Szechuan House

I legitimately ran to leave this review. THIS PLACE IS 🔥. Was in town for work and this spot was down the street, I heard about it before coming and was excited to see how it held up to my favorite hometown restaurant…honestly, blew it out of the water which is crazy for me to say. This place is absolutely on point and would highly recommend it. *Not pictured was the General Tso’s Chicken and Chicken Fried Rice which were also amazing.

This is currently my favorite place to eat and specifically chicken with chili peppers is my favorite thing to eat in Iowa city. The dumplings are really good here as well. I like to dine in there. But delivery is quick and no extra charge. I would highly recommend this place.

By far the most authentic szechuan food we have had in the Midwest! We specifically stop in Iowa city when driving from Florida to Minnesota for this restaurant.

Honestly delicious. Gorgeous plates and delightful flavors. Very good! Get the Fish Filet with Golden Pepper. And scream
with joy.

Szechuan House has been a family favorite of ours for years. We've had good experiences both dining in and getting take out. We graviate to the more authentic Chinese dishes like lamb with cummin, dan dan noodles, and vermicelli noodles with curry. The "American" Chinese dishes like sesame chicken are also quite tasty. While Szechaun House is not the cheapest compared to others, it is the best-tasting Chinese food in Iowa City area by far.

As local Chinese, both my husband and I think its food is authentic and delicious, comparable with some local restaurant in Szechuan and Hunan. It is actually no way to complain when finding such a restaurant in central Iowa that could help my stomach relieve a bit！

Absolutely beautiful restaurant and smells amazing! Their entire menu is full of vibrant and authentic traditional Chinese dishes I was very impressed. Food presentation was great and service was quick and very professional. I’d give 10 stars if I could.

very vegan friendly! Many veggies, rice and noddles dishes can be made vegan by asking no meat and egg or already come as vegan. All the dishes i order in the picture are vegan.

Authentic Szechuan flavor cuisine! The Best!!

Stopped in Iowa city on the way to a wedding and was not expecting such good szechuanese food to be found here! Got the appetizer pork in garlic sauce, mapo tofu, braised pork, and beef chow fun. Everything was done so well and honestly even better than some szechuanese places in more Asian dense areas. Portion sizes are more on the delicate side.

Wow, this food seriously exceeded my expectations. I had the Szechuan shrimp entree and the Takoyaki appetizer. The Szechuan is a cut above any other Chinese restaurants in town, owing to the higher-grade ingredients and perfect execution. First time trying takoyaki and I was really impressed - really a delicacy. If you haven't tried this place, disregard the dated, mixed reviews, and stop by!

I love spicy food and this is always a go to place for my celebrations in Iowa City. I recommend the spicy crispy chicken to everyone! So so good! Will always take people here every time I get a chance!

Definitely the best Chinese food in town. Hot pot is something you’d want to try out. They have a lot of options for both spicy and non-spicy dishes.

A modern atmosphere and a good selection of authentic Chinese dishes. The staff are great. I think this is the only authentic Chinese restaurant in the Iowa City area. I particularly like their dry spicy sautéed intestine, as well as the lion head meatballs.

I had an amazing experience at Szechuan House! The cuisine was absolutely delicious and the service was exceptional. The picture attached of our meal has no filter and tasted just as good as it looks. Highly recommend this restaurant!

I travel to Iowa city and use google to search a Chinese restaurant. Google never disappointed me because this place is surprisingly good. I ordered a pot and the taste is amazing —— it’s a real Chinese spicy food. Then I decided to order a spicy chicken to go. Service is good and very spacious.
