KARL the store

I’m not exaggerating when I say this is my favorite shop in the bay area. The inventory is perfectly curated, and I’ve left with a bag full of art, jewelry and fragrances both times I’ve gone.
The owner has a personal connection and story for every single item, which makes shopping here and bringing these items home feel very special.
The pictured artist is Andrea Coish - check her out! (I bought both of these paintings so don’t expect to find these particular ones in the store, but there are many more where they came from)

Great store with cool stuff, friendly staff, and excellent customer service. Tellason dealer, carries their jeans, coats, hats, etc. They didn't have the exact item/size I wanted so they ordered it for me, and they had it in stock by that very same afternoon, unreal!

This is a very special place not to be missed on your next trip to Sausalito. Dennis, the owner is a gem with excellent,eclectic taste and is a wealth of information on the artisans he buys from. Going into his store is a special treat and one should not pass it by. Its right next to a the best Equator coffee shop in Marin,full kitchen and much much more than coffee and pastries. Enjoy a family brunch then wonder in and meet Dennis, oh, and his wife makes homemade chicken pot pies as well as blueberry,peach and other seasonal pies that make for wonderful dinners or hosting gifts.

Smelled a wonderful smell on a lady and when I asked her about it, she said it was called 11:11 from land and Skye and sent me to Karl the store to get it. Best smell in the world. The owner was so fun to talk to. Ask him to tell you the origin story of the store name.

Karl is the perfect example why brick and mortar retail has a bright future. You come to Karl for plenty of reasons; first to meet Denis the owner and operator; he welcomes you with a warm big smile. Then you come for the experience: each product in the store has a soul and a story from the leather funky piggy banks handmade by an 85 year old local man, the Brazilian desk which is a vanity in disguise or the Sydney Hale Co candles, made in Virginia for which the company give 10% of their proceeds to dog rescue: I bought 3 of those; they smell amazing. I think my favorite is Juniper coastal. Whatever you buy there, is unique. The perfect place to find a present in which you put a little bit of your soul and that the recipient will treasure for a long time.

If you’re in Sausalito this store is a MUST SEE. Not only is the store’s Owner/Operator the NICEST man In town, he curates the store with items that have a history and that will speak to your personal sensibilities. He has everything from the best smelling candles I’ve ever smelled, original 1930s leather jackets, old collector playboy magazines, and SO MUCH MORE. You have to go in and let Dennis make your day, you will regret not going!

Sigh....where do I begin?!?! I was planning on going into the city (SF) but wanted to take a short detour and scenic route through Sausalito. As I'm driving, I see "KARL the store" and immediately pulled over. It looked so cute, and I just wanted to have a brief experience based on the store facade. Little did I know I would end up spending more than I expected on items that I love. These items each had a story behind it and even though I'm an Amazon Prime member, it's stores like these that make me appreciate and enjoy the in-person shopping experience. Dennis, the owner, was NOT pushy at all and had a backstory for each item I was interested in, and items that I didn't know I would be interested in. He is a friendly gentleman that didn't talk my ear off, had the perfect balance of explaining where certain items are from and leaving us be to enjoy the store. My experience in this store went beyond my expectations and I'm glad I pulled over and found a parking spot 1 min. away. (I couldn't pull over in time to park in the private lot he has in front of the store. I didn't want to leave, but I had to, before I purchased every single item. I will for sure be coming back. I'm not saying "i'll be coming back" to get people to go there, but this is for real. I really hope I don't go back soon, because I know that I will just continue to buy and buy and buy!
