This is the first time I've sat down for a meal here. I've been to this La Mie location twice before, but just got pastries to go. The line was kind of confusing on a busy Sunday morning. There were a bunch of people waiting for to-go orders so that made it more difficult to discern where to join the queue. If the line is long then you inevitably land in front of the pastry counter where you can choose your own croissants, tarts, etc. to be wrapped up before you wait in the same line to pay. Or, you can forgo the pastries and just order hot food at the main counter. You can also pick up some take-and-bakes along with other prepared foods.

We decided to dine-in so they assigned us a table number. The food came out quickly! My Quiche Florentine was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!! My boyfriend got a Southwestern Scramble that he also enjoyed. The coffee is decent here and the traditional pastries are always good. The macarons are hit or miss. But, the rest, is wonderful!

I was super surprised that the Quiche & Pain chocolate had exactly the same taste as a bakery from my original country 🇫🇷
So if someone wants to have a French Bakery experience in Iowa, it’s definitely the place to go!

Wonderful food but slightly crowded. There is a reason this place is so busy. Highly recommend the turkey club with extra avocado. Food is actually very low priced for the high quality. Staff are rushing to keep up with the large lines and people walking out with several boxes of the delicious pastries. Don't miss the chance to enjoy this little gems exquisite food. Come early though cause it goes fast.

Best place for breakfast brunch. We loved to hang around and enjoyed our food. Place really has great vibe and service is very quick even though its very busy place. We tried their Scone, Omelettes, Sandwiches, Scrambled eggs and many other dishes over last few visits. And every time experience was great, food tasted yum!

Everything is fresh. The only thing is that they give a limit of time to finish your meals.

We love this bakery! Every time we stop in town we grab lunch here. Great food. Great service! If you are in a hurry you can do grab and go which we have done before and taken to a park! Love the cheesecakes too. You can’t go wrong!

Very nice place for pastries, baked goods, and coffee. Compared to other cities I’ve been to the prices are very fair, great quality of food and service. A popular spot, a must visit spot if your in town looking for a brunch or meeting with friends.
I tried the salmon tartine as it was highly recommended. Was impressed and satisfied. Came with half of a Large avocado as well.

I've had a lot of pastries, and a lot of croissants, all over the world and in France, and man, La Mie is fantastic. Get there early so you can get your pick from the vast table of fresh pastries, from various fruit danishes, to croissants (plain, chocolate, cheese and spinach, and more), and lots of others. The pastry is flakey and cracks perfectly as you might, filling your mouth with rich buttery layers. Truly great, wish I could have some every day. Great pricing too.

Best bakery in Des Moines. Incredibly well made pastries, desserts, breads, and sandwiches. I've liked everything on the menu so far.

Everything seems to be baked fresh the same day. Be prepared to arrive early because most of the fresh bread is sold out by mid-morning.

Decent amount of both indoor and outdoor seating. Friendly staff. Plenty of parking around the back. Be prepared to wait in line for 5-10mins on a Saturday morning at the register.

Hmm... can't believe I haven't reviewed La Mie yet... hands down the best bakery in Des Moines. My favorite item is the ham and cheese croissant. There always seems to be a line at the register and there never seems to be enough tables during weekend brunch. However, patience will pay off as stuffing one's face with La Mie pastries will make every bit of cheating during cheat day worth it. Parking can be difficult, so be sure to look for parking in both the front and rear lots.

Everyone knows that Des Moines is the Paris of the Midwest and when you’re in the midwestern Paris, finding a good croissant is of the upmost importance. La Mie delivers on that. The ham & cheese croissant is delicious. Additionally, they have a great, clean bathroom to snap a quick pic for the gram. Next stop…whatever the Des Moines equivalent of the Eiffel Tower is.

Best authentic place for French pastries and coffee in Des Moines! They have plenty of other food too - bread, macarons, sandwiches, cake, breakfast items, etc. Unfortunately the sizes of their drinks have decreased a little bit from the last time I was there but the quality is still amazing. Pastries are without fail, delicious!

Biggest negatives for eating here are parking and seating. The small parking lot is always full so sometimes you may need to find street parking in the surrounding neighborhood. The seating is also not great. Due to their limited space issue inside, they now assign seating after you've ordered and have signs posted everywhere asking that you please limit your time at a table to 45 minutes. Positive for this place is that they make it very easy to take stuff to-go.

All this to say, this is still my favorite Saturday brunch place in Des Moines! It's great for couples, smaller groups, and those who want fantastic pastries to go.

Excellent. One of the best I’ve been to. Highly recommended. The omelettes are to die for, very authentic! The coffee is great too, they also know how to make a great flat white!

What a delightful and delicious eatery. Every time I travel I'm always looking for a change of pace and La Mie did not disappoint! Delicious pastries, selection of breads and rolls, the dessert cooler had me in a trance and yup..... I couldn't resist. My fiance had the smoked salmon omlet, myself omelet, had the sausage and mushroom omelet. We both grabbed a sandwich for lunch later and I would nearly kill for another chicken salad croissant. Don't miss this one or you'll regret it.

I’m from KC and went here with my wife while we were visiting. OH MY - this place is great. I got a breakfast sandwich an oat milk honey latte and a few bakery items. Everything was delicious. Someone who seemed liked the owner was very present and active visiting tables, answering questions, and bringing out food. Overall a really great experience on multiple levels.
