ChaCha’s Hiland Bakery

I went in today and tried their blueberry donut cheesecake. Oh my god it was delicious! The donut glaze on top was a nice touch. A nice crust to cheesecake ratio. I’ve been told by my friends this place is good, but now I can say so for myself. The employees were nice and friendly. Super helpful and ready to serve. The place is cute and welcoming.

The new owners, Ed and Elizabeth (aka Cha Cha) are delightful and have so many great plans to make this a must-visit in the Highland Park neighborhood. Great donuts, pastries, and savory items too! They have been really accommodating with me planning a private event in their space too.

I ordered a custom cake for my husband’s military retirement party and they knocked it out of the park. The design was great (military themed) and it tasted delicious. We did a 1/2 chocolate and 1/2 vanilla. We received a lot of comments about how good it tasted and we will be ordering again for future events! Thank you!

I bought a king cake for Mardi gras this year. The cake was delicious. I was a little bummed though cause they said the baby was in the cake but we never found one.

I have been so happy with the updates to the bakery since the new owners took over. The donuts have been fantastic. The case is full of options daily. There’s a little something for everyone. Most recently, my mother got a cake for my birthday. The cake was perfectly moist, with rich chocolate ganache and icing. I also really appreciate the notecard that came with the cake to remind us how to store it properly and continue to be tasty while we work through the very generous amount of the smallest cake.

Skip Dunkin and get some quality donuts from a landmark Des Moines bakery! Cannot recommend this enough since the new ownership “Cha Cha’s” took over this summer! Everything is so much fresher and the service impeccable! They’ve definitely breathed some fresh air into the place while bringing love back into the original recipes we all remember and crave from Hiland Bakery! Love how they are already getting involved in the local community too! P.S. if you haven’t tried a breakfast flip from here, get one immediately! The eggs accompanied with your choice of veggies or meat and cheese and wrapped in this semi sweet fluffy bread, sooo good!

I was craving pastries today so my boyfriend took me to Hiland Bakery. This place did not disappoint! I have this thing about American pastries being way too sweet but none of the 4 things I tried here were overwhelming. The champagne doughnut with the pink frosting came pretty close but the bread itself was not over-sweetened and the cream in the middle was light and helped balance the whole thing. We got a box of day-old pastries and they were still phenomenal. I will definitely remember to come here the next time I get a random sweet tooth!

More than nostalgia! In town for Christmas and stopped by for the first time in 25 years - I ate best crème-filled donut I’ve ever had…and I eat donuts in every city I travel. This donut was different - light flaky, and full of crème!

I took a cookie decorating class last night and it was so fun! The sugar cookies were delicious and the owner was a great teacher. I'm no artist, but the instruction was easy to follow! I will be back for more classes and to stop in and have the London Fog that I've heard so much about. Check this place out, you won't be disappointed.

Had the best time at a cookie workshop last night! I learned a lot and the cookies are delicious. Elizabeth and Ed were super friendly, such a fun space! I’ll definitely be a returning customer!

We love the cookie decorating classes! The sugar cookies are delicious and ChaCha is a great teacher. Fun times and you leave with a tasty treat you can share or keep all for yourself.

They have the best carrot cake cupcakes. And delicious, old school style, airy and light French cruller donuts…I just wish they were stocked more because I frequently get there late and they are already sold out for the day!

Delicious bakery with an interesting staff. Didn't think much when we came in and left after having a wonderful conversation with the staff. You will be surprised at the well priced pastries and artistic style designs. Highly reccomend for the sugar fiends like me. Also a good thc drink never hurts 😋

This is the cutest neighborhood bakery. The owners and staff are very friendly and the service is top notch. The donuts are fabulous and the quiche is the best I’ve ever had. Also give the brownies and cookies a try. Really no bad choices here!

My daughter and I love this place! It's out of our way in the mornings but so worth it. They have a variety of donuts, pastries, cakes, cookies, breakfast items and coffee drinks. We love the décor and the local artists paintings that hang inside. The staff is always friendly.

A coworker brought in donuts, and they were perfect for a Friday morning! They were light, fluffy and delicious! I will definitely get some in the future for my family.

Best bakery ever! I’ve done 2 of the recent cookie classes, and have had so much fun. Not to mention the donuts, cookies, cheesecake, coffee drinks, breakfast/lunch options. I can’t wait to see what else the fabulous new owners continue to bring to the table. Haven’t been disappointed in a single thing my family or I have tried (and that’s nearly everything haha)

We’ve been going to some form of this bakery since I was a kid and my parents got their wedding cake here in the 70’s. The bakery is serving a delicious combination of classic recipes from the past and new, scrumptious treats to enjoy for years to come. The cookies are amazing and taste just like my childhood. Doughnuts? Top notch! Dinner rolls? Amazing feats of carbs! Petit Fours? Small cakes, HUGE flavor!!!!The best around town, hands down, but also two thumbs up!
