Great look at 19th Century transportation technology. You can also enjoy the bike trail. A little distance south on the trail you can also see a lock that has not been restored. There are several historical markers to explain what your looking at. The remains of the original canal can clearly be see in many places alongside the trail.

Great place for a quiet walk, run or just ride your bike or scooter. Walk a mile or walk 10. The trail is safe and clean. They even have a public bathroom at this part of the trail.

Great walking, running, biking path... except when there are a few who think it's ok to let their kids on scooters & bikes go wild... or folks who talk out loud on their cell phones... or owners who don't pick up after their dogs! So go early to avoid the crowds! The path and woods are well kept, easy for a nice stroll, long enough for a good outing! Benches located along the way.

This is a park that is both beautiful and historically significant. There is a working lock from the 19th century Farmington canal, and it is right next to the linear park. It also has a small museum and a picnic area.

Great parking area along the Farmington canal trail. About 16 miles from New Haven on the trail.

Great walking or bicycling here. Also known as the Farmington Canal. Very scenic and relaxing with the sounds of the birds and the streams that run along the path. Can walk for miles on a beautiful day.

A nice historical park with naturally flowing streams on either side of the walk/bike path, a pleasant walk to do alone or with a friend. Very pet friendly, I would recommend this path between mid spring and early fall, as it is surrounded by foliage and the walk is best experienced when the leaves are in bloom or in color changing of the fall

This is a great piece of history that has been restored/preserved. It has heavy locks gates that can be opened and closed by hand. It has a paved trail that runs alongside the lock as well. It is great for history buffs or just people who want to do a nature walk. It is peaceful and beautiful.

20 mile round trip to another New Haven (S) or Southington (N) cycling from car lot. Off road. Excellent. North, there are bars/ restaurants on route. South just one on route but New Haven has amenities.

Very nice place to walk! Especially if it has been raining and you don't want to deal with a muddy trail.

The rail trail is a great place to go year round. The lock is such a great place of history to preserve for everyone. It really is interesting to see how we used to just get from place to place. The locks on the erie canal are the same just bigger.

The museum itself is very quite and set off the trail. The lock itself had a bunch of baby turtles in it, and my daughter and I even spotted a tiny fish.

One of the best walking trails I've come across. Well kept, but would be nice if there was more wildlife.

Lock 12 is the only surviving lock of the 28 constructed for the Farmington Canal (1822-1848). An important piece of our history and we'll worth the visit.
