Yesteryear Comics

This is a prefect place to go if you know what you're looking for. As other reviews state, it is cramped with tons of inventory so perusing is a little hard. I leave my purse in the car so I won't bump into things. However, Michael knows where his inventory is. This is the only store I have been able to ask for a specific artist. I asked if he knew if he had Peach Momoko and Rose Besch covers and Michael actually pulled out like 100 different covers for me. I was very impressed.

5 stars for selection of recent comics and Funko pops/action figures. That said, the store is very cramped with piles of comics EVERYWHERE.
The plus side is the owner is very knowledgeable and knows where everything is, if he has it, so just ask. I asked about a recent back issue and he went right to a pile of comics and extracted it got me. Same thing with a Pop I was looking for.
Good prices too, including a discount on recent back issues from the past few months.

I ordered a comic from this shop as it was the closest one to me that had it, 2 states away mind you. Wrapped up perfectly to avoid any damages and was in pristine condition. I live out of state, and I highly recommend this store just from this one experience. If I'm ever in SD I will be stopping by!

Been coming here since year 1 and have to say it's the best comic book store in the county. Mike is a 1 man show and knows his $h!*. If you haven't been here your missing out and needs to plan too.

Great shop. Stopped in while on vacation, huge inventory, owner was helpful finding issues I was looking for. Lots of fun digging through new and recent back issues too.

They have more stuff on hand than you can probably afford to spend in one trip. They are literally bursting at the seams with merch! They'll also get you what you need as they did for me with this box set that only 1000 exist!

Massive amount of comics in house. Anything you might be looking for just ask the owner. He has a memory of the store like it was the back of his hands. Straight facts. If not he will guide you to the proper channels.

An Amazing Experience with Yesteryear Comics and Michael !! Very friendly, super knowledgeable and helpful. This is how I remember comic book stores being! I'm really thankful that they seem to remember that too. I'm really impressed that he gives discounts on hardcovers and comics. I called ahead to ask if they had a book in stock and was more than happy to check. When Michael came back on the phone, he told me he had it, the price and that he would be happy to hold it for me at the counter. (It seems if you call "other" comic book stores, calling them is an inconvenience and asking for a price is... dare I say, criminal). Anyway, after having such a great customer service on the phone, I decided to take the drive today, instead of waiting until tomorrow. My book was waiting at the counter. Great conversations with other comic book collectors were had. This place is definitely my new local comic book store!! Thanks again !!

Three years of weekly visits later, and my opinion of this store hasn't changed. If you want to get into comics, you could do much worse than to visit Yesteryear Comics. My original review from three years ago is below.

The proprietor (Mike) is friendly, thoughtful, and knowledgeable. I come here every week and the store always has everything I want. There have even been times that Mike held comics for me when the comics I normally buy were selling out fast, even though I didn't formally make a pull list. This place is great.

Mike the owner is very knowledgeable, friendly and very helpful. I live in the south bay and travel up to his store because he’s got a nice, clean store, has a good selection of product and has great customer service. Plus he sells lots of Funko Pops! I’ve been collecting comics for years and this store by far is one of the best in San Diego.

An excellent comic shop that has set the bar for me. Mike is super knowledgeable in the comic business and does as much as is possible to take care of his clientele. Pull lists are by Previews Orders, which I find is helpful as a customer as well as for him running the store. He carries cards, figures, Funko, models, D&D guides, posters, shirts, and has a running 30% on trade paperbacks.

I've been in this store only a couple of times and my impression is that while the store is one of the newer locations in San Diego, the store's owner, Michael is not new to the comic book selling business. He is very nice, very friendly, extremely knowledgeable. He has also passed along smart advice to me in terms of which books are smart investments, which aren't, and understanding the difference between a 9.0 and 9.8 NM. I appreciated that immensely, particularly since my wife and I are building a serious collection, and we can only grab so many titles/month. I will undoubtedly be visiting his store again from time to time. Great place to check out if you're already in the area and Southern California Comics (which is on the same street, roughly a mile west of Yesteryear) doesn't have what you are looking for.

Favorite place to go to for my Wednesday comics. They get their own variants for popular DC comics, and the selection of variants is always great. The owner is super friendly and he always works his own store. He also gives great discounts on paperbacks, omnibuses and last months comics.

Start your pull here. Only shop in area that offers pull discounts. The owner is a 1 man army that is efficient, very helpful, knows about comics and friendly to all his customers. Compared to other shops, he always has current back issues. Has widest selection of blank variants that I've seen in any comic shop in the country. Trades are discounted too. This is indeed the best comic shop in San Diego.

This is my go to comic store. Always a wide selection of new release books. The staff is knowledgeable and always willing to help. Hands down the best in San Diego.

The first time I visited Yesteryear Comics I brought my 4 year old son with me. I wanted to share the experience of comics, reading, super heroes, etc. that I loved with him. I also wanted to see how he would be received by the store owner, as I planned on bringing my son with me regularly to a local shop we felt comfortable and welcomed in. The owner, Mike, was great from the beginning. I asked if he had any comic suggestions that would be appropriate for my young son, to which he showed us a variety of titles including Spider-Man, Batman, and the Avengers. My son loved them all and we walked out with all 3 titles that day.

That was two years ago, we are now regulars at Yesteryear Comics. I have a pull list some 20? titles long and can usually be found there at 9am Wednesday mornings for new comic book day. I could go on about how Mike discounts brand new books, brings in artists and writers for signings, has some amazing Yesteryear variant covers, has yearly events for regulars to show his appreciation. But the best part is now my son is 6 years old and has had a great experience growing up in comics. Our Sunday tradition together is to head to Coffee Bean, get a drink, then off to Yesteryear to look around and buy a comic or of Funko Pop! figure together. My son knows Mike by name and Mike knows my son's name, his love for Lego's and Star Wars and we have a good time.

If you are looking for a local comic book store in San Diego, then coming to Yesteryear is a must.
