Raccoon Forks Trading Company

This shop was undoubtedly one of the highlights of our three-day trip to Des Moines. As it turns out - confirmed by the very helpful, friendly lady at this antique store - most shops in town are closed on Sundays and Mondays. She, too, found this both odd and disappointing. That said, I’m glad we stumbled upon the Raccoon Forks Trading Company on our mostly fruitless search for anything interesting to do downtown on a Sunday.
I’m probably biased for my love of antique stores, but even still, it is objectively fun to visit. So much stuff to look at! I could easily kill a couple of hours browsing. Prices seemed fair - from larger furniture pieces to small trinkets and antique books. I wound up purchasing an early 1900s jewelry box for $25, which I’m very happy with.

I had such a good time browsing and finding a couple of nice beer glasses...so I brought my wife back to have an excellent lunch in their cafe...and left with a fantastic vintage sign. Will definitely shop here again! And, I heard that they are adding books!

Great place! Loved it. Bought an antique Plantation Desk via Ebay from them and drove 150 miles one way to pick it up. High quality antiques in a quaint old horse stable building in downtown Des Moines. Lots of other antique stores nearby and other shopping. Well worth the drive and the guys running the store were VERY NICE GOOD PEOPLE. Next time we will plan to spend a couple days in the area. Thanks for the hospitality!

We are in Des Moines for a family trip and love antiques. This place was a really cool surprise. We ate at the adjoining cafe “Railroad Bills” boxcar diner and loved it. Great breakfast and burgers and the potatoes were excellent. Vegan and gf options too!

Glad we found this gem! An historic Des Moines building with a fascinating story filled with a very nice selection of antique treasures. I found a rare piece of Des Moines history to take home and enjoy. Staff are very knowledgeable and clearly enjoy helping. Almost didn't want to leave a review so I could save this place for myself!

Very nice selection of interesting items, looking forward to eating at Railroad Bill's Dining Car. The building just feels so full of character, it makes everything there just seem to fit the space even if the item isn't really from the right era.

Coolest antique shop I have ever been to! Old building, lots of cool stuff, and the interior is just beautiful old wood from the 1800s. Definitely 10/10.

Things were expensive, but worth it if you're looking for some quality antique furniture. People working are nice and courteous. Nice place to just go look at things

It's like a treasure hunt through grandma's attic. Grab a bag a free popcorn on your way in. Watch where you step the floor is uneven. Clean bathroom. Nice people.
