirming for me. I definitely suggest Wes and United Grooming in general for trans/nb folks looking for a great haircut in an affirming space.

I've been to quite a few barbers & salons in the area, and United Grooming is truly the best. I get my hair cut by Julie, and every time I come in for a trim the other barbers recognize me, ask how I'm doing, and are genuinely caring. Not only do I feel like I'm part of the community here, but the quality of cuts are outstanding. I've actually had my hair cut by a few of their barbers over the years and I've always been happy with the result. Highly recommend!

just got my hair done today by H, couldn't be happier with it!! they were super friendly and cool, not only that but they did SUCH a good job with my mullet and it was literally exactly what i was looking for :-) i'll definitely be coming back in the future to get it touched up!

Excellent! Britany has been cutting, coloring, and stylizing my hair for many years and I couldn't ask for a more incredible hair stylist. She always takes the time to talk to me about what I am hoping to have done during my visit, is patient and welcoming, and knows my hair even better than I do. She is very knowledgeable about hair coloring techniques - from bayalage highlights, to rose gold hair, to helping me recover from a bad bleaching experience when I first started working with her many years ago, I am so grateful to have Britany as my hair stylist. I am always counting down the days to my visits with Britany at United Grooming and look forward to continuing to have her help me reach my hair goals for many more years to come.

I cannot express how amazing United Grooming is and how just truly myself I feel after getting this cut. I would never post a picture of myself but I just could not be happier with it. Kay is truly a star and Julie was amazing. I can’t wait to come back whenever I can and refer all my friends and family here. Thank you United Grooming for making me feel seen and validated. You all are the best!

This is an amazing place. It is a community oriented where everyone is welcome and everyone feels welcome. Julie and her team are respectful and inclusive. Julie is very skilled at cutting my hair. When I say short, she cuts it short. When I went to other places in the past, they always questioned me about if I was sure I wanted to go that short or not. She gets it and it makes me feel accepted for who I am. The shop is also super clean and they are taking all of the precautions for COVID-19. I feel very safe getting my haircut there. This is my go to place for getting a haircut.

After 4 years of mediocre cuts at the usual haunts and frantic googling for "female barber," I finally found out about Julie, but she wasn't taking new clients. After another 6 months, she opened her awesome shop in Jack London and I scored a year of top-notch haircuts in a comfortable, welcoming space. I had to check out the new spot on Grand Avenue, and it's as awesome as the flagship - great people, great vibe, great haircuts! They're taking safety seriously, so if you're long overdue for grooming - go check them out!!

I had been looking for a welcoming babershop to queer and trans people and then I found United Grooming! I've been having my haircut with Jay for a few months and I hella recommend Jay, they're an excellent barber! They really listen to the details of my requests when I want to try out new haircuts. Besides the professionalism, Jay has a warm presence that makes you feel welcomed. So overall, always a great experience!

We’ve seen both Jay and Tony on multiple occasions and they are extraordinary. I take my 10 year old and it’s aces every time. We are super grateful for not just their amazing haircuts, but the inclusive, lovely atmosphere. Not to mention, the Grand location is so vibey and centrally located. 12/10 recommend.
