St. Kilda Cafe & Bakery

I have been here several times recently for brunch. This place knows what they are doing and they are really good at it: the atmosphere, the decor, the food, the service. The lattes here are the best in the area, hands down. Even the cups and saucers are beautiful and add to my enjoyment of the coffee drinks. I want the exact cups for my own home. The seasonal latte flavors are creative and never overly sweet. I do love a pumpkin spice latte, and St. Kilda has the best. I was interested in a seasonal mocha and was hesitant to order it for fear it would be too sweet, but the server told me more about it so I decided to try it. It was the best mocha I’ve ever had with the perfect balance of flavors and just the right amount of sweetness. Everything that’s a part of the Big Aussie Breakfast is prepared to perfection: thick cut bacon, delicious blistered roasted tomatoes, perfectly crispy house-made bread. Even the gluten-free bread is excellent. Last week my boyfriend got a hashbrown on the side and it was the best hashbrown I’ve ever had - a lovely soft texture on the inside and perfectly crispy all the way around on the outside. The last 3 times I’ve eaten there, we’ve had the same server. I love her! Very friendly, relatable, and a bit quirky in the best possible way. After our last visit, I decided St. Kilda in Valley Junction is my favorite place for brunch.

We had the Spanish latte, Blackberry Vanilla Latte, French toast and chocolate croissant. All was delicious! Love the chill, upscale environment. Definitely lived up to the hype!

Sad we live on the east coast & can’t go here all the time! The food was to die for. The staff were beyond amazing. We got the breakfast tacos & the salmon, favorite meal of our trip. 1000% recommend for your trip to Des Moines.

Australian Cafe & bakery serving delicious food, coffees, smoothies, and drinks. There is street parking all around and there is table service. The ambiant atmosphere is a good mix of chic and industrial.

Such a unique modern hip cafe! I loved how worldly the menu was.
The atmosphere was really nice, presentation of food was simple, and the place was clean.
It was easy to find and when we got inside the restaurant was super busy, but they still accommodated quickly. I enjoyed going with my family. Points for having a changing table in the bathroom!
We ordered a hot chocolate, chai tea, veggie sandwich, and I forgot the name of what my boyfriend got (sorry).

Amazing food. Never dissapoints. The prices are kinda too high tho. I ate a $16 sandwich lol
And my bf’s favourite thing to get here everytime is the breakfast tacos! They are out of this world. He likes to say “these would be Gordon Ramsay approved”

Breakfast tacos are amazing, and biscuits and gravy are unique, unlike others and very good. I can't wait to go back for more.

Top-tier. My partner and I stopped by around 0900 on a Sunday morning without a booking. As an American who has spent weeks in Australia, I was excited to go to an Aussie café and bakery. The manager - maybe owner too - is from Melbourne and was bussing tables, making drinks, serving food, cracking jokes, and helping his staff and running the show.

The food was top-notch. Not pictured? An airy chocolate croissant. Also not pictured was a blueberry muffin since food took just a tad bit long. But it was no problem, we were enjoying our flat white and mocha.

If you're in Des Moines, you need to stop by St. Kilda. You will not be disappointed.

Great food! I've been here twice now from out of town. Good atmosphere only "issue" I have is that placement of seats and available seats makes it to wear you sitting fairly close to other tables.

It was a great experience dining at St. Kilda. Food is well prepared and the dishes were well crafted. Hospitality is warm and comfort. Servers are nice and responsive. Highly recommended for branch, casual coffee hangout, and BFF gatherings.

AMAZING FOOD! The Smashed Peas & Eggs is the best breakfast dish I have ever had. We also loved The Saint Breakfast Sandwich and the Berry Fizz drink. Atmosphere, service, and location are great, as well!

I did not stay and eat a full breakfast here, I just grabbed a croissant and a coffee, but the place is very nicely decorated, the atmosphere is nice. The staff was friendly. I got the very last croissant and it is the BEST one I've ever had!!
Not to mention prices were very reasonable. I was very pleased.
Only suggestion I would have, would be....my latte could have been hotter. Still 5 Stars.

I can't say enough about this place!! This restaurant far exceeds many other restaurants in the Des Moines area and sets the bar pretttyyy high. One of the best restaurants I've ever been to. The ambiance is like a high end chic hipster vibe. We made a reservation for 10am on a Saturday and our table was ready 5 mins before.

The servers wait ALL tables which is amazing - if you need anything you can grab anyone and not have to find your waiter. They were attentive and always made sure our waters were full and we had everything we need without being over the top.

I accidentally spilled my drink and they replaced it for free, and immediately helped clean up with the best disposition.

Their food was delicious (salmon/poached eggs), their cranberry mimosa was super cute and also delicious, and their chai latte was stunningly made and, again, delicious 👌 Will be back again and again!

Amazing way to celebrate Sunday with an brilliant friend & co-worker! We had a great conversation over breakfast & the service was excellent! We weren't rushed & ate our breakfast in peace. My food was sweet & filling & my friends was savory. Thank you for making our trip to Des Moines end with a great breakfast! We appreciate you!

Amazing food, beautiful ambience, good prices and warm service. I went w a group of friends, all of us found something delicious to have for breakfast. I had a sort of lamb pastry, it was fabulous. Very savory and well crafted flavors. We shared a caramel apple french toast, it was also very good. My latte was just on point and my friends also enjoyed their dishes.

We are from Kansas City but we will definitely return when we visit Des Moines. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐👌🏻

Another day at St. Kilda and they killed it once again!! We were here yesterday and they also were amazing, our servers have been kind and knowledgeable! Brunch today was delicious and nicely plated 10 out of 10 recommend coming here for any meal!

Delicious food - devoured the cheddar chive biscuit sandwich. The chocolate croissant and pumpkin scone were also so yummy. I enjoyed the vanilla latte more than the chai latte. Fantastic service!

Not to busy on weekdays during breakfast. Made a 10 am appointment and almost no one was there. I got the breakfast sandwich and it was amazing! Definitely will get it again. My friend got the breakfast tacos and she loved them as well. Also tried both the chai tea and matcha latte and would recommend those as well.

Stopped in for lunch while in town for business. Service was polite and prompt from beginning to end.

Having read so many positive reviews of the avocado toast, I had to try it, and I was definitely not disappointed. Some might want the bacon a little more done, but personally I don't want it super crunchy. The iced coffee was cool and refreshing on a 90° day, and not too bitter even without milk or cream.

I will say it's not a cheap lunch spot, but I think the ingredients, preparation and presentation justify the price.
